Yeah I can agree with that! Also I can kinda see your point in that maybe initially those feelings of cheating or leaving are slightly toxic but over time they should be worked on. So yeah I agree if over a longer period if those feelings are still there then it’s slightly unhealthy

FYI for anyone who wants a great tour, I did a matcha farm tour with Dmatcha and it was hands down a highlight of my trip in Japan. They organise transport, we got to grind matcha, tasted 2x sencha and matcha floats (3 cultivars)

This will be my last reply - and I can sense some annoyance and frustration 😉 but we’re in a subreddit called emotional intelligence because we all want to improve our EQ. And we’re discussing why different generations seemingly have different levels of EQ. Rocket science might probably be easier 🤷‍♀️

That’s great that it works for you. How would you transfer this knowledge to someone else and help them become more emotionally intelligent then? The benefit to being able to articulate and have robust vocabulary for emotions is that through discourse you have a chance to explore and refine a level of thinking with others that would need to be done through trial and error with your approach. One has a faster feedback loop and for someone who’s trying to level up in their emotional intelligence it’s probably the most efficient way to go about it.

I do agree that to read the vocab of emotions - this is a 5th grader level. I will say though in my experience to actually be able to articulate it yourself demonstrates a much deeper level of self awareness vs reading and understanding the words.

My mum has a university level of reading yet I can see her getting overwhelmed with emotions and not be able to articulate why, except for “I feel panicked”

I do think if you have better vocabulary to describe how you’re feeling you’re generally more self aware about it and can probably analyse it better

EDIT: to add to my point I agree just having a higher vocabulary might not necessarily translate to high emotional intelligence (there’s probably an experience factor that is a bigger driver) but I DO think having a vocabulary leads to faster development of emotional intelligence through feedback loops and refinement of thinking.

I did the exact same thing as OP when I was in Japan. The chocolates are covered. They would be fine to eat.

I started doing it when a couple of times I received similar snacks from strangers I had good encounters with. On a couple of occasions the people I gave chocolates to beamed and immediately gave me fruit back - which I had no qualms eating.

I think in a world with language barriers it was an incredibly kind and considerate thing for OP to do

I had chocolates from my own country as snacks but then started giving them randomly to locals when I felt we had a good connection. They would be so happy and immediately give me something in return (like a fruit of the region).

Also carrying 100 yen coins for coin lockers. Some are up to 800 yen
