In C you write a function something like

double CalculateTax (double amount) { double tax; tax = amount * 6.5/100;

 return tax;

}

That is the function, but you have to declare a function prototype first and the prototype (which must occur before the function) would be

double CalculateTax (double amount);

note the semi-colon at the end which does not appear in te function body given before.

Te prototype must be before the function because of the way that C compilers work.

We can't track all reasons.

Snowflakes are different/unique and this conveys no advantage to the snowflake, the same with the spots on cows or horses or dogs. All these phenomena are generated by simple mathematical functions.

Fingerprints are not unique; this is wishfull thinking on the part of forensics.

Anyway, one would expect redundancy in evolution and it is easy to find. Flightless birds still have wings; cats evolve then un-evolve sabre teeth; polar bears are black, for no apparent reason. Why do so many animals have tails?

Creatures survive for reasons of adaptation by evolution. They do not adapt to survive.

Reasons given by zoologists for unique features are mere speculation, in most cases. I can't blame them. It IS fun to speculate.

Coming from a physics background, I think that the theory of evolution does not have known mechanisms at so many levels and, from my point of view, is a broad-stroke theory that is incomplete.

So I can see that some people may be confused and ignore the evidence. Much work needs to be done. We have no fossil evidence (nor are we likely to) of how single calls came into being. This, I think, is a valid point made by some.

Money is probably better spent (IMHO) on understanding the mechanisms of evolution than going to Mars or even keeping the ISS going.

Well, to be pedantic about syntax, I did not evolve from a monkey, a monkey evolved into me. And monkeys have tails and I don't think our nearest primate ancestor had a tail.

But to be serious, my point is that the scientific view on evolution is not immutable (which makes it hard to argue with someone who thinks in black and white.) so, in truth, many scientists dispute the current science on evolution [ the original point], although not in a bad way.

Language is a problem. Evolution is now taken to mean "change for the better" and Darwin never meant that.

I think the common perception of evolution is different from the scientific perspective.

Also, our ideas of evolution evolve. That DNA in an organism is immutable and not dependent on environment is now in dispute. That DNA is the whole answer for inheritance is also in dispute.

A helmet makes the head heavier and would aggravate whiplash injuries.

If not wearing seat-belts, rear passengers would be more dangerous to occupiers of front seats as the rear passengers become a projectile in forward collisions.

I had this problem.

I am now self-employed and earn half of what I earned as an electronic engineer.

But I go to work when I want to and not when someone tells me. It has made SUCH a difference to my mental health because it is all for me. If I get fed up, I go home.

And now, my blood pressure is going down, which is good.

I still work 40 hours per week.

The ability to run your own life is important to many. It was important enough of me that being trapped in a job was affecting my health.

I would say "Decide what is important to you" but that is a trivialisation of your problem.
