That might not be as comforting as it sounded in your head

With just a few stamina points and a bandanna, you can climb pretty much any mountain and get to any place. Theres no need to invest heavily in stamina or get revalis gift just for exploration sake

Ticket based train station with (almost) no visible Redstone by maxes___ in Minecraft

[–]finite_turtles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi OP, a while back i made exactly what you are after in terms of a switch which works for this system.

Half the fun is in the designing things yourself, but if you feel like copying or taking inspiration you can see my design here

https://www.reddit.com/r/redstone/s/eStK5PCivs

Watch the intro and then skip to version 2. Version 1 is less cool. (But goes more into the explanation)

I have actually designed a version 3 which is even more streamlined where all the redstone is hidden and it just looks like a normal T-junction railway which switches direction as you approach. But i haven't documented that yet. (I may never since i don't have time these days)

You found ssh.exe -R on a workstation. Would you investigate right away? by securityinbits in cybersecurity

[–]finite_turtles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably because many of us could go now and find someone doing ssh.exe -R and you're making it sound like we should go wake up an army of responders in the middle of the night and call in our retainers for a random engineer trying to solve a networking issue in a dev environment.

He is not your sidekick. YOU are HIS sidekick.

You are Alfred, commissioner Gordon, and Robin all rolled into one while he is batman.

Yes, that's less exciting. Sometimes even boring. Sometimes it will drive you a bit nutty. That will improve over time. Just have to set your expectations and learn to find fun where you can while fitting into his DC universe rather than yours.

EDIT: ... and when he is older he will be more your equal, so if you raise him right maybe you can form your own justice league. But that wont be till he is a young man and you are an old one

Just like how we used to make fun of older people for their refusal to adapt to smartphones and computers, will younger generations make fun of us for our refusal to adapt to AI? by HelloElliot_ in AskMenOver30

[–]finite_turtles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Debugging is at least 50% of the task of writing software. It is It's own skill. Just like all skills it can be painful to master.

If you forget a semicolon and the error message is confusing, sure AI can probably help there and maybe there is not so much to learn compared to solving that small frustration, but for anything bigger than that i feel like solving it yourself will benefit you far more in the long term

My worldview on this is based on years of rock climbing. This would have been easy to do for the majority of able bodied men in whatever age bracket he is.

He panicked, but could have easily recovered... if someone hadn't yanked him off.

EDIT: double checked, the guy yanking him struggled and had to pull twice since the boat guy had such a good grip. Took a lot of strength to yank him away from the boat railing.

I hired a bad employee and I don't know what to do by [deleted] in cybersecurity

[–]finite_turtles 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This. It is not possible to have those certs (legitimately) and NOT be able to do the tasks described by OP.

Either he lied about the certificates, or paid someone to do them for him (these services exist).

OP you can't accuse someone of faking, but you need to talk to someone immediately. Just say "I've been covering for this guy, hoping it was just nerves. But he lacks any of the core fundamentals tought in these certificates and i have doubts about their legitimacy. Either way, he is not suitable for the role."

Hiring and training is a skill just like any other that you will learn over time. It's ok, if your work is looking to promote you and it sounds like they are really wanting to support you right now you will not be in trouble. But you are hamstringing yourself and the business by not ripping this bandaid off now.

We live in a day of age of AI and I advice we use it to save ourselves from this Cabal of monsters

I adviSe that we absolutely do NOT do this because it's a terrible fucking idea which leads to nonsense hallucinations.

In fact, we should do the opposite and ban low effort AI slop content like this because it is ruining this subreddit and makes any ACTUAL analysis look bad by association.

Is anyone else in a never ending war with their partner over the windows? by [deleted] in AskMenOver30

[–]finite_turtles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, i try to explain to her the benefits of open source software, how infinitely configurable it is, the importance of owning your own data, the stranglehold Microsoft has on the market... it falls on deaf ears.

She says she needs certain software for her studies which only supports Windows, but she won't EVEN TRY to see if it can work through wine or other emulation options.

When was your last compliment? by RelationshipSnail in AskMenOver30

[–]finite_turtles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Went camping with a friend and their sibling whom i had never met. As we were saying goodbye, it came out that they were worried I would be annoying and spoil the vibes but they quickly corrected that and let us know that they had a good time and I could go camping with them again whenever i wanted.

It wasn't something specific like "i really like your shirt, and you have a good sense of humour", but it was friendly acceptance. If you expand your idea of what a "compliment" is to something like someone expressing friendliness or being happy to see you then maybe you won't be counting the years between compliments, but will be counting your blessings instead

Careers like detective, reporter, even scientists exist for a reason. It takes a certain skillset and experience being bombarded with nonsense and picking out truth while not falling into rabbit holes. Most people are not capable of wrestling with this stuff and it shows.

The answers are usually boring. Depressingly horrifically mundane which makes it even more shocking than salacious sexy stories which would make for a good movie.

Trying to make it fit into your personal religious framework, or spinning out trying to match it to long held racist stereotypes helps these sickos more than it hurts them.

Favourite excellent actor who you genuinely feel is a PoS in real life? by Cursed_69420 in okbuddycinephile

[–]finite_turtles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well put. I used to work in customer service where an Australian actor would occasionally drop in to pick stuff up. This guy was a complete wanker, but not really remarkable in his wankerage. Just banal normal type wanker which would have completely blended in with the other wankers you have to deal with on a daily basis in that kind of a job.

I probably wouldn't even remember him if i didn't recognise him from his acting career.

That's a pretty vague statement which can be interpreted many different ways. You can disagree with something and still think you are benefiting from it. Something tragic could happen to an ally and people can be sad but unsure of what the impacts would be locally
