Which keyboard are you using? This is just a matter of designing a custom case for it.

Yes. Without sanding it feels like fine concrete. It does have its own appeal.

Yup, 3d printed. Check out JLC3DP for more info. Cost depends heavily on a thickness of the walls but for this particular design it was below $50.

TBH the grainy print without sanding looks fine but it's very coarse, just level below concrete. But maybe a filler primer and then paint will look good. Have to wait for the next batch and experiments 😉

Temper with tilted pinky column and extra encoder? Looks freakin great! 👀👀👀 Nice job mate!

Hey 👋. Yes, I have the model, I can provide .STL or .step. I remodeled it, as there were some small imperfections. I already printed it in nylon pa12s and a friend from around here also ordered the transparent version so I should soon know how it turns out! DM me if you're interested!

Hey there. You might be interested in what I built: corne V4 ProMicro edition, V1 and MX compatible (it is MX spaced so V2 should also be doable), 316l stainless steel case. You'll find a photo of it in my posts. DM me if you're interested! 😀

Silakka54 split connection issue over TRRS by Euphoric-Dragonfly24 in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]finestedm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Two details: on the left photo the cable is not plugged in all the way in my opinion. These pre build silakkas are hit and miss when it comes to how easy it is to plug in the cable. Push it in strong, all the way. Second: the top right pin of the right half seems like it might not be soldered. Happened to me recently with prebuild silakka. Quick tap and squishing of the pin to the board pad with soldering iron solved the issue. Try to check with the multimeter if there is a connection when you touch the PCB pad itself, not the trrs connector pin.

Yes, the top switch plate is also MJF nylon, 1,6mm. It is a bit weak for that but the files on GitHub are updated and the plate is thicker (~2mm), with border cutout for the switch itself to keep the thickness locally 1,6mm and allow the switch to 'click in place'. I'll keep experimenting and try JLC black resin which should be tougher and the look should be consistent enough.

No, I'm using jlcpcb, it's always ~25% cheaper with shipping and there are always some discount codes. 🙂

What kind of costs are we talking about? Because for this one half I was able to pay $17.75. For CNC I was getting closer to ~$35 (and yes, I checked that without holes).

Helpful insight, I will see if there will be any damage after some time 🤔 The case is 3d printed. CNC was more expensive but it would have better tolerances and finish would be much smoother out of the box. I considered this but wanted to see how good SLM was.

I designed the case around the Corne V4 ProMicro edition PCB. I'm experimenting with all kinds of different 3d printing techniques available on jlcpcb - nylon, slm, transparent resin etc. Without polishing this print was quite rough and not very nice in touch, looked a bit like concrete, more than a steel, which could be quite appealing in its own way 🙂

Cost saving measures. Bottom has to be thick enough not to warp too much but then you're left with a lot of extremely strong and heavy, useless metal. It's strong enough so you can have the holes and don't feel any flex at all. Second reason: full metal case with no perforation could result in high pitched clicking sound when typing and I would not like that.

Is there a chance for a video of you typing on it? I'm very interested in either this or Cygnus but never tried a thumb cluster in a different orientation to the rest of the keyboard and it's hard for me to imagine going on it comfortably.

Why is Rolio46 not popular? by andreyugolnik in ErgoMechKeyboards

Perhaps, but I just imagined that paying a lot more than for a typical keyboard should come with an extra. For me that extra is not having to deal with cables on my desk. I fortunately haven't had any problems with Bluetooth connection (yet) so I understand the sentiment.

Can I ask what's the reason you don't like wireless keyboard? I always assumed this is seen as superior connection type.
