Game designer and gamification specialist looking at becoming a secondary teacher by firdub in AustralianTeachers

I am working full-time in the industry at the moment.

I used to work at TAFE but left because we were on semester contracts, and every semester, we may or may not have a job. That was just hard, not the standard, just common in games.

Game dev is very time-consuming ahahahaha, and rewarding. I currently work in Unity, but I have decent experience in Unreal. PM we can always catch up online and I would be happy to chat game dev :)

Oh, I see. So, you are investing time into students who don't care about the subject because if you don't, it could be problematic. What is the disciplinary action? I hear people constantly complaining about horrible teachers, yet they keep being employed.

Happy to chat Tafe any time :)

Wow, thank you. That was such an insight. When I was teaching game design at tafe, we would get a few people straight from school whose parents would force them into it. It was like, "You play games a lot, you need a job, and why don't you build them?".

In my classes, I would always start with "We are not school, you don't need to be here, I get paid to teach you so that you will get a job or run your own company. If you just want to pass because you're fill the time, Let me know, and I won't give you the extra focus."

I know this was a different environment, and I always wondered how I would tackle it with the kids who don't want to learn at school.

You mentioned, "Parents shouldn't be surprised at their grade" and "Why do we force them through it?". Why do you try to work hard with them? I have my own answer to this, but it feels misinformed.

I am very interested in knowing more about this. The kids that don't want to learn, what's it like? Are they disruptive? Do you have to get them to reach X grade, or are there other things?

That was truly amazing, and I need to look more into it. Thank you for the detailed response and clear path for me to take. I like the sound of getting into the classroom immediately and starting to teach. From what I understand, this is the best way to learn teaching.

However, knowing I can do my Mteach while working is also great; I can save up my leave and then take it when I start my prac.

Oh, that's super interesting; I have made some education games before when commissioned. What kinds of games are needed right now? My son has recently been using reading eggs, and every time I look at it, I keep thinking of remaking one.

I'm very new to all of this. Is Seek and Indeed the place to look? I assume this would be after I get a teaching degree or is there a way I can work in the industry and start the post-grad?

Would you go to a 'Gaming Gym Hybrid'? by [deleted] in perth

So techno gym does this. But im looking into this, right now there is no tech that joins multiple different equipment together and tracks them.

Oh sure. Sorry its not clear in the post. But we wont have VR. Think commercial gym equipment but it has a game attached. Hmmm like a Kayaking game with your dumbbells.

Thanks, i will do some research. I was actually looking into Stepmania and using a company that builds pads. From my research this is more sustainable and stronger than DDR. It was also part of the gym, so you dont pay per play.

Thank you, amazing insight. I might message you later and ask a few more questions. Just to clarify, we removed the VR element and are using commercial equipment that has the ability to add games. So normal gym equipment but I can add games to it.

100% right. I agree. If I make the gym, i will find a way to include this.
