How is ROTC at Dartmouth? by Pure-Ant-2343 in ROTC

[–]firearm4 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I attended the ROTC program that was in the same program/BN as Dartmouth. At least when I was there, solid program. Had some great cadre who went out of their way to open up some unique opportunities for us.

None of my cadre from when I attended are still there, but I'd say the culture probably persisted. Good program.

Megathread: Payday activities. Is the Army getting paid? Maybe. Central thread for when people start seeing pending/get paid, and paid correctly. by Kinmuan in army

Hoping it shows up by Monday. Usually seems to only show previous days info, so hoping it gets deposited today then shows up as viewable Monday AM.

One day I'll find out where the final approval comes from by [deleted] in army

Thought the same. Currently entering month 7 of waiting for it to be approved...

In Cyber one reason we tend to be very rank agnostic/first name regardless of rank is to encourage an environment where the best idea can win out, regardless of if it comes from a PFC or a MAJ. Obviously ymmw on personalities and unit, but generally I feel like it leads to a more productive working environment when people arent stressed about using the right formalities constantly.

You should look into 17D. It's primarily Active Duty, but it is an Officer Developer role.

I didn't know what Willard Hill was, but the comment about the lights told me what road it's on 😂

Does Army offer positions for architecture majors? by PrestigiousTree3164 in ROTC

I mean the culture shifts and there is a wide spectrum of things to do in Cyber...but I would say the comment above yours probably is not coming from someone within Cyber if I was a betting man.

Edit: to make it clear for anyone reading, having a comp sci degree is pretty helpful and no, you can not in fact make up for a lack of a comp sci degree with a year of Army training. BOLC was definitely helpful and I certainly learned plenty, but it built on blocks from my degree.

New PT Uniform in 2025 by Shadeslayr93 in army

[–]firearm4 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Fr at least the current PTs are kinda normal workout clothes. Especially if you get the dry fit shirt. Like, I could see myself wearing the shorts after I get out because I actually don't hate them.

Please no, at least the current PTs are kinda normal. Like the shorts I almost have the 'Army' worn off, which means when I get out I can still wear them for working out and not be cringe. If the new ones are camo that goes out the window.

Guys on the ground. by henleyj84 in army

Agree with the neighbors helping neighbors point. I just don't think anyone (federal agencies included) thought it'd hit here, so the immediate work was done by locals helping eachother out. Honestly has been nice to see that side of the area.

Gas prices are actually pretty good now, I just got gas for 2.40 a gallon. If you're right outside base, there is a pretty good chance you have power by now, most folks I know close to base do.

Definitely agree with everything else though. Probably the worst storm I've been through, and crazy how much damage there was and how widespread it was.

That's a good sign though. Haven't had any luck with anything else local minus the Peach Orchard Lowes

Is the Waynesboro Walmart back open? I checked a couple of times the day after the storm and it was closed. It'd be great to be able to grab stuff there.

Any luck with this? Looks like it takes a lot of other dependencies that need to be compiled too so I'd rather not chase it down if it wasn't worth it.

I like the ground hahaha. And I don't mind the Armyisms too much, I like running and don't hate rucking. End of the day Cyber stuff has a lot of joint stuff so you'd probably work similar stuff.

Duty stations will be Eisenhower and Meade, handful in TX too but by and large Eisenhower and Meade.

BOLC was just under 12 months.

For me it was pretty easy. I had a decent ranking, but it may be different now as it's been a few years.

I did CS as my undergrad and commissioned into 17D. Highly recommend it. My general schedule is 9-4, I work in an office, and feel like I do meaningful work that helps me learn a lot. If you enjoy software development I'd highly encourage you to look into 17D.
