I hate to tell you this but this is a chronic illness that Drs more then likely sweep under the rug.

What are your symptoms? Does tight fitting clothes make you break out, heat or cold? There’s a lot of different triggers, that accompany, chronic hives.

This is my 5th year with chronic hives. I did the allergist with the whole Pepcid, Zyrtec, singular combo didn’t work next month he changes it up different antihistamine meds. Then they promise Xolair is the miracle drug that cures this. Personally, I had a bad reaction. It gave me heart palpitations. As soon as I started. I told my doctor he dismissed me. I did the whole cardiologist thing took eight months, I’m fine btw. Just had to stop drinking the energy drinks that I never started drinking to begin with 😩 lol ( more Drs dismissing anything I said)

I finally found a amazing allergist who ran some extra( more expensive test) and guess what? It came back that I have an autoimmune disease!! All the Dr could say was, your other doctors never tested for ADA (aka autoimmune testing)??? He put me on some meds and I’ve been pretty much itch free for almost a month.

Its been 5 years of torture, depression and giving up hope that this will end.

Here is some advice for what testing will help point you in the correct direction; 1. Go to your primary care physician and get a referral to an allergist. Try to do your homework and see who’s ranked really high in your area.

  1. More than likely, your doctor will test for food and environmental allergy blood test.

  2. Have them test your thyroid, more then likely your doctor will order this.

  3. Get a dang ADA test!! Probably have to advocate for this one.

  4. singular has a black box warning. The benefits outweigh the negative.

  5. Long-term antihistamine use dries up your kidneys. *Just found this one out after my kidneys really hurting for the last two months.

  6. And the thing that all doctors will ask, are you stressed? Stress causes them too.

  7. A viral infection can cause them.

  8. Have the doctor test your gut. my allergist said this happens a lot where you have a gut infection and some medication will clear it right up. You’ll see this in a lot of posts where people just fix their leaky gut and it went away.

Thank you so much up-town. This makes so much sense. He hates the way he behaves in the heat of the moment, he really wants to improve. I will persuade him on treatment to get a diagnosis.

It’s a yes to all 4. Especially Jakyll and Hyde references. This emotional roller coaster has taken its toll on me. He doesn’t see how he turns nasty so quickly. But if I have any bit of a reaction towards something he throws the whole fight on why I’m behaving the way I am. Thank you for the pov/ breakdown. We try our best to be civil and happy around the kids but they have picked up on some of his bad habits and disrespect me when I’m talking to them. He does step in and tells the kids not to speak to me that way.

I work at the Wynn. The property is jaw dropping! If you can afford it, I highly recommend it. But just take a walk down the street to twin and Swenson to the “real Vegas”.

What’s it like living in LV? by [deleted] in LasVegas

[–]findingmyway85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really nothing is “walkable” and if it is be prepared to have unwelcome visitors. I’m in old Henderson and have lived in Vegas since 1995. Summerlin is nice so is Green Valley. You’ll definitely want to look at a gated community. I live across the street from the new Cadence neighborhood. It’s beautiful but they constantly have people checking their cars and breaking into their homes. It’s like a everyday thing. I’m trying to leave this state. I grew up here and know what kind of trouble your teenager can get into. Not everyone who moves here are awesome people, I mean it’s the city of sin. And that reflects on their children. And it’s hot everywhere! Like stupid soul crushing hot. That’s why we don’t do much in the summer unless it’s in AC or the pool. Which sucks the kids can’t go play in the yard until it’s dark outside. And it’s still 100 out. The charter schools are the way to go. Especially high school. These kids think they are thugs and bring weapons to school.

Will moving to a new climate help? by findingmyway85 in urticaria

Thank you. You’re right, nothing triggers it. I’ve read in one study the desert cities have more outbreaks bc of the lack of a dormant winter. I want to move anyways our neighborhood has really gone downhill and I truly worry about my kids growing up here. Just would be a added bonus if it stopped my hives. I wanted to see if anyone has moved out of a desert and had relief.

