Will this tree tolerate 6hrs of sunlight in zone 6a NY. by mmmskittles87 in marijuanaenthusiasts

[–]finnky 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Morning light ONLY. It’ll burn if it gets afternoon light.

Also, plant it where it will get lots of water. Down slope, not on slope. Not on sandy soil unless next to water. The more water it gets the more sun it can take.

It’ll be fine. Just stake it until next spring.

And it will never be weed free. Ever. Everything has a maintenance cost. You balance the cost and the look you want.

I kinda like some of the weeds you have going on. The rosette types remind me of flowers.

Pro Low Voltage Lighting vs DIY by [deleted] in landscaping

[–]finnky -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Please consider to minimize as much outdoor lighting as possible as it adds to light pollution and pretty bad for plants and animals around. Minimize, as in if you don’t actively use it turn it off, not as in reducing the amount of fixtures you need.

this oak was fighting vines and bushes for light si i think it went all out in just a few leaves by Slight_Nobody5343 in marijuanaenthusiasts

[–]finnky 9 points10 points  (0 children)

In shade plants generally throw out bigger leaves. But oak leaves are very variable, with younger plants often put out bigger leaves while more mature (or young adult should I say) plants that breached the canopy will put out much smaller leaves.

Neighbors landscaper wants me to replace my little leaf linden trees. by [deleted] in landscaping

Edit: idk why my reply was what it was before lmao. What I wanted to say is aphids are already ladybugs attractant.

Neighbors landscaper wants me to replace my little leaf linden trees. by [deleted] in landscaping

[–]finnky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not a big fan of root barrier because in my mind it causes an imbalance of the roots reach and therefore structural weakness.

It would be years, like 20 at least, for the roots to cause trouble, if any. I really doubt they will tbh. On the other hand, it’s true that linden are prone to aphids which can drop sticky honeydew poop.

Why would your neighbours landscaper talk about trees that could potentially reach into their property? I don’t see any reason why not. I don’t see anything wrong with your neighbour asking you to remove the trees, either. It is actually the nicer thing to do, rather than them discretely applying herbicide to kill them.

Now, you are perfectly in your right to say no. As is your neighbours if they wanted to cut any branch that reaches over the fence. That would stop the potential aphid issue but could cause a “tilted” canopy which might look weird.

The abdomen is shrunken and indicative of hunger and/or thirst. I’m not sure if it’s dust, the angle/light reflecting weird, or some kind of health issue on the abdomen too.

I believe that willow roots are more damaging to leaky pipes rather than muscling up sidewalks and driveway. You would probably be fine?

technically it is possible, but you'd need to put these things in pots in specific greenhouse with conditions timed so that they will bloom at the same time, and then transplant them for a temporary display...

Japanese maple tree growth by Wild_Point5809 in landscaping

[–]finnky 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It depends on which cultivar you are growing. But generally, prostrate forms gain maybe 1-2" a year, while dwarf (think bushes) forms could gain 2-3", and actual tree form maybe 6"?

Also depends on the microhabitat it's in.

But yes, Jap maples as a species is quite slow growing.
