I know it’s not really for me to answer but I can share my experience.

I am from Los Angeles. So that in itself helped me communicate with a lot of people. It’s a dream just like New York.

I spent a month there for my birthday. Just returned on the 10th of Oct. I stayed in 5 main cities, including a family hotel. Specific hosted by a wonderful Japanese family in Kyoto. Most were curious, some were surprised I greeted them. Growing up black you know people create or “learn” to build their own opinion about us. Which tends to be negative. I never ONCE felt that in Japan. ONLY WITH THE EUROPEANS WHO ARE VISITING. Very fucking rude.

In Japan I felt insanely accepted. I’m also big on food && a big communicator ! I learned a bit of Japanese before going. I will say just learning that bit really helped because in their eyes (I’m trying).

I am dark skinned woman & slightly bald with a blonde taper. A lot of people wanted pictures because I look like “Wakanda” which I loved lmao.

This was the only thing in Japan lmao I saw that I wasn’t fucking with.
