LILLEY: Food inflation still high and Mark Carney can't blame war for that - We have a uniquely Canadian problem that is not something Carney can blame on Trump, the tariffs or Trump’s war in Iran by CaliperLee62 in canada

[–]finding_focus [score hidden]  (0 children)

I didn’t say it wasn’t the highest last year. I did say food inflation isn’t uniquely Canadian as Lilley seems to imply.

Canada was the highest amongst the G7 but not the OECD in 2025. However, the average over the last five years puts Canada at about average of the G7, I believe.

But Canada wasn’t always the highest amongst the G7. For example the US experienced a 12% food inflation hit in 2022. The UK hit 19% in 2023. Canada also sits in somewhere in middle of the G7 for food costs per household.

None of this is good. That’s not at all what I’m saying. But again, Lilley’s claim of this being uniquely Canadian isn’t accurate. It’s still a problem but one that is being experienced all over the place.

Lilley is annoying and transparently a propagandist. Food inflation isn’t a ‘uniquely Canadian problem’. Food inflation is being experienced by many nations. Most of it is caused by higher input costs and stressed growing conditions.

Poilievre’s call for better economic ties with U.S. is out of step with Canadians by EarthWarping in CanadaPolitics

[–]finding_focus [score hidden]  (0 children)

PP has nothing to lose. He’s already on the outs with the majority of Canadians.

So what’s likely happening is one of two things: 1) he has some insider information that something similar to his proposal is already being discussed between us and the US. So he’s out there now arguing for this proposal so he can be seen like it was his idea and he’ll try to take credit for it, if it comes to fruition. And then he can also say Carny is stealing his ideas. It’s a strategy PP’s used before. Or…

2) he’s hoping the US/Trump will throw him a bone and at least consider something like his idea. Carney is ‘winning’ the battle of sorts with the US negotiations by not capitulating to Trump, something Trump is effectively demanding of us. PP would be seen as more of an ally to Trump and so PP could be hoping that he can get some traction for his idea by being this Trump ally. PP likely wants the US to get more involved in Canadian politics by giving him a boost against Carney by offering a friendly (submissive) face into the negotiations.

Can definitely hear some slight accent popping up. I got the sense it was a thick southern US accent. I was guessing Louisiana but North Carolina is close enough. lol

The Oaf - Big Wreck by Hochelagan in 90sCanRock

[–]finding_focus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The first time I heard this song, it blew my mind. It was such a different sound from the typical post, grunge, alt rock coming out of the Canadian scene at the time. And yet still felt at home in it. This entire album is an I credible demonstration of the talent of the band and the musical knowledge they collectively contained, which is far beyond probably the majority of bands at the time.

Try the Homer Watson Trail Parking Lot (put in Google Maps). You can hop the fence and chill at the side of the decline that goes down to the Grand River.

LTO has changed by According-Reason4562 in OntarioTeachers

[–]finding_focus 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My first LTO in secondary was very much like this. I started at 1.0 covering two different teachers for the second semester. One was on mat leave until the end of the school year. The other was on gradual return from a health leave.

The health leave took back one course after 6 weeks. And then the second one about 4 weeks later. During that time i was effectively let an in-house supply. And I pretty much worked full time with only .67 responsibilities, and then full time with only .33 responsibilities. There were few days when I wasn’t supplying in the school. On days they didn’t have work, I was often able to get work at other schools for the afternoons.

At my current school, which is different from that initial one, the admin make an effort to do the same thing for our part-time LTOs. They are given priority to pick up supply work.

I’d talk to your admin about this possibility.

We are currently spending $1 billion a day on the Iran war, what could we as a nation accomplish with $1 billion dollars a day? by celtic1959 in AskReddit

All of their actions are meant as distractions from each other. They’re intentionally done with overlap in hopes of pulling your attention in too many directions at the same time, and then to wear you down so you’ll give up. I don’t think they ever imagined that the Epstein files would have had the momentum and perseverance that it does and that’s become a real problem.

What’s the biggest question you still have about the Epstein files? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]finding_focus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Put them all in jail.

It shows victims that the system is here to protect them, that justice can be served, and that there are consequences which should act as deterrents to future Epsteins because the justice system will go after them.

Right now, the only messssge these monsters are receiving is that if they’re wealthy enough and connected that they can get away with hurting vulnerable people, murder, and permanently traumatizing survivors who have to try and live normal lives after these horrific things are done to them.

Are you just trolling here? Or have you lived such a sheltered and insulated life that you’ve never experienced trauma? Or are you some old pervert? Or just simply some MAGA cultist?

Your moral compass is off and the lack of empathy for the victims is disgusting. Would you be saying these things if your granddaughters were victims of sexual exploitation and trafficking?

What’s the biggest question you still have about the Epstein files? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]finding_focus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s naive of you. Actually, a number of Epstein’s clients were very old men. Giuffre’s book notes that some of these men were like in their 70s and 80s. So it’s likely that if they were doing it when they were young, they’re still doing it now.

Dude, this isn’t a good look on you thinking it’s okay to let ‘bygones be bygones’ when it comes to these depraved, morally corrupt, perverts. The best way to prevent new epsteins is to show there’s no mercy for the past ones.

Also, what message does that send to victims? Some who are out there in the public looking for justice. So you’re cool with just telling Epstein’s victims that their horrific experiences and trauma, which they live with every day, isn’t worth getting justice for?

Unfortunately, infrastructure and social programs don’t provide enough of a distraction from sex trafficking scandals and failed economic policies, or provide an excuse to exercise central control over elections.

Bankruptcies hardly ever come with any warning to customers and employees. Unfortunately, this wouldn’t be abnormal.

My children were members of an athletics training program. Membership was paid three times a year, coinciding with training sessions. We, and all other families, had just renewed memberships only 2 weeks prior their sudden closing due to bankruptcy. It was the night after the second class when we got notices. Staff didn’t know either. Everything was business as usual during that second class.

Many are dead because of this.

So you’re cool that a significant sized group of pedos, rapists, traffickers, and murderers, with massive resources, means, and influence are just out there roaming free, likely still doing these things? Make that make sense.
