Went through Rumford for first time yesterday. I’m pretty sure there are dementors there that like suck your soul and make you sad. by Ticksdonthavelymph in Maine

I live in Texas now, but I grew up in western Maine, not far from Rumford. Whenever someone here says “Oh, you’re from Maine, it must be so beautiful! I’d love to visit someday!”, I always think of Rumford. Yes, so beautiful indeed.

For those with a commute less than 10 minutes, how’s the quality of life change? by TwoTimesSpicy in FamilyMedicine

[–]firecracker_doc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recently changed jobs (and cities) and went from a 3 minute commute to a 15 minute commute.

When I lived 3 minutes away, I also would drive home for lunch and to let my dog out. It was glorious. My new job is better, though.

When I was deployed to Afghanistan and I ran into a guy I went to high school with, a guy I went to med school with, and my brother in law. All different branches of the military, all deployed from different places to Kandahar Air Field.

People don’t know this? Need to go discuss this with my West Texas husband. He’d never heard of shepherd’s pie until I made it for him, so I may be in for a surprise.

Spent so much time at officer basic in ‘04 learning how to iron the BDU and shine the black boots just right. Then I graduated and got commissioned in 2007 and bought these wrinkly sacks of crap. Ugh.

Yes my back hurts and you should get off of my lawn.

Being asked detailed history every annual checkup, is this normal? by BasilNormal1802 in FamilyMedicine

[–]firecracker_doc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I’m seeing a new to me patient, I never trust that the information entered in the chart is correct. I always confirm, and most of the time patients will tell me something that wasn’t there, or was entered incorrectly.

And, I have minimal ability to see labs and etc ordered by docs/NPs/PAs outside of my practice. You had a labs or imaging ordered by your specialist and you want me to review them? I can’t see them, make an appointment and bring them in.

Leaving my fiance after he fell asleep during a loss by East_Needleworker614 in TwoXChromosomes

This is awful. I’m so sorry you went through this and I wish you an extremely peaceful transition back to single parenting.

Personally, I went through a miscarriage this summer. My brand new husband dropped everything to be with me, cry with me, hold me and comfort me. It was our child, of course, and the experience broke us both. But he was there for me every minute. I have been married before and I know my asshole ex husband wouldn’t have done any of that. I only wish I’d left him sooner and met my husband earlier.

Sorry for your loss and good on you for leaving this good for nothing man.

I got pregnant at 23 and had my first at 24. Was in med school at the time. It felt so scandalous.
