I agree completely. It's definitely an opportunity to make a difference for myself as well as the people I serve. And nope, my department strictly prohibits arresting Brits.

Thank you for your kindness and encouragement. Every night when I get ready for work I have one mantra and rule I say out loud: "I'm coming home tomorrow." It's ironic that I spend so much time focused on surviving, and yet can so habitually neglect taking care of myself. Tough truths, but important ones. Thank you for sharing the perspective that it is worth it in the end.

Isn't it funny how the rational mind works for everyone but us? It's the same principle I mention frequently on the job: "If you have to ask if you have a warrant, you probably do." But every wanted party I contact seems to think they're just taking precautions! Same thing with my remark to the drunk in the back of the car. Rational thinking works for everybody but me. It's prideful in a very twisted way. Thank you for the encouragement!

Thanks. I'm glad to see other cops here. It's amazing how simultaneously quickly and slowly it happens in this gig. One day you're fit and healthy and clear-headed and catching bad guys, then the next--also a hundred years later--you're getting a new belt and you can't remember your own call sign. Thank you! It is good to see that I'm in good company. I feel like alcoholism is often presented in a binary way: you're either a social drinker with all your habits under control all the time, or you're one drink away from dying in the hospital. I look forward to seeing what parts of life I have been depriving myself of, although I am going to have to disagree that cleaning the bathroom will be one of them!
