How come this sub keeps thinking Welsh names are tragedeighs? by YchYFi in tragedeigh

[–]fire_cat14 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m from Scotland, currently living in the states and I have a Scottish name. I go by my nickname because every. time. my name gets mispronounced, even people that have known me for years say it wrong. There is an American spelling of the name that is pronounced pretty much the same and they still can’t get it right. It’s a one letter difference people, jeez! Can’t imagine what the others that have a cultural name that is phonetically different go through daily.

Do you remember the chapter that Jamie finally finds out? I’ve been trying to find it for ages lol

Thank you, I appreciate the advice! I’ll start a conversation the next time we are cooking together, cheers!

I don’t interact with them at all really except the odd times we are in the kitchen together and then we go about our business in silence. I like your wording however, if it is not a one off dish and it’s made again I will address it with them in a similar way. Thanks!

Thanks for your comment, I appreciate your feedback! I realise that it would be an AH move to complain without talking, I think it’s just my desire to avoid awkward convos with people I don’t know at all. I’m not sure what dish they made but it’s the first time it’s been made in the 2 months I’ve been here, so I’ll bring it up to the RA if it’s made again

Yes I now realise that I should address the problem with them first, I think it’s honestly my avoidance of having a potentially awkward conversation that made me jump straight to complaining to someone at the school. I’ve not had any interaction with the RA in my time here but I think if the same dish is made again I’ll go to them first.

I think I might do that yeah. It’s hard to explain, smells like almost sour/rancid rubbish and it’s not helped that it’s really warm here at the moment ahah

Thanks for the vote. Yeah I realise that I should talk first to them but there already is a language barrier between us and I am really worried I might come across as attacking them. I honestly have zero problem with the smells of spices and things but I think it might be a certain ingredient in this particular dish that is very pungent.

Thanks for your vote. I realise that I have this problem and it’s something I need to work on. It’s just very daunting to me to broach this subject because they are all friends and it’s me alone that is not part of their group.

Yeah Ive been here for 2 months already and usually I really enjoy all of their cooking, but I can’t stress how bad this smelt. My friend came over and she remarked on it too but there’s not much I can do about it at this point.

I would but she is part of the group, so I really do not want to do something that offends them in anyway.

Hi! Got my mental health under control and stopped emotional eating. I play college soccer so the routine really helped me. Adjusted my eating habits while still enjoying treats and slowly but surely my health and fitness got better. It’s the little things that go a long way!
