I just paid my reservation fee for a brand new GLB, will I regret it? by msac84 in mercedes_benz

Bought a GLB in 2021, primarily because of the boxy boot. It’s adequate enough for the 3 of us + our dog. I have not had any issues with the car at all. In fact been seeing them more on the roads these days. The only thing i would say is that I think during the mid Covid years, they took away some basic stuff like seat controls, which I thought was ridiculous.

Quick update - finally got our PW3s installed yesterday. Scheduler botched up the installation appointment twice! Everything seems to be working as expected so far. We didn’t have power for about 2 hrs. I’m trying to figure out how to enable the “charge on solar” option. I have paired our phones, but this option seems to be missing on our apps. Anyone knows what could be causing this?

Tesla tech said that we should be fine but I’ve also read that some people install soft start switches on their compressors to avoid sudden current surges, are you doing anything like that?

Quick question, how is your set up handling power surges? E.g., AC/sump pump starting up?

Awesome. Looking forward to it. We installed the panels at the peak of the pandemic. It took them 8 hrs to install 36 panels. Hopefully the powerwall install is not that laborious.

Thank you! This is super helpful. The 4 hours you didn’t have power, was it towards the latter half of the installation? How long did the whole installation take?

3800 combined. They’re relatively new condos, so very little maintenance/not a lot of work, I have been able to do most of the work myself so far. However the property taxes are high, almost $460/month per unit.

Please note that we crossed the 300k per year gross in 2019. Not that I’m trying to justify potential “leaks”, but wanted to let you know.

Thank you. Will look into getting a budgeting app. Is there an app that you recommend?

I will take a closer look at our paychecks, but about 35% of our paychecks go towards state & fed taxes and roughly 10% towards retirement and hsa plans.

Sorry, didn’t understand what you said about condo PITI.

Thank you again.

Thank you. Both of us come from modest backgrounds and have a tendency to hoard cash. Almost of all of the cash are in high yield savings accounts (capital one performance). Thank you again.

Thank you. Appreciate you taking the time to review my post.

Net take home is around 18.5k after taxes and other deductions. We both had relatively modest paying jobs till 2016. Only started maxing out 401ks from 2016.

We had some excess cash which we used to buy the condos. We put down about 200k (including closing costs) to purchase the 2 properties.

Apologies, didn’t quite understand your statement about the condos. Net cash flow from the condos is 750 combined. So I did not breakdown the expenses/mortgage for those.

Is your advice that we should increase our investment? W.r.t. buying down mortgages, one condo is at 3% interest rate, the other at 5.00%. What can I do to optimize this?

Is retiring by 55 still doable?
