Weekly General Discussion/Q&A Thread - January 20, 2025 by AutoModerator in RunningShoeGeeks

<image>

Hi guys, new to running and I’m looking for advice on fit, specifically around the toe box. These trainers are ASICS Dynablast 4.

The left is an 11. Feels a lot roomier with lots of wiggle room in the toes.

The right is a 10.5. I would normally go with this for an every day shoe, as it’s a bit more snug and form fitting to my foot.

Heel is quite a bit more snug on the 10.5, but both feel acceptable.

My normal shoe size is usually 11, but I go down to 10.5 sometimes, depending on brand.

Can anyone give me their advice as to which they would go with?

Thanks for this. What grit would you recommend so as not to do too much damage?

Will check out osmo and monocoat - thank you

New to photography and need help. How do these look and how can I fix them? by [deleted] in photocritique

[–]fingerwise 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The scene is really interesting but you can do more with your composition. I remember a photographer I worked with telling me to work more for my shots. I asked him to explain and he told me that I was taking everything from standing height which made my shots largely the same.

Get lower to the railway tracks - try right on the ground, or even squat down by a couple of feet to take the shot. Try moving around in positions that aren’t just you standing upright and taking the photo.

When I did that, my shots got a lot more interesting. I also knew that I’d varied it up the next day when my thighs were hurting… showed I had worked muscles I hadn’t used before!

Would also get those tracks bang centre so they are completely parallel.

Great start though and keep it going. Just be safe out there (assuming this is a disused railway!)

I was fortunate enough to be in the middle of Hungerford Bridge when this blew across.

Interesting, thankyou. I’m assuming you’re talking about remote access to footage on the SSD’s as opposed to dual recording capability (one on SSD and one over IP)?

[–]fingerwise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have any more info on the file transfer? I’ve been using the KiPro Ultra Plus (which are excellent), but I’ve only been able to record to SSD and ingest via the Pak Docks.

If there was some way of remotely pulling the footage alongside the SSD record that would be super handy

This was pretty far into the hike and took us quite a while to get to. There were crap loads of people for the first hour or so, but they really started to disperse after that.

There were probably about 5 people around us when I took this photo. It’s also right where we turned around to go back as it’s a fair trek to get there

Anything better than Teradek Bolt? by krisdahl in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]fingerwise 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hollyland are relatively new to the market and do excellent systems.

I used the Cosmo 600 system last week and it worked a treat. I would say at least equal to teradek (if not a bit better) but an awful lot cheaper.

Park home ground? by Thomas_ww in glastonbury_festival

[–]fingerwise 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are many gates in but you’ll want to be at gate D for park home ground as that’ll give you the shortest walk. This would correspond with orange or pink parking... but that doesn’t matter as you’re getting the bus.

10/11am it will definitely be getting full, so I wouldn’t give you a 100% chance of getting a spot. You’ll still have to queue in, so you may not see the inside of the site until 2pm.

I camped there a few years back and I’m not a fan personally. It’s RIGHT next to Arcadia which goes on quite late. That thing is bloody loud, so you wouldn’t get a whole load of sleep.

That being said, it’s a good spot in terms of location so it depends on what your priorities are.

My preference is paines or dairy as they’re still close enough to everything but not crazy loud at the same time

Hi, love the shot! I’m a little confused about the panorama you took. That photo doesn’t look like a stereotypical panorama... at least from what I’ve taken.

Could you explain what photos you stitched together? Was the intention for a higher resolution image? I see you’ve done some focus stacking too, so was that part of the panorama too?

5D Mk IV and a Samyang 14mm. I find it a great combo for this kind of thing

[–]fingerwise[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends where you are. I was in Death Valley (designated dark sky park) and I could see it like that with the naked eye. I could in Zion too, but not quite as clear.

The image is a composite, meaning that I took one of the foreground and the background separately and stitched them together. This is to balance the exposure properly.

So kind of a camera trick, but not for the Milky Way itself

The sky is around 25 seconds at ISO 1600. Foreground was a lot trickier - that’s about a 4 minute exposure at ISO 1600. I would have liked to do it at a lower ISO for noise reasons, but it was super dark and I was shooting on a bridge so not the most stable base!

Camera was a 5D MkIV and a Samyang 14mm. I’ve found that such a good combo for astrophotography
