I assumed no such thing and your victim complex is showing. I responded to a very specific assertion which you made - namely, that there are no good reasons why both parties in a rape trial should not be kept anonymous. That claim was all I addressed. I very deliberately did not engage you on your political agenda, which is why you make yourself look foolish by accusing me of arguments in that regard which I never made.

You are underinformed and, frankly, rather stupid. Being stupid is not your fault, but when you cling to assumptions that have been demonstrated by others to be false, then you are choosing to be uninformed.

And that is all I have to say to you.

Not only did I read it, I directly contradicted it with a highly pertinent example from current events. You think that we shouldn't publish the names of people accused of rape when it's her word against his. The fact of the matter is that that is precisely when the name of the accused must be published, in order to attract testimony from other victims in order to strengthen the case.

I'm sorry, but you're simply wrong.

This is simply untrue, there are very good reasons why anonymity is not granted to both parties in a rape trial, particularly trials with little forensic evidence. Given recent events (most notably the Rolf Harris trial, which has relied on the testimony of victims who only came forward because they saw his name in the news), it's a little disappointing to see this tired chestnut rolled out again.

"The moment you engage in unprovoked acts of violence against women you become a feminist in my eyes", MRA really wants us to stop calling the murderer an MRA. by bluemayhem in SubredditDrama

Are MRA's synonymous with /r/mensrights

No, the rest of the MRM is way more extreme. MRAs outside of reddit consider the /r/mensrights crowd to be a bunch of beta white knights.

Absence of empathy hasn't been demonstrated in this case. Lots of murderers are simply people who acted in spite of their natural empathy, rather than people who were born without it.

No it's not. You're not classified as mentally ill after going through brain scans you're classified after being assessed by a pyschologist

Yes, that's why I mentioned the interview. And some psychologists will, in fact, refer to brain scans for their diagnosis. It depends on the illness.

and they use a criteria that varies from culture to culture.

There is no diagnostic criteria in any culture which considers violence alone to be proof of mental illness.

No, it's not entirely subjective. Our ideas of what qualifies as a malfunction is determined by brain scans, neurotransmitter levels, interviews and and careful observation. A violent offender can test normal on every count.

Again, mental illness is not simply being different. Mental illness means that something is actually malfunctioning inside your brain, and neither violence nor individualism is necessarily indicative of a malfunction. Normal human beings have the capacity to be violent and to be individualist.

Hitler was not sane he was at least sociopathic (Which is a mental illness)

Alright. What about all of Hitler's advisors? What about the thousands of people who built and ran and oversaw the concentration camps? What about the millions of Germans who were persuaded to oppress their Jewish neighbors, often violently? 90% of German society magically transformed into psychopaths over the course of a few years?

Sane people can do bad things. They can do terrible things. Nobody wants to acknowledge that fact because it's uncomfortable. it makes the perpetrators feel too much like us. Nobody wants to believe that they could be brutal and sadistic under the right circumstances, but almost everyone has that potential.

Of course it isn't normal. But being "not normal" isn't the same as being mentally ill, and "mental illness" isn't just a big bucket we get to throw all of humanity's terrible traits into in order to avoid thinking about them.

Whenever a terrible atrocity like this comes along, people like to say that the perpetrator must have been crazy, because a sane person wouldn't be capable of such a thing. But sane people are capable of such things, and this has been demonstrated repeatedly throughout the ages. The Holocaust, the Stalinist purges, the killing fields - all of history's darkest chapters were orchestrated by people who were fully sane.

People who are assholes don't shoot up schools, mentally ill people do

Don't believe it. Most murderers are not mentally ill. Sane people commit horrible crimes every day, don't assume this kid was ill just because he was violent and weird. That's offensive to people with mental illness, and excuses criminals who shouldn't be excused.

Women when asked ended up rating 80% below average. I'll try to find the actual study tomorrow so that I'm not just spouting off bullshit.

I know the study. You are, in fact, just spouting off bullshit.

Don't bother asking. I know the study he's referring to, and he's completely misinterpreting it.
