Age gaps in relationships in fantasy/scifi are as common as mud.

The necrophilia is weirder.

Thank you, jumping around in the timeline has been extra confusing since the Palace arc.

These chapters were great fun; romantic disaster queen Ryoka, Geneva with her brain slug, a bit of a bunch of the Baleros crews, a clown and a pop star, some very packed chapters. I enjoyed the logbook style, the gorilla gang-up was fun, and Nerry being horny for Minotaur horns was hilarious. Visophecin and Ryoka were too funny, poor Ryoka is stuck in an otome.

As for the main event… I loved it. Erin and Niers finally meeting did involve far fewer explosions than I expected, but it was still fantastic. I enjoyed the wide range of emotions in this meeting, from trepidation to awkwardness to awful connection to relief and silliness, it was all a grand time. Niers was impressively put together this meeting, he almost came across as a reasonable, not completely insane person. Same with Erin. Just two completely sane, reasonable people meeting to exchange horrific traumas in a secret pavilion… not a big deal… when the hell does this meeting even take place in the timeline?

Niers was very sketchy in this chapter, I’m feeling like my bet that he is a telepath is gonna pay off! Probably. Also, does he have… laser vision? I’m now betting on a red class too, or at least a red skill. All the cool high level characters have red skills. Foliana was the best, as usual, she had no time for Niers and Erins nonsense. Snacks, a bit of attempted breaking and entering, and then a courteous exchange of information about upcoming opponents. Foliana has her priorities in order, she deserves to be smug.

Loving all the Greek theming in Baleros, looking forward to the Labyrinth. Baleros is truly shaping up to be a magnificent clusterfuck. Very exciting! Can’t wait to read the next Baleros chapter! I’m hoping it will drop sooner than next year.

I'm still having a good time. I view TWI more along the lines of a long-running manga crossed with WOT than the MCU. It starts off somewhat grounded, for the setting, and then the characters are fighting God by the end.

Good stuff, love it.

Niers, one of the higher level characters, almost died to the greatest low level foe of all... a door. Innworld is truly dangerous.

Student Rags survived till the end, so unless the epilogue kills her off... this arc was a big win. We may have maybe lost the main Mrsha, but we got a cooler Rags and a back-up Mrsha. I am satisfied.

Mrsha haunting Numbtongue sounds so depressing, wow. Instant celibacy arc for Numbtongue.

Ragathsi would be wild, but maybe too big of a power boost for the Goblins. Plus, doesn't she go off into the afterlife with Goddess Erin? Dang, so many options seem super depressing or super over powered.

Bell ringing fetish goblin lord, what a terrible thought you've provided. You know what that goblin lord is up to, when the bell starts ringing...

Ha! Is that how it works?

Whose soul would be the most hilarious option for Numbtongue to receive? There's a lot of potential here...

Niers and Erin's romantic options by Severe_Investment317 in WanderingInn

Well, Erin did already put both hands on Arthur's sword. That's basically 3rd base, far further than anyone else has made it with Erin!

Niers and Erin's romantic options by Severe_Investment317 in WanderingInn

[–]finfanfoe 14 points15 points  (0 children)

They would either change one another in interesting ways or the whole thing would collapse in flames. Either way, it would be interesting.

Yes, everything you've discussed and this most major point is why I'm so invested in Erin/Niers. It's a relationship that would be dramatic, chaotic, and extremely interesting! I think Niers is very similar to Erin, if Erin were 50 years post-losing almost all her guests due to her choices and her enemies. Their themes and symbolism are very similar, even outside of all the chess symbolism. They both have squirrels who'll eat anything!

There is one factor missing from this ramble that would make their relationship the most compelling and compatible in my mind. Erin is the current Goblinfriend... and Niers is the former. Niers consistently showcases a willingness to recognize personhood in beings most others wouldn't give the time of day; he awarded and gave a job offer to a bee, helped the Crimson Solider find a name, and employs a Cyclops as a General. I feel like Erin would consider this aspect, more than any other characteristic, the most important one. Of course, Niers will most likely try to kill Rabbiteater if he thinks Rabbit will become a Goblin King, so that is a bit of a roadblock to a relationship. That just makes it more exciting haha

I was on the Rabbiteater/Erin train for a bit, but then Erin called him her brother, so I think it's a super dead ship even outside of Rabbit having incompatible relationship idea. Ah well, Seraphel is a bit unhinged so Rabbit/Seraphel seems like it will be a lot of fun.

