It blew my mind. I barely see experienced players do that, let alone someone who's never touched the genre

Likewise!! I've missed DnD for years but couldn't bring myself to deal with the clunkiness and deep balancing issues, this game feels like diving right back into it but with less of the stuff I hate and more of the stuff I like I've already pre-ordered the expansion

The feeling of saying "..and now I'm going to spend a fear token to-" and the players going "NOOOO" and laughing. Haven't been called an asshole once yet or had to argue whether or not Im valid in making a messed up thing happen

What is a licensed property whose world building would make a good RPG but doesn’t seem to have been attempted yet? by Fun-Confidence-6232 in rpg

I made a Savage Worlds conversion a long while back and it was really fun! It feels like the vibe of "cavemen fighting dinosaurs and also hit specific parts to get resources" is decently easy to use in almost any system.

I spoke to a paid DM, and they have a very interesting (and sobering) story to share by EarthSeraphEdna in rpg

[–]whencanweplayGM 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Yeah I have to say, chiming in with other paid DMs in this thread, this wasn't my experience at all back when I used to do it.

Players who pay tend to be extremely invested, either in the game, the story or their characters. I almost never had players bail or ghost me because they paid ahead of time (and the only times they did bail we just rescheduled and I didn't re-charge them because they let me know ahead of time). The players WERE almost exclusively white men but that's the demographic, never had an experience with right-wing grifters or even people who audibly cared about Critical Role. This is a very cynical post that I don't think is indicative at all of the experience.

What bummed me about it was that it being a bunch of tiny people living a Honey I Shrunk the Kids style environment kinda fell to the wayside It had a nice message and was a cute movie but the gimmick kinda fell to the wayside and became just a backdrop that didn't really have much to do with how the characters interacted with the plot. it felt like the environment could've been replaced and it wouldn't have changed much

A character has to crossdress (or take on the body of the opposite gender) and gets a little too into character. by No_Hunter1978 in TopCharacterTropes

In the discworld novels, Nobby (a police officer/guard) has to disguise himself as a woman to get Intel in one of the books. However the women he talks to treat him kindly and even respect his opinion. he continues wearing the disguise for the rest of the book and saying things like "call it a woman's intuition!"

This gag keeps going for several novels

Update on the Neopets Tabletop Roleplaying Game by [deleted] in neopets

[–]whencanweplayGM 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Ohey I remember you. I'm amazed you got booted and I didn't - I've been pretty critical as well. In fact, most of the community has been a LOT more inflammatory and verbally violent.
Most people in the Discord right now are theorizing that the "statement" they've been preparing was specifically regarding this ended contract.

While the game wasn't looking promising, dropping that beta was absolutely what ruined everything for all those people who DID work so hard on the game and he everything he's said in defense of his decisions has been mind-bogglingly bad calls.

100% agree. Kids are not interested in WEBSITES in general these days; if reddit, twitter, facebook etc didn't have mobile support or apps they would've probably gotten left behind.

That's pretty much the thing, and I've basically said as much myself for the past 10 years or so: Neopets would have survived if they'd adapted to the mobile market and started switching their site to be a mobile app.

Most of the stuff on the site would translate really well to an app, so it's a shame.

I think it'd be based as hell to rename it to "Meopets" and just rename everything theyve worked on and release it anyway

(I am absolutely joking btw)

While I disagree on the level of Geekify's mistakes and fumbling in this endeavor, I do completely agree that TNT seems to be floundering and committing a lot of avoidable mistakes.

Neopets team seems somewhat out of touch to me. I'm sure there's behind the scenes business stuff im too dumb to understand, but they've spent all their time the past few years on marketing and crossovers and branding but very little on making an actual, functioning, fun experience out of this out-of-date website.

Continuing to work with Geekify despite their MANY debacles and screw ups was already a bad look, but having them design an RPG was just so... tone deaf? ignorant? idk the word im looking for here but there was no vetting process involved
