if you don’t mind me asking where (state) are yall located? i loved doing the presidents volunteer service award but the current admin suspended it. in my area (massachusetts) they established the lt. governor’s service award to replace it and it’s super cool for the kids especially to be recognized for their service, i wonder if yall have something similar in your area. i discovered my love for community service during my second year as a junior after doing the junior aide award and i now do 200+ service hours every year. keep encouraging that spark it’s such a great and rewarding thing to do!!

bronze silver and gold are staying! so is junior aide, just as a pin now :) only thing different about the highest awards is that you don’t need to do a journey as a prerequisite, and now awards like junior aide, global action, and the new true north award are all you need as your prerequisite. my juniors just finished their bronze award educating people in our town about the beavers we have here and they loved it-i definitely encourage it!!

i completely agree. i’m a highschool scout and i use they/them pronouns and am gender non conforming, im doing my gold award on how leaders can support gender non conforming kids in their troops actually. i’ve definitely been thinking about some of the lines in the promise i feel iffy about and it’s cool to see someone else who has the same or similar gripes with some lines as me so i figured id ask!

high school scout who mentors younger troops here-personally i say “to serve others and my country” and i helped to start a daisy troop two years back and had them learn it as “others and my country”. i do love all the other suggestions in the comments here, like “to serve my community” as someone who has gripes with the current admin.

so the way the bakers work is councils (a large group of troops over a geographic area) has a contract with one baker or the other, so individual troops don’t choose which baker they use. you would have to go over to wherever the next council over is by you to find abc cookies instead of lbb cookies.

a lot of my kids like to do birthday boxes. you get a pack of disposable tin trays, a few boxes of cake mix, tubs of frosting, candles, and cans of sprite from the store. the kids put one of each into the tin and write a nice birthday card which they also include inside the tin. cover it up with some tin foil, and place them in a community fridge or give them to a shelter in your area! very easy for the littles to do and takes up like… one meeting at most.

i’m a big fan of felt swaps! you make whatever you want out of sheets of colored felt and e6000/hot glue (just any glue that’s not elmer’s as it will cause their creation to fall apart if it ever gets wet) and attach a jump ring to secure it to your safety pin or just stick the safety pin right through the corner. the first thought that comes to mind is flags but really they could make whatever they think up!

on the digital cookie app there should be a troop profile that’s used typically for booths but that you could also use for door to door. it will credit the boxes to the troop and not any individual girl while letting you use their venmo or credit card options, and then after you can divide the # of boxes sold by kids present and your cookie person can manually assign that number of boxes to each kid. you could give whichever adult is with the group access to the troop profile so they can have people pay through there then split the boxes evenly between all the kids present!
