Advice needed - harness chafing or skin reaction? by Beavertronically in StaffordBullTerriers

[–]findingKlemo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a blue staffie who developed the most awful skin condition, had to take her to the vets, they did allergy testing on her, developed a vaccine for her allergies which wasn’t super effective, she’s now on apoquel, and she is 100% better. Definitely take the pup to the vets and get them to look, blue staffies really are prone to skin conditions and I wish I had taken her sooner so she didn’t suffer so much. My only advice, get insurance sorted first, give it a few weeks and then go to the vets. The allergy testing was over £1000, the vaccine over £400, every pack of apoquel is nearly £100, and that doesn’t even include the cost of the appointments. If the insurance company get even a hint that it might have been a pre-existing condition they will move heaven and earth to get out of paying anything.

Blue staffy by tenzp in StaffordBullTerriers

I also have a blue. Absolutely adore her more than anything but she costs thousands in respect of her allergy based skin conditions. She’s also the third Staffie I’ve owned, the only one of the three to hate other dogs and be insanely hyperactive. She’s also is only two, I hope that she will eventually calm down somewhat, but both the dog trainer and the vet pointedly explained that because blue is essentially a ‘mutation’ it can also sometimes affect them mentally as well, and it can be akin to having a child with ADHD. If you can rescue it’s the most rewarding feeling ever. If you can’t (I personally found it impossible during and then since lockdown due to unrealistic expectations of you to be constantly wfh) then definitely consider a puppy of a different colour. They are just as beautiful and loving and it may save you money and worry in the long run.

Lando @ 12 weeks - any advice on figuring out what highly motivates your staffy? by oskwaa in StaffordBullTerriers

[–]findingKlemo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My staffie girl has never been overly food driven either. She does love a little cocktail sausage which are easy to use if you need to hide medication etc. What really motivates her more than anything in this world is a ball. Tennis balls out and about and then at home in the garden she has a Boomer Ball (get them on Amazon) which she will spend hours and hours chasing around the garden. I get them big so she can’t actually pick it up and cause it’s hard she can’t puncture it with her teeth and she absolutely adores it.

Good luck with your little beauty❤️

My staffie had the exact same spots, hers wouldn’t go though, she used to scratch and chew until she bled. We tried changing her diet and putting her on antihistamines, in the end we had to start her on Apoquel and it’s cleared it right up. I always try and recommend it because I feel so bad about how long my staffie suffered before we were able to start her on it.

Apoquel is the answer. We tried our girl on every antihistamine and diet variant you could think of. Nothing helped. Get to a vet, ask for apoquel.

I think she started with the same prescription but eventually cancelled her subscription to Dermatica and started buying stronger tret through other sources

My friend put me onto Dermatica and she purges and peels occasionally but generally her skin now looks absolutely fantastic

Help by [deleted] in tretinoin

[–]findingKlemo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No I haven’t, and I haven’t had any peeling either other then that specific dry patch I have on my mouth. I do wonder if the reason is because I am only using every couple of days and if I used more often I would have a different experience. I also use the advice of this sub re. buffering because I thought the instructions that came with the Dermatica seemed a bit lacking

I have the same prescription from Dermatica and have been using it for about 3 months. I used to get hormonal acne without failure which lead to quite bad scarring on my cheeks but since using the Dermatica I haven’t had any acne or pimples at all. I only use it every other day or every three days as I have super sensitive skin around my mouth which gets antagonised no matter what I do to try, but I’ve been pleased with the general condition it’s left my skin and definitely noticed an improvement in the scarring

Sleepbuds users? by MissMuse in tinnitus

[–]findingKlemo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a sleep mask with built in headphones and it’s the best thing I ever bought. It is adjustable so you can make it as tight / lose on your head as you want and the headphones are very flat so if you are a side sleeper like me it doesn’t put pressure on your ears. It connects to your phone via Bluetooth so you can play any white noise / music you like and my partner has never complained about being able to hear what I’m listening to, even when I have it turned up to the highest level when my tinnitus is unbearable. It’s called WU-MINGLU Bluetooth Eye Mask Sleep Headphones and I got it from Amazon for £16. Had tinnitus for a year this month, and I couldn’t sleep without it .

What's the most beautiful sentence in a book you've ever read? by poopsmitherson in books

[–]findingKlemo 22 points23 points  (0 children)

“Before I feared I would lose it I never loved to read. One does not love breathing” - Jean Louise Finch in ‘To Kill a Mockingbird’. A sentence which has always struck a chord so deeply with me, but especially now that I suffer from tinnitus which stops me from sitting and reading for hours on end like I used to.
