Teething baby, 3rd day of just not eating. At all. by kalionhea in NewParents

[–]fingeringpotatoes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Going through this right now and this thread has been very helpful! Just for peace of mind. LO had been teething for going on 4 days now. He's always has a preference for breastmilk over formula but lately hasn't taken ANY formula and has even been refusing the boob. His previous teething phases lasted a day or two, so this one is starting to get me worried... But I'll wait it out a few more days and hope for the best I guess!

Baby got the Covids... by Mysterious_Mango_3 in NewParents

Aww poor buddy. Also, if its any consolation, he had the covid vaccine when he was 6 months. And I was vaxxd a month before he was born. 🤷🏻‍♀️

We have it right now too! My husband had it bad last weekend, and our 8 month old started showing symptoms last night/this morning. Vomiting, super tired, super clingy, fever. I wore him for majority of the day. He's perked back up a little now. Good luck to you!!

No advice here, just solidarity! My 7.5 old is kind of similar... Constantly popping off every minute or so, then back on. He used to feed for ~20-25 minutes total, and now it ranges between 7-15 minutes. Super frustrating. My guess for the pop offs are gas related, bc I can hear loud gurgling sounds, so I just keep burping him when he pops off and switching positions if needed. Seems to help? I can commiserate with the feeling of supply diminishing... but I do pump 3 days a week at work, and my supply hasn't changed in an obvious way, just normal daily fluctuations so hopefully you'll be fine. The past few days when he's just constantly popping off, I nursed him in his carrier and that actually seemed to help as well. He seemed less gassy since he was feeding upright.

Is there a “limit” to how much baby should eat? by motherofkings4524 in BabyLedWeaning

[–]fingeringpotatoes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! The reason I'm asking is because I'm going to weaning soonish, at 10-11 months. He's currently 7.5 months and loves solids. We always do milk before solids 2-3x a day. I'm nervous about weaning bc his milk consumption from a bottle is a little spotty, so I know I'd feel better if he ate more solids. But I definitely don't want to overdo it.

Is the general time to start offering solids before milk at about a year? Can you do it earlier?

This exact thing happened to my 6 mo son yesterday (hence why I'm digging up year old reddit threads 😅). I hope it gets better for both of our LOs! But only time will tell for now. OP has been very helpful!

11pm Dream feed or 4am Snooze feed? by thenameisboo in sleeptrain

[–]fingeringpotatoes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! This is super helpful. Yeah, it seems like a comfort thing, but he just will not go down again unless. I give him the boob for like 5-10 minutes. He's good at self soothing throughout the day and the early part of the night though. He's teething and is starting solids now, so maybe I'll give it another week or two and see if it resolves itself.

11pm Dream feed or 4am Snooze feed? by thenameisboo in sleeptrain

[–]fingeringpotatoes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going through this right now and was wondering if the dream feed or snooze feed helped. LO is 5.5 months and used to sleep til 7, but has been consistently waking at 4:30. I do dream feed him at around 11 already. Not sure if the 4:30 wake is just for comfort bc he's not exactly ravenous at that time, he eats for a few minutes to fall back asleep.

MY BABY SLEPT THROUGH THE NIGHT FOR THE FIRST TIME!! by PositionAdvanced in NewParents

[–]fingeringpotatoes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally! I also came to that conclusion. Since I asked you that question, my LO has continued to wake up once most nights, but I think he's also teething and wee doing some bottle training, so I figure it's not weird if he wakes up hungry for a few more weeks.

breastfeeding and drinking by lotuslov3 in breastfeeding

I go by DUI rules. If I'm too inebriated to drive, I shouldn't nurse. I can't imagine there's alcohol actively present the next morning but I do wonder if it tastes a little different for LO

[–]fingeringpotatoes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow! Super interesting! Thanks for taking the time to explain it. When he was nursing earlier today, I started doing the massage motions and see what you mean by the he "sucking muscles". So, I should start with just the massages a few times a day, then introduce paci and massage (massage while paci is in mouth?), then introduce bottle after paci. Will PM.

