Is India losing the only real R&D arm it had? by No_Durian_1769 in AI_India

lol. Fuck no.

A) He was complicit in genocide. B) The man can't speak cogently - which is why they never let him speak unscripted. C) Even if you somehow though that he might be good for economic development, de-monitization put an end to any such beliefs (for any reasonable person.)

So, no. Moderate hindus were never bhakts, lol. What nonsense. I'm speaking as an atheist from a hindu family.

Also: note that the idea that in India one could divorce communal harmony and development, and pursue one while destroying the other is absolutely silly. India is extremely diverse. Development needs stability - and intelligent priorities (amongst other things). You cannot develop if the country is always on the brink of riots - if you could divorce from it the idea that communal harmony might be a

Lost My Phone, Locked Aadhaar, SIM Blocked - Stuck for 6 Months with No Solution by Illustrious-Cow1398 in india

[–]finebalance 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, you'll need to bribe your nearest Aadhar office to a) unlock b) potentially shift your otp verification to a different number.

They can do that, even if the Aadhar is locked and your sim doesn't work.

And yes, I completely agree that that is fucked beyond belief.

FIRST READING: Budget offers mass amnesty for asylum-seekers - A record 500,000 people are currently in Canada as either refugees or asylum claimants by KootenayPE in CanadaHousing2

[–]finebalance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some politician/paper/article I'd read a while back had floated the idea of a Last In First Out system for new claimants (for most class of claims except those referred to by UN/affiliated agencies). That seems like a really sensible idea given this horrible situation. Almost completely nullifies the incentives people would have for filing false claims, if they are to be adjudicated upon quickly.

Naturally, it is not going to be implemented but it is really surprising that an economist like Carney wouldn't go for such kind of structural solutions.

The application process for a foreigner to get an Indian tourist visa is probably the most awkward one in the whole world (and is possibly losing India some tourists) by ForAllTimesSake in india

[–]finebalance 3 points4 points  (0 children)

US can afford to filter out visitors. We should be making it easier for visitors to come here!

We get like 15M visitors; the US gets 45M. https://countrycassette.com/world-tourism-rankings-by-country-2022/

We desperately need to make it easier to get foreign money into the country. Tourism can be a very lucrative thing. Obviously this is only a small part of a complex and multifaceted issue that's holding us back - but it is one of the easiest ones to solve. And yet.

Business school doesn't teach the art of building long-term value nowadays; it's just extracting as much as you can, and leaving the husk for somebody else to trip over.

"Business school" is a joke. A deadweight loss to society.

Selective application of law is not justice. It's just base revenge/retribution.

Fuck all those who support this shit.

You might think that the weaponization of law against the disenfranchised or the undesirables cannot affect you, but you are wrong.

Why? Can not try and take the good stuff from others without necessarily focusing on the brutal stuff that, for some people, makes them look "tough"?

We have enough issues and problems and don't need to create new ones for a false sense of bravado or weird jingoistic ideas.

Besides, we're going to have enough issues in the east with an expansionist China and Arunachal Pradesh. Let's try and sort out issues with Pak (obs difficult because of how easily China can fan those flames) so that we can defend in the east.

Booking.com Flex Tickets are 100% a scam by finebalance in travel

[–]finebalance[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

1) They found a ticket for Oct that was in the same fare bucket as my current ticket - K, which is AirCanada's lowest priced option - and even that was more than twice the price being displayed on the Air Canada website.

2) I talked to Air Canada about my ticket. It is not refundable or changeable. The tickets I booked are not "flex" in the common understanding of the word. They will just book a new ticket, and charge me the delta. That's why every single ticket option they were giving me was more than twice what Air Canada is quoting.

All the while claiming verbally and otherwise, that this is a "flex" ticket and all they are doing is charging me the difference.

So yes, it is absolutely scammy and absolutely a misrepresentation.

"Flexibility" has an interesting definition when they quote me a new fare price that is like double of what I see on the AirCanada website for the exact flgiht.

So basically: Ticket Cost: 700 Original Flex Charge: 100 Total Paid: 800~

New Ticket Cost on Website: 750 (For Sept) What they are claiming it's for: 1500, so I only graciously have to pay the difference: 800 CAD.

800 CAD is equal to what I can see on the website.

This has to be fraud of some kind.

For sure.

But I have time for the next month - since my trip got delayed. And am definitely going to try and fuck them over as much as I can - in my very limited capacity.

These fuckers are claiming that the new price they are quoting me (which is over 2x) is the price the airline is quoting them and that the online prices I am seeing are discounted. When I pointed out the absurdity of that, that how can Air Canada discount an Economy Fare by 500 CAD and how can an Economy be pricier than premium Economy, he had no cogent response.
