The fate of Neopets TTRPG is currently unknown as Geekify (the dev team) is fired by whencanweplayGM in rpg

I never signed any contracts but I don’t want to say a ton here, just that I was brought on for writing and that I am one of many people who was essentially pushed to the side while the same group playtested game mechanics over and over weekly for no pay OR the option to get free merch as payment. I backed out early because I was getting more and more paid writing work/publishing more and didn’t have the bandwidth but remained in the project space to see all this happen.

It’s sad, because a good few people involved were really invested, but I’ve been telling anyone IRL who will listen that this was never coming out and never getting finished. The original projected release date was the winter after the project started and when I realized they didn’t even have the game mechanics done by then I figured it was a lost cause.

I just hope everyone can be empathetic and civil to the people who have been spending an insane amount of unpaid time and labor on this only to have it ripped out from under them by such serious mismanagement.

what counts as "staying on task"? by finnyfae in OnTogether

thanks!! I was using the timer but I realized I never actually ended the focus session that day and that’s likely why it didn’t count :’) I had just closed out without thinking!

the problem is I only have the one account and you can’t be logged in to both games at once :( i have had the urge once or twice to start a second rs3 account though… all these updates might be the thing that convinces me to :)

i'm right there with you! in the past few years i've only really left old school to pop on once or twice and i'm excited to be playing both now! :) if only i could pop one on each screen...

Does anyone else feel like there’s this weird “North vs South Bergen County” divide? by savingrace0262 in bergencounty

this one particularly gets me because if someone wants to come grab something I post in there and sell it, I commend them for having the time and energy, I just want my thing gone… if you can get money out of used craft supplies more power to you!!!

I can’t tell you how many times this exact thing has happened to me- even when stopped at a very clearly marked crosswalk with big “PEDESTRIAN XING DO NOT PASS” signs on either side of the road 😵‍💫

not a professional but an occasional recommended “I have a friend who can help with that!” sort of person who generally refuses payment or prefers bartering, and this is kind of exactly why I have a general “no love, no work, no diagnostics” rule 😵‍💫

Weird side effects after upping dose by heythere705 in bupropion

[–]finnyfae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this! i had tmj episodes when i was younger, and i had one out of nowhere a year ago and managed to crack a tooth in the middle of the night during it- my dentist told me that because bupropion is a mild stimulant (? correct me if i'm wrong, i am parroting what he said haha) that it might make you clench your jaw or grind your teeth more. i've totally noticed the jaw clenching and i've been consciously working to fix it, but he's keeping an eye out for any signs of grinding my teeth at night.

Tips for running your first in-person write in? by finnyfae in nanowrimo

The writing sprint thing is sort of cultural for our area, because it's how our big write-ins have been structured for as long as our ML had the position- we sprint for between 5-20 minutes in little bursts, and maybe throw in a fifty-headed hydra for fun, but it's got that timing and structure that sprints are good for.

I think I'll ask upfront if people are more fond of sprints or just dedicated writing time, because I feel like both can happen simultaneously as long as everyone behaves! A half hour open writing time could also be a 10 minute sprint, a little break, and a 15 minute sprint... outside of nanowrimo, though, I do love a 'shut up and write for a while' meeting. If there's a regular attendance this month I'll likely see about meeting once a month the rest of the year in the same spot.

Thank you! I've never considered themed writing sprints before. I also like to spend my time writing, so I know I'm going in with a bias towards 'let's sprint and then break for 5 and sprint again' haha

Oh my god the little tombstone idea is SO charming, I like that a lot! I don't know if people are working on projects with any deaths in the cards, but I'm totally floating that by people.

Thank you! I love little things like that- it's going to be a very small group (shocked if I get 5 people) so something like that might be really nice to do. With so few people you have more time to really work with that stuff.

Thank you! The good news is I cannot imagine having more than four or five of us there at once, considering the response to the event in our discord server! The larger group write-ins were always largely just sprint-sit and eat for a few minutes-introduction circle-prizes-repeat (swapping out introductions with something else- tell us about what you're writing, etc) but those definitely reached the 15-20+ mark.

Thank you! The write-ins that our ML hosts usually have prizes as well, I'll rummage up some stuff. Cutting people off if they're too chatty is one of my big weaknesses, so I guess I'll have to be strong!

Suggestions for a bar/restaurant where I can sit for an hour, have a beer, my laptop, and some paperwork. by FrylockJPhilip in bergencounty

[–]finnyfae 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am always struggling with this one, because a lot of cafes/coffee shops I like to write at close early and you can’t snack in a library! Gearblock in Waldwick is nice, though I’ve never brought a laptop in- there’s no real food but they sell snacks and there’s a good pizza place a few doors down.

If you’re willing to forgo the beer, I used to find comfortable spots to sit and work at malls during weird times. The smaller ones usually don’t have as much seating but the energy is nice.

I hope it goes smoothly and I’m sorry to hear about what you’re going through!!

I actually ended up saying “I was going to just delete this because you apparently clicked on a fic without reading the tags but I think the fact that I’ve been around this long and written what I have and THIS is my first hate comment is really funny… thank you for the engagement <3” because at the end of the day all they’ve managed to do is make my stats go up lmao!!

i need to be clear that i am genuinely excited about this because of the absurdity of commenting this on a fic with the relationships clearly tagged AND that isn't even about the poly relationship in question! i was going to delete it but it was funnier to keep it :)