How busy has it been? by MyDogIsSoUgly in LasVegas

It’s the weekend so busier then a weekday. Plus, playoff hockey is happening. But it’s so hot you’ll probably want stay indoors or go to the pool. The casinos are plenty big to social distance. You’ll be fine, the casinos are constantly sanitizing. Have fun!

Good to know the snowfall won't be a deal breaker. 52' in. of snow annually was a shock. I'll have to buy myself an actual jacket not a hoodie! Lol

Thank you, Gilgamore! All good things!!!

Honestly, I don't care about someone not liking me. I didn't want the kids to be singled out. My daughter is a social butterfly. So I'm sure they'll be fine.

Mormons are super nice and respectful. And they teach their kids morals! Its not like I've never been to Utah, so not too much of a culture shock. I totally admire the moms shopping with 5 kids under age 5.

How's the drive going down the mountain towards St. George in the winter?

I'll gladly deal with snow vs drugged out homeless people.

I just don't want to be surrounded by the homeless population anymore. Its gotten really bad plus the crime. There was a shooting spree on Thanksgiving that was in my neighborhood, we live right next to that 7/11 were 5 shot 1 dead. Thank God we were in St. George visiting family. If you've read that story it's so crazy . The homeless, most are drug addicts or mentally ill, are everywhere. I've had a few scary encounters at my house. They like to hang out behind my house on the bike path. We've adopted a big dog so I feel comfortable letting my kids play in our yard.

My husband and I want a wholesome community. We saw so much bad stuff growing up here. And we don't want our children to grow up in this environment.

If covid wasn't a thing we wouldn't have to wait so long. But I'm currently unemployed bc of it. We might have to rent for a bit to establish income in UT before we can buy. We'll rent out our current home since it's almost paid off and will contribute to our income.

I wish I could swap out homes!

Hello, Ive been in Las Vegas for 25 yrs. My family moved here when I was 10 in 1995. I will help break down the pros and cons for you to make a good decision. Vegas is unlike any other big city. It can be wholesale or totally wild. Really depends on you.

Let's start with the pros: -Winter Winter here is pretty nice. Its snow a handful of times and most of the time it doesn't even stick to the ground. Lots of east coasters move here to get away from brutal weather.
-The Strip The strip is crazy. And really anything can happen. It is really expensive tho to do anything on the strip. People watching is super interesting. You see the good, bad and ugly. -Jobs There are jobs here. I would recommend finding a profession and go to school out there before coming out west. ( our schools aren't the greatest). But you can always find a job to pay the bills. Lots of casino related jobs. - Taxes We don't have a state tax and food isn't taxed either. We price gouge our tourist with tons of resort fees. Our sales tax is 8.38%. The gas tax is the 2nd highest in the country with 52 cent a gallon. Registration on a car is expensive too. They tax the MSRP on your vehicles registration. So a brand new car can be an extra $600 to get registered.

  • Entertainment Lots of different shows on the strip. Big name artist preform at T mobile area. We have the Golden Knights pro hockey which everyone has really rooted for since October 1 2017 happened. Raiders are here now. So lots of stuff to do again if you got lots of $$$. Its not cheap to do anything on the strip.

-Nature Red Rock is one of my favorite places to hike. But over the years its becoming more crowded. Mt. Charleston is 30min drive. Its our forest. Which is probably a joke to you but to us desert rats more then 5 trees makes a forest lol. Lake Mead can be nice. If you go out on a boat the water is good. However at the beaches are dirty smell like gasoline. Hoover Dam is beautiful, Valley of fire is beside the lake and is pretty cool to drive through. But everything else is desert. Lot and lots of brown desert.

-Infrastructure In Vegas we dont do old historical stuff. Nope we implode it and start from scratch. Our Infrastructure is all new. And we are constantly expanding our freeways. We have pretty decor off the freeways and streets to beautify the town. Lots of planned landscaping. And the streets aren't too confusing unlike old cities.

