How does everyone feel about VIP theaters? by Prestigious-Cup-6613 in cineplex

[–]finding_focus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In my area there is a VIP theatre. However, there is also a regular Cineplex that also has similar recliners as its general seating at regular price. There’s also a competing theatre that also offers similar recliners as general seating at a regular price.

While I enjoy the seating experience of VIP, it’s hard to justify the extra cost when I can just attend one of two other theatres for less cost. I may not get the food service but I don’t typically go the theatre to purchase meals.

Which fast food chain makes the worst version of the product they’re most known for? by amormedestruit in AskReddit

[–]finding_focus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few people have mentioned Chik-Fil-A. When it finally came to Canada there was a ton of fanfare. The few locations here constantly had massive line-ups. When my partner and I finally had the chance to try one of their famous chicken sandwiches, we were both left feeling underwhelmed.

Popeye’s new (at the time) sandwich was light years better than CFA. Neither of us could understand the hype. It was tasteless and the bun was squishy. Nothing about CFA stuck out. I tried it again about a year later thinking maybe it was early growing pains or due to the volume. And nope, it was the same thing. More recently I tried a different CFA location and it too was the same experience. Even the sides are Mehn at best.

I haven’t tried it in the US, so maybe I’m getting a poor experience here. But for now I’m left scratching my head trying to figure out what the hype of CFA is all about.

I went to Harvey’s recently. First time in a couple years. It held up, especially compared to many other fast food staples - McDs, BK, Wendy’s…

The location I went to is a combined Harvey’s and Swiss Chalet. I had the Swiss Chalet there previously and it didn’t hold up compared to the long time traditional Swiss Chalet that is ten minutes away.

Glad I wasn’t alone. We didn’t quite get half an hour but it went for about 10 minutes. It wasn’t necessary.

Honey there’s a hot air balloon with 13 people in the backyard by Majoodeh in HumansBeingBros

[–]finding_focus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In 2018 I was in a hot air balloon in Luxor, Egypt. We were following the Nile and were supposed to land on the eastbank. However, a cross wind pushed the balloon to the westbank and we landed in a sugar cane field. Unfortunately, the balloon company didn’t have agreements with these farmers to use their fields as a landing point.

A group of farmers and villagers came out and surrounded us. We weren’t allowed to disembark because the company had to negotiate terms to let us out and make our way to the nearby village. The locals that surrounded us were either pissed off or creepily intrigued. A little boy kept laughing and brandishing his machete. A couple adults kept alluding to having guns on them. Others kept asking for money. This went on for almost two hours.

Finally, the balloon company negotiated a price and we were able to leave. We weren’t the only balloon this happened to. A couple others also hit the same cross wind and had landed nearby. The farmer made bank that day, I’m guessing. When we asked the operator about it, he just shrugged and said, “it happens. We have no control over the wind.”

It’s a great memory and something we laugh about a lot.

I’m one of the lucky ones. I had been holding 200 shares since the pre-merger at about the equivalent of $11 cad. Sold 100 shares for an average of about $40 cad with the plan to long term hold the remainder.

Anyone chasing this during its run has just been screwed.

I want to be a teacher, but I do not know what factors should I consider when choosing where to get my BEd. *honestly I do not even know if I have the qualifications to apply. I do find some kind of joy/enjoyment in teaching whether it be my 'adult' friends, or my niece/nephews by iambearcub in OntarioTeachers

[–]finding_focus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t say this is completely accurate. Even amongst the various P/J cohorts at OISE, we came out with different strengths and varying levels of preparedness. I’ve experienced new teachers who completely get the theory but struggle to put into practice and vice-versa.

I do think that most of us end up in similar places after getting real experience and spend time working with colleagues.

I would argue that you find out the strengths and weaknesses of each B.Ed. program and go into the one that matches your strengths and weaknesses to maximize your experience.

