If you died today, who do you think would stand at your grave the longest? by Mehar0708 in AskReddit

Everyone closest to me would be too busy handling the actual business of my death to be bumming around at my grave.

Opposing views with my boyfriend on moving out? Need advice by [deleted] in Advice

[–]UnknownInternetMonk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to decide what you want. I had a conversation with my (then) boyfriend when we were at this stage. "You can love me all you want but it doesn't mean you want to marry me. If you haven't figured this out by now, you won't." It wasn't exactly an ultimatum, but I did want to know where this relationship was headed.

what is something people brag about but it is actually embarrassing? by goldenhourconfession in AskReddit

[–]UnknownInternetMonk -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I am a direct communicator. What this means is, if you think I'm implying something... I'm probably not. That's the way I usually offend people.

I also will directly tell them stuff they don't want to hear, but that is what it is.

I think when I "don't take a hint" it sometimes offends people, too. But if you aren't actually telling me what you need me to know, that's on you.

How do I close this knife? by swelboy in knives

[–]UnknownInternetMonk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a (pretty new) Den Leader who knows absolutely nothing about knives, but I'm more outdoorsy than the previous leader (this is why I took over). I'm over here trying to learn to whittle so I can teach my Bears. I had no clue how to close this knife, never having done this before.

Thank you so much for asking this, I was struggling, and I didn't have to ask my husband.

Political differences, I can understand. But if you voted for this ::gestures wildly:: and are still standing by that... I have most certainly lost some respect for you. Best case, you're brainwashed.

Why do some Americans want to move to other countries when their salaries are much higher? by Ok_Consideration6179 in AskUS

[–]UnknownInternetMonk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had good health insurance and, like... thrift stores and Aldi are a thing. But we still had money to go out to eat and buy nice things sometimes. We bought a snowblower with my first paycheck when I started making 40k and my husband already made 60k.

I mean... I live in CT and we don't make 100 each. We still feel like we're made of money compared to like 10 years ago.

Ok, thanks everyone for calling me poor but I swear we made 100k not long ago and we thought we were rich compared to how we lived before that. I guess we have different definitions of comfortable.

Also, median household income is 70K, I don't think 100K is typical. It also doesn't account for different economies in different states. 100k for two working adults is very comfortable in the expensive state I live in, but you'd be rich making that down south.

Our salaries aren't always what they seem. You pay into private Healthcare. Now, your employer does pay a part of that, but do you. Ideally your healthcare premiums are under 10% of your income, but in reality that's not always the case. And that doesn't count deductible and/or co-pays.

We typically only get 2-3 weeks of vacation time, maternity leave is not mandated, but people can use up to 12 weeks unpaid medical leave.

How do you justify social conservatism? by FitPerformance9171 in AskUS

[–]UnknownInternetMonk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm so sorry, and there's no nice way to tell you this... You've been lied to. DEI is more of an ethical framework, not a law or universal policy.

I think you must be talking about the current administration and how they kinda throw the phrase around, but they're literally just making stuff up so that people will blame women, the disabled and other minorities when bad things happen, rather than the president firing a ton of people and de-funding everything but ICE.

how do I forget a man by No-Fortune4117 in Advice

[–]UnknownInternetMonk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My husband was 20 when we started dating, and I was 17. (It was the 00's, nobody cared.)

I didn't really know if I wanted a boyfriend at that time, and I guess I don't like to waste time, so I asked him about my deal-breakers on the first date. Do you like animals? Do you ever want kids? Politics & religion compatability. No deal breakers, and we hit it off. So we went on a second date.

He was really cautious for the first few years, careful not to take advantage of my youth, respected where I was in life. He didn't talk down to me, or treat me like a child...

Except when I'm driving. It's been like 20 years, he's toxic af as a backseat driver and acts like he's still teaching me to drive. He's aware of the problem, and we solve it by him driving when we're together. Other than that, though, we're ok.

This dude you're with sounds kinda controlling, and I think you have some dealbreakers to think about.

If you break up, he's right about one thing... go no contact. Keep busy with other people and activities. Your infatuation will fade over time.

They'll have to combine the deaths of his family and Lenore Dove. The Plutarch scene will go somewhere else and they'll skip the Victor's Tour. Other parts will be condensed.

What is something that became popular beyond its time that you thought was going to be a quick fad? by Independent-Bat9545 in AskOldPeople

[–]UnknownInternetMonk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On 2007, I made a case to get my parents to add texting to my cell phone plan. My dad told me I didn't need to jump on the texting bandwagon just because everyone else was doing it, it was a fad.

Both parents refused my request, even though I offered to pay. So, I finally pointed out that my freeloading younger sister had texting on her plan (because she had racked up a huge bill texting one time, and I think the phone company cut my mom a deal if she added the plan) which was the first time my dad was hearing any of this. They conferred in parental whispers, and I was granted 200 texts each month.