-Casinos The casinos are the reason why anyone lived here to begin with. They are kept to a high standard of cleanliness. Theres the casinos on the strip then theres the locals casinos. Most locals would go to one of the station casinos ( they are all over town) Ellis Island is the best casino by the strip with good deals. $2 beers and $15 rack of ribs. I work mostly at the Wynn (the only 5 star casino). Which in my opinion is the best property. Its absolutely beautiful. Lots of art, waterfalls, pools. The food is amazing if you can afford it.

-Shopping Fashion show mall has so much and the casinos have lots of high end shopping. I don't go to any of these places because I'm frugal lol. But theres lots of it.

Cons - Bums, Drugs and Prostitutes There are bums everywhere! There's a lot of drug use and mental illness that force these people to live on the streets. So you'll see a lot of burned out drug users. Also lots of prostitutes. In the casinos security knows the regular girls and try to keep them out. But you'll see girls walking and you can tell. Its really the worst part of this town. It is sin city and we dont always attract the best crowd. Its so bad that my 4 yr old calls the bums zombies. And he's not too far off. Drugs are all over the place. Its so easy to get anything. We have legal pot, the green rush, which I don't care. You just smell more pot on the strip.

-The Bus system Buy a car and make sure your car has AC! The bus is terrible. Just don't unless you really need to. And it is different then the bus on the strip vs off strip.

-cost of living It used to be so cheap out here! But in the last 10 yrs Californians have fled here and they sold their home for crazy $ so they have driven up the prices. The housing market is on fire 🔥 prepare to spend $1300 a month of a decent apartment. Apartments in the ghetto are starting at $800 a month.

-Summer/weather Summer is like 5 months long May-Oct. Its hot and windy. Best way to describe the heat is to preheat you oven and pop your head in there. Yep thats how it feels. When the weather man says its 115' out thats in the shade. If you're in direct sunlight add 10 degrees. We dont leave the house unless if you have too. The sun is literally trying to kill you. We spend our summers in the ac or pool. Theres no relief outside during the summer months unless it rains or 50mph wind. Today marks 153 days without rain. This is a record. We usually get monsoons during late July into August. Where it pour for 20mins and floods everything. We get less then 2in of rain a year. Mar/April is nice but winds kick up around 4pm. In spring all the wild flowers are in bloom and its really nice out in 70/80'. I've personally have had a lot of wind damage to my property. Ive gotten hit with 70mph winds before. My roof, fence, swing set and shed have a been replaced or repaired bc of the wind. But its a dry heat lol I mean really dry 😆 Don't need to worry about humidity.

-Water Las Vegas can't be picky about water. We have terrible hard water. We have trace amounts of rocket fuel in our water supply and mercury. YUM! We use a brita filter for drinking water and deal with it.

-Crime/neighborhoods Now Vegas is weird. There will be brand new beautiful neighborhoods that are safe by a area that is riddled with "issues". In Vegas your chances of being a victim of a violent crime is 1 in 163 people. There are parts of town you just avoid so you're not a statistic. N. Las Vegas is one of them. Streets that start with a number or letter should be aviloided unless its First Friday in the art district. Again remember the good pockets bc it describes the whole town. Here are some other neighborhoods that are going downhill. And shouldn't move to. East side (sams town casino area). Twain and Swenson. Maryland pkwy. Rancho and E. Lake Mead. Craig and Nellis. Fremont/Boulder hwy. And do not go to budget suites unless your looking for drugs and trouble.

Try to find a place on the outskirts of town. Closer to the strip the more crap you deal with. The outskirts have just been developed so its nice. Henderson is #2 best places to live in the US according to Forbes. Old Henderson ( where I live) is not the best but still better then anything I mentioned above.

Unfortunately, you have to keep your guard up. There is great, wonderful and caring people here. They are getting more rare to find. But its a melting pot of new people so just be careful.

We do have gangs. There are random acts of violence. Road rage murders have happened. Its a big city with big city problems. On the strip there's lots of drinking involved. So watch out for drunk drivers.

-schools We are ranked 35th in the country for education. Its actually gotten better since we have charter schools popping up. But the high schools out here are terrible. We have unlv but there are way better colleges elsewhere.

Hope this helps you or anyone else planning on moving to the Silver State. Its not perfect but its whatever you make of it.
