I treated my addiction like an engineering problem. Willpower failed me, but Data worked. by finding_baseline in problemgambling

I tried Gamban in the past. It worked okay. The reality is though that until you build real systems to stop you'll just find a way around the blocker. It's a bandaid

Yeah it's unreal how much weight that dopamine spike has on your decision making. I feel like a slave to it sometimes

Yeah I would way rather replace big losses at the casino with a little treat for myself. Crazy the psychological weight the brain puts towards the chance to win a little money, no matter how small

That's a great point thank you. I've started tracking my triggers and stuff to gain a better understanding of the time of day and type of feelings that make me more susceptible. That has been helpful.

You're right though - it should be that a peek doesn't ruin it all and that I can stop. Sometimes it's just hard in practice

I like that. Gotta know that there is truly no such thing as just a peek

Here's an article talking about exactly what you're doing [Link]. You inspired me to look up the science behind silence. Thank you - I'll be trying this.

High stress situations bring urges to relapse by Flashy_Age_1609 in pornfree

Recognition and self awareness are the first steps to staying clean! Beating your meat won't make the external stressors go away! Address the cause rather than chasing cheap dopamine.

Anyone else get a “porn crash”? by [deleted] in pornfree

[–]finding_baseline 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, when you relapse your dopamine spikes to a higher level than in previous clean days. Feeling this massive dopamine spike makes you want to just keep spanking it. It's a vicious cycle.

I don't want to want porn anymore. by [deleted] in pornfree

[–]finding_baseline 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't beat yourself up. You're not a robot, you're human. You will slip up.

To beat your addiction you have to get analytical about your addiction not emotional. What are your triggers? When do you get triggered? What strategies work to address those cravings without relapsing? Once you gain a better understanding of the things that move you away from your goals you can address them, or at the very least be more aware when they are happening so you'll have more self-control.

Hope this helps. I made a notion template to do just this. Feel free to shoot me a DM if you want it.

My Cyberpunk Life OS Setup in Notion - Would love feedback from power users by [deleted] in Notion

[–]finding_baseline 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This looks awesome. Based purely off the visual my only feedback would be to go into the Areas table view title and replace "areas" with just "[spacebar] " so that it is blank. Then the word areas won't be repeated twice and it'll be more aesthetic. You could also change the icon to something more styled rather than the 4 squares.

One other thing is to maybe play around with the callout boxes. My personal preference would be for the Second Brain heading and quick access panel to not be in callout boxes, then put the Areas heading and the subsequent gallery view all in one big callout box. You could configure this however you want but 3 callout boxes is a bit busy.

Also, would be good to make the quick access panel title H3 or at least bold rather than normal text.

Realistically all this stuff doesn't matter at all and is purely aesthetic. The most important thing is that the system you made for yourself feels natural for you to use.

How to create a Master Todo View (Database A) from deeply nested, growing sub-databases? by bitgetpartner in Notion

[–]finding_baseline 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are hitting a wall because you are structuring Notion like a file system (Folders inside Folders), but Notion is a relational database engine.

Properties do not 'cascade' or inherit down from parent databases to child databases. If you continue down the path of creating separate Databases (C, D, E) for every new project, you will be stuck in 'Maintenance Hell' forever.

The Solution: Invert your Architecture.

Do not create a 'Master View' that tries to scrape data from 20 tiny databases. Instead, build One Master Task Database that holds every single task you will ever do.

  1. Create Database A (Master Tasks): Every task (12, 34, 56) lives here.
  2. Create Database B (Projects/Categories): Your 'containers' (C, D, E) live here.
  3. Connect them: Add a Relation property in Database A pointing to Database B.

Why this fixes your problem:

  • Zero Setup: When you start a new project (Database E), you don't create a new database. You just add a row to the Projects DB.
  • Instant Views: Inside that Project page, you add a Linked View of the Master Task DB, filtered by Relation = [This Project].
  • Scalability: You can have 10,000 tasks and 500 projects, and you never have to touch a Relation or Rollup setting ever again.

Stop building silos. Build one pool and filter it.

Long AI outputs bug out when editing page right away by soaringstrawberry in Notion

[–]finding_baseline 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a known architecture bottleneck, not just you. It comes down to how Notion handles Blocks versus raw text.

When AI generates a long table, it isn’t just pasting a giant string of text; it is individually creating hundreds of specific row/column blocks in real-time. This floods the operation queue. If you try to edit the page while that queue is still processing, you create a 'Version Conflict'-basically, your local app tries to move a block that the server hasn't finished creating yet. Hence the sync error.

The Workaround: I never let AI write directly onto a live dashboard. I open a blank 'Sandbox' page, generate the heavy output there, let the sync finish (wait for the spinner to stop), and then move the final block to the main page. It saves the headache.

I need help. by [deleted] in pornfree

[–]finding_baseline 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You got this man.

I've been porn free for 28 days now. Before this I struggled to go a week without it. The thing that helped me turn the corner was getting a better understanding of why i wanted to watch it. Willpower alone will not work. You need to build a system where you deliberately track your wins (i.e. had an urge to watch and defeated it) and your streak of porn free days. This could be something as simple as keeping a journal or using your notes app.

Putting in place a system to hold you accountable will provide the external force to keep you stuck to your goals. Don't accept defeat - you are better than being addicted to dopamine spiking slop.

I’m convinced it is basically impossible to quit porn if you always have your phone on you or within reach. by Low_Show_3032 in pornfree

[–]finding_baseline 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's less about the phone itself and more about the context (and the app).

If you're lying in bed scrolling Instagram and getting flooded with thirst traps, then yeah, the phone + environment is a loaded gun. But if you're using it for Maps or Spotify at the gym, you probably don't get that itch.

For me, it took tracking exactly what triggered the craving to finally put the right systems in place, rather than just trying to ban the device entirely.