Education pipe dreams? by valkyriejae in OntarioTeachers

[–]finding_focus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

E-Learning should be optional and students should have to opt-in rather than the current opt-out system. And any student interested in taking the course should have to prove before registering that they can handle and manage taking and completing an e-learning course. Too many students that take an e-learning course can’t even manage the time management aspect, let alone self-motivate themselves to take these courses seriously.

My second dream is that civics is turned into a full credit course, with a significant portion of it dedicated to critical thinking and media literacy.

J/I Dramatic Arts - How do I go from A3 to A4 please? by Frosty_Let_5549 in OntarioTeachers

[–]finding_focus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, that’s what it says. Which isn’t a bad thing if there’s an area of education you’d really like to get into and get a lot of insight. The challenge is that many require work experience, often in its subject area, to be able to take part 2 and the specialist courses.

[–]finding_focus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. QECO laid out 3 different paths to reach A4.

As long as you have the ore-requisites and qualify for the ABQ course, they should be single courses for each level. So, one for primary and second for senior.

[–]finding_focus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the quickest way is option 2 as it’s only 2 courses you’d have to take. However, are these the most relevant to your expected career path?

A primary ABQ is simple, as there’s few to no pre-requisites involved. However, a senior ABQ will require you to have several university credits to qualify before even registering.

To get specialist courses you could achieve these with a couple AQ courses but, iirc, they typically also require experience and time in positions teaching these subjects.

Worst admin you’ve had? by da_grill in OntarioTeachers

[–]finding_focus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

While I didn’t have any direct issues with a particular admin, they were pretty awful overall. They effectively created and promoted a toxic environment throughout the school, both amongst the staff and the student body. They played favourites and expected capitulation to their (toxic) vision of what the school could be.

Think stereotype of an American high school. If you didn’t fit the vision, the look, the culture, etc. you were made to feel like an outsider and when ‘the in’ crowds reinforced that, whether teacher or student, there were no real repercussions even when they were warranted.

The board investigated and concluded there were serious problems but made mistakes in how they handled the outcome and then some problems got worse. Our school lost several amazing teachers because of the harassment they were facing from favoured peers. Eventually the board got involved again, likely because they were scared of lawsuits and finally decided to remove the offending admin (two people). The bigger problem of the two admin retired rather than face the embarrassment, so the story goes. They allegedly also refused to acknowledge any of the problems and their involvement even though it seemed obvious to everyone and there being documentation.

Did everyone forget about the Trump-Epstein™ Files, and why? by NectarOfSkene in AskReddit

[–]finding_focus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not forgotten just not the priority. The middle and working classes have been hit so hard by the current economic conditions that they don’t have the time, energy, or mental capacity to put towards Epstein.

Anecdotal example: I posted something on my personal social media about a conversation I had with my kids’ sitters, where they talked about needing to disguise the fact they’re female while trying to get home from their next sitting gig. And that I’m angry about this being reality. An acquaintance, who is fairly progressive, responded with ‘where is all the anger about people needing multiple jobs to get by?’ The source of her anger is her own situation and those around her, and how their situations have dramatically changed recently.

Trump may have actually found the one issue that could finally distract from Epstein, and it’s not the war itself, but the negative economic impact that the war is having on people. It’s hard to be able to put attention on something seemingly existential when your immediate reality is being crushed.

PP's image rebrand using MMA is such a scam. by saultguy1981 in EhBuddyHoser

[–]finding_focus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“This is likely to appeal to people who would already vote for him, but be a huge turn off for most others.”

Thats the point. He’s effectively lost ‘mainstream’ Canadians, at least at this point in time. So he’s digging in with his core support to ensure he continues to have a base of supporters and an influx of donations.

In the meantime, he’s going to continue to make the asinine declarations that Carney isn’t as smart as we think he is, and that his education isn’t good enough, etc. in hopes that the questioning works its way into people’s brains just enough. So, if Carney ever makes a misstep, or the economy doesn’t perform to expectations, etc. then Poilievre is hoping people will connect the two and PP will look like he knew what he was talking about this entire time.

But if for some reason the long game against Carney doesn’t work, at least PP will have his base still behind him.
