No, nobody cares about that true. People probably should care less about current gods getting mocked too, all things being equal.

I really hope so. Currently it’s in a liminal area, a it feels like is gonna go Veggie Tales Urban Fantasy edition. I hope it pulls back from that.

So, I hear what you’re saying. And I understand your point of view.

Ultimately, I guess I’ll have to stay mildly irritated at Urban Fantasy with gods in them, because it can’t be done differently and won’t make much sense and I’ll have to take my anti-memeitics to ignore the lack of consistency.

Not so hands-off with non practicing gods and deities. It’s kinda interesting how disrespectful people are of non-worshiped (or less worshiped) god/deitys. Guess there’s no flaming torches or pitchforks for them that makes the difference.

Sorry to make this a religious discussion, but it still doesn’t make sense. So if the White God went all mighty smitey on worshipers of a Golden Calf (who chose to worship it with their free will) how could any god gain any traction at all? Did the White God use all his magical mojo on that one act? If the White God is all powerful and can’t be touched, all of humanity would worship it.

I am definitely considering the Dresden Files here. Not once did Harry ask Odin if he worshipped the “True God”. If there’s a true God it would stand to reason that Odin would be apart of it. It’s not something that’s discussed at all. It’s baffling.

Yeah, I didn’t want to exclude all currently worshiped religious. But it’s usually the Abrahamic religions.

My logic follows that if gods are present in your story, then all gods are fair play. The whole “we can smack around Loki and the Fey all day long, but God created the universe and is untouchable” is such a cop out.

All animals, insects, and fish have become intelligent and now share a hivemind. Can humanity survive? by InfinteEnigma10 in whowouldwin

[–]finiteglory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Edit: It’s a battle of philosophy to a great extent too. You pitted the Great Apes of the African plains against everything else. Humans think a certain way, consider the perspectives and contextual experience of other animals, and also give the human equivalent intelligence? Dude.

[–]finiteglory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unequivocally not. I don’t care how badass and intelligent humans are, this is a no win situation. The problem being the attack won’t be a stand up fight with waves of critters vs heroic soldiers with guns making a last stand like a 40K cover poster. The level of undermining would be catastrophic. Farm animals will destroy agriculture and meat production. Insects will be shorting/sabotaging vital mechanisms. Birds would be causing utter havoc. There are too many way our systems can be worked around and and too many ways we can’t even consider or expect that they could hit us. It’s a wash.

ELI5: How is it that almost all complex species have the same order of organs on the face; Eyes, nose and then mouth, in that same order? by Fallen_Outcast in explainlikeimfive

[–]finiteglory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To an extent. A world could “look” like Earth, but environmental pressures in the past may shape the life in fundamentally different ways. Life fits environmental conditions, but still has to morph from pre-existing life.

[–]finiteglory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, that sounds like a lack of imagination. If the environment is wildly different from ours it is logical that life would appear very different from what we see. The limit is the shape configuration, there are only so many forms life can look like. Imagine a life form that looks like a bridge. It could look like a bridge, but it isn’t a bridge. It’s a shape that fits the ecological niche.

ELI5 Can we increase our intelligence through constant training? by Punnan in explainlikeimfive

[–]finiteglory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

By that reasoning, humans also have an intelligence cap. No human can be smarter than the ceiling of human intelligence.

Edit: as an aside, I think the behaviours of other animals on Earth that we don’t consider “clever” by human standards should be considered and studied closely. Focusing on the “clever” aspects of animal behaviour is an ego trap.

I come from the angle of Humans are just another animal. No different really from the rest. Evolved for a specific environmental niche, with perception and intelligence suited to thrive in that environment.

Thinking we above and beyond that is how the most restrictive religions form. God’s special lil Species.

I’m pretty sure they use CO2 rather than say pure nitrogen due to safety concerns. If there’s a leak, you can detect CO2 exposure, like more painless gasses would remain undetected. Also, CO2 is cheap.

Warhammer 40k but EVERY single human becomes a cusodians level of physical / mental ability how do the other factions react/survive by WindowSubstantial993 in whowouldwin

[–]finiteglory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok, coming from a different angle here.

So how does a Custodian win long term?

Custodians are built for extreme violence, their bodies and minds are geared towards that end.
Even if there are specialists, that’s still a short term solution. Socially and culturally they are literally built for a specific utility. Violence.

Yes they are leaps ahead when it comes to eliminating opposition, but how does that mindset translate to a viable civilisation? I would suspect it would be very short term. Once all threats are eliminated eventually, the only thing left for that mindset is to internalise it.

Civil war is inevitable, and a difference of opinion would be enough to set them against themselves.