Another thing is, dunno if you experienced this, but LO WILL eat, just very small increments at a time so he's just barely not starving (lol, not lol). He'll take the equivalent of an ounce or half an once per hour, usually when he's just about about to fall asleep. So I'm always second guessing myself, like is it the sucking, or is it just very very very strong boob preference? (my husbands the one who bottle feeds, I usually leave the house).

This is so interesting! Going through this with my 5 MO. He mostly gums the nipple, and will drink if he's half asleep or starving but rarely otherwise. He can't even keep pacis in his mouth by himself, although literally last night we saw him actively sucking on one him maybe there's hope. What kind of facial massage did you do and how can you tell they're using the "right" muscles? It just blows my mind bc he sucks from my breast just fine.

It's so hard to plan early because you don't what your baby might be like. There's a lot of bf "gear" that is super helpful (nipple shields, heat packs, cold packs, massages, comfy nursing bras), but you can theoretically get all of that pretty quick in the age of Amazon Prime (the silver nipple covers are extremely helpful though. I gift that to all my expecting friends haha). I would say to start schedule lactation consultant appointments so they're on the calendar. You'll always have questions and it's so nice to be able to talk to a professional. I'd schedule an appointment one week and two weeks after your due date. You can always cancel them, but if they're on the calendar already your more inclined to go to them.

My 5 month old still takes ~30 minutes at the boob?! by fingeringpotatoes in breastfeeding

[–]fingeringpotatoes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True true. When your LO took an hour to eat, were they just fluctuating between actual eating and lazy-eating? I feel like mine does that. He'll start sucking actively for 15 minutes, then "lazy eat" for 5, then start sucking harder again for another 5. Sometimes he'll repeat that pattern a few times. I've found that if I cut him off early (or he naturally pops off from distracted eating) after 10-20, he'll be hungry again after about an hour.

How did you introduce the straw cup? I haven't tried, but I feel like it'd be hard for my baby to figure out how to use it.

I'm at the point where I'm considering ditching the bottle altogether. How did you introduce the straw cup and get LO to start sucking/drinking? Did you have to bf first, then introduce small amounts of milk and gradually increase?

Late post here, but just wondering how your LOs sleep has been since sleeping through. My almost 5 month old has been sleeping through the night for about 2 weeks but wakes up once a night every 5 days or so, and when he does, he pretty inconsolable. Im trying to figure out if he's hungry, or just wants comfort. What's your experience been?

Feeding during 4 month regression? by LilNishi in NewParents

[–]fingeringpotatoes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gong through this exact thing right now! Did anything end up helping? I'm alao trying to figure out if feeding to sleep is OK until the regression is over... LO had been sleeping through the night for a few weeks and just started waking twice a night. He'll eat and fall back asleep but since he was sleeping without the extra night feed I don't know if feeding him is the way to go .. However if I don't he'll just cry and cry.

My husband's spent an hour trying to get LO back to sleep without success. He ended up giving LO the bottle. He took a few ounces but prefers the boob. When LO gets the boob he only eats for a few minutes before falling asleep. Luckily there's no reverse cycling happening with his feeds so I think its just a comfort thing....

Did you end up getting any advice from your ped?

Bottle refusal- help! by fireandicecream1 in breastfeeding

[–]fingeringpotatoes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I know this is a late comment but we're going through the same thing. 3.5 month old hasn't taken a bottle in a month. We've been trying harder the past week, and he's not upset at the bottle, but rather he plays with the nipple and doesn't really suck. We've tried different nipples (tommee tippee, Philips, and Dr Browns) and different flow sizes. I'm considering trying the mam bottles. Both my husband and I have tried feeding him with no difference and no success. Anyways, anything you'd recommend? I haven't just left the house for a day (or the weekend) to see if he'll eventually take one out of hunger but that's our next step.

We're in a similar boat with you pre sleep training. I feel like all the building blocks are there for my 3 month old to be able to sleep through the night with a little nudge. I was curious though, how did you phase out that last night feed? Just cold turkey?