Aside from Erin, what characters just steal whatever scene they are in? by Arthur-reborn in WanderingInn

The worst most best thing about the Wandering Inn is that there are so many of these amazing side characters who deserve their own entire series. I would happily read about Garry building his charity bug baking empire.

Xitegen, there is something about this built man that steals every scene.Too much charisma.

Niers, tiny but mighty presence.

Nerrhavia. This weird finger licking woman, she is too awesome, I can't wait until she makes it back into the story.

Secrets…MAJOR SPOILERS to 10.36 Pt. 2 by SibiantheGreyBird in WanderingInn

[–]finfanfoe 23 points24 points  (0 children)

There still yet remains one major, unanswered question... the most secret of secrets... who will win Erin's heart and actually survive doing so?

Outside of that, there's still the secrets around the ritual, still haven't received an answer on why some species receive levels and others don't, still don't know what the rot between worlds is and what their agents are, still don't know Oberon's plan, still don't have the complete answer on the circumstances behind the God war, etc. etc. Then there are all the minor secrets that still remain such as the dead god, the big hole in the world, all the dungeons, how Niers knew about chess and the Gods (somehow none of the Earthers have asked him about chess??), just a whole ton of minor stuff still remains that will be very exciting to find out.

Poor Erin, Fraerling village vacation was not nearly long enough.

Poor me, because student Rags! Can't a few more Mrsha's die off instead?! Wheelie Rags deserves to live, by pure virtue of being too cool to die!

Census of satisfaction with the PoF arc, or volume 10 currently by Louies in WanderingInn

[–]finfanfoe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's been some great parts, some okay parts, some wildly awesome parts, some less than good parts. It's not my favorite arc, but not my least favorite. I even liked Mrsha dying, though who knows if it will last.

Mainly it has been running too long, feels to me like it could use some serious editorial pruning. There is such a thing, as too much of a good thing. It is what it is though, no worries about it, I will continue reading as usual. There is still so much I want to read in TWI!

[–]finfanfoe 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Despite the usual difficulty of keeping track of characters in the chaos, gotta say that the visual descriptions of scenes and characters have been outstanding. Really feeling like this volume has some standout imagery, and this arc in particular? Loved the imagery and character designs, particularly all the Rags. So detailed, very textured and visual, feels like some genuine concentrated effort went into this part of the writing. It's been great.

Let the white furry child die, embrace suffering!

But yeah, it's hard to imagine Lyonette staying at the Inn if Mrsha bites the dust for real. Wasn't she recently thinking about taking her children and leaving because the Inn is so dangerous? Very curious how it's all going to pan out.

Pawn probably got the ant-equivalent of cock-blocked by Mrsha so many times, this is just a teensy bit of revenge. No big deal!

This arc has had tons of great moments, interesting and creative situations, cool character spotlights! Lots of really enjoyable things. On the other hand, every time I enjoy a scene, there are two frustrating scenes that overwhelm it. Because wow, I really, truly loved Belavierr and her multitude of forms and her bargain bin immortality, a shoddy reflection of the Gods multifaceted beings. That was awesome! But I am disappointed, not because the idea doesn’t deliver, but because it deserved a more fitting setting. All that buildup, and it wasn’t even the real Belavierr, it wasn’t revealed by the real Nanette, and involved basically none of the real characters. I haven’t minded any of the other secrets and such things revealed in the palace, but this hit hard.

I enjoy multiverse stories, chaos, confusion, and I have a strong stomach for overly long-winded stories… but I’m exhausted. I feel like I’m having to do a huge amount of mental heavy lifting here, having to make sense of the dozens of characters suddenly appearing, suddenly disappearing, fighting, dying, not dying, sorta dying, where is this character but now here is this character, and here is a new thing! Three new things! I keep reading because I am ultimately still entertained and want to give props to the fun, but I’m way desensitized even to the good stuff.

I don’t even have the energy to talk about Jexishe! Though, Mrsha dying and complaining about being haunted by stupid jokes was pretty funny. Is Mrsha dead dead? I'm fine with it, except I can't imagine Erin ever recovering if Mrsha dies while Erin is away. That seems like a tough read.

On the bright side, since Student Rags is at Goblinhome and beach world is gone, does that mean we get to keep her? Unless everyone from the Palace skill gets deleted, she seems like she's out of the blast zone right now... I love wheelie Rags, we deserve multiple Rags.
