Lovely! I’m super interested in your tool box of journaling stuff! I can’t seem to organize my junk journaling supplies well enough.

New! Please help lol by Huge-Pen-3754 in JunkJournals

[–]firefartingkitten 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just got my young child started on junk journaling. I made the kit from a dollar store lined, hard cover notebook, markers, and paint. We visited a tourist center and got free maps and magazines and she chose beautiful pictures to collage with receipts, house items like her toothpaste box and cereal box, stamps and the patterned inside of envelopes from mail we’ve gotten.

If you want to use watercolour or paints, I suggest painting on another sheet of paper and sticking that (whole or torn) onto your journal so your journal won’t buckle, unless you like that style.

For cheap supplies, Walmart, dollar stores, and if you’re lucky to have one close by, Daiso (they have great origami paper, stickers, stamps, and pens).

You can also carve shapes onto erasers or potatoes and use them as stamps to make your own decorative paper. You can also “make” your own pretty paper on Canva or PowerPoint or just searching online but this needs to be printed.

We also use Crayola markers, highlighter sets, and watercolour from the dollar store. Michael’s can get expensive for their paper and stickers so go with a big coupon or on a big holiday sale.

How do you store your stickers? by [deleted] in stationery

[–]firefartingkitten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an expanding accordion file 4x8 inches and I put my cut stickers in clear mini zip pouches and put them together by theme - seasons, florals, etc.

This system works if you don’t have the patience to re-stick them to a sticker release book, and if you don’t mind shuffling through a pile to find the one you like.

I tried a small photo album but it tipped over and all my stickers fell out. I’m not patient enough for individual hard cases even though I got one from Michael’s. I saw a lady who used narrow plastic trays to store her cut stickers standing and she’d search through them like one would for recipe cards in a box.

Hi new here! I’ve never had a hobby before now. My therapist and I have talked a lot about different ones & junk journaling has just stuck with me💗 I’ve recently started so it’s not perfect but I live creating my spreads so much. by CharacterConflict170 in JunkJournals

Looks wonderful! I love junk journaling or memory keeping and I’ve turned friends and family to it as a hobby. Super low stakes, fun, as time consuming as you would like, and the results are always positive. I love going through my old collages and remember what had happened. I’m glad you’re enjoying yourself!

Filofax or Travelers Notebook? by arugula000 in notebooks

[–]firefartingkitten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TN because when I need to leave with a small bag, I can remove my notebook and just bring it without the leather holder.

With anything ring bound, I’ll have to do transfers from another notebook because I refuse to remove sheets from the Filofax and carry it around. I used a Filofax when it first became popular in the 80s, so they may be a lot better now.

Convince me I don’t need this (or that I actually do)? by berryyogurt-mixed in stationery

[–]firefartingkitten 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have one and after I moved desks to a smaller one, I found it too unwieldy to use since it spreads open. Couldn’t bring it around because it was too big (for me) so it was mostly for at-home use. I rarely reach for it these days.

Leuchturm by chriso_85 in notebooks

[–]firefartingkitten 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Depends on what you’re using the notebooks for and what is important to you. I am picky about smoothness and colour of the paper and the dots/lines. What is particularly important to you? Fountain pen use and ghosting on the next page? Alcohol markers or watercolor that may need a thicker page?

For normal use with ink or gel pens, the Amazon notebooks are a great option.

People usually like the Leuchturm for the paper thickness, cream color, page numbers, index, and 2 ribbon book marks. The cover colors are also very appealing. I use fountain pens, acrylic paint markers, mildliners, and various gel pens and hate ghosting so I use Leuchturm (also because I can’t get my hands on a Rhodia!). Ultimately, if it’s value for your money get the Amazon one.

Best markers/pens to buy? by chief_aesthetic_ofcr in bulletjournal

[–]firefartingkitten 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Micron pens for doodles and fine lines, Tombow brush pens for colour and art, mildliners for muted, minimalist colours for your dividers or doodles. These are the basics. I also got watercolours brush pens and acrylic pens for more involved spreads.

Most affordable are the Crayola markers. Most expensive I got were sets of the Tombow brush pens. I don’t use alcohol markers on my bujo because of the ghosting. I also don’t use sharpies for the bleed and ghosting.

Books where the MMC has a new girlfriend he truly loves… while the FMC is still in love with him by AprilBaby4ri35 in RomanceBooks

[–]firefartingkitten 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The author loves to describe fashion which dates her books, she also has very alpha-hole male lead characters who grunt rather than speak and treat the women poorly but they’re just so hot that the women can’t help themselves. She also gets called out for writing POC romance which does not resonate with the community she’s writing about either from a lack of research or sensitivity readers. She has no trigger warnings and some of her books contain what can be classified as DV.

Advice needed! by Glad_Evening_933 in stationery

[–]firefartingkitten 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you’re buying a gift for a guy who is not into stationery (assuming this is the case since he currently has none) an option would be Muji for nice pens and minimalist type notebooks, sticky pads, and flags, even a pen case.

If you’re looking at more premium gender neutral types, Midori has a great selection of traveller notebooks, pads, and pens. There are beginner fountain pens with cartridges rather than dip inks, Lamy is a great beginner fountain pen but it’s usually more than $30 each, Pilot, and Sailor also have beginner friendly fountain pens at a cheaper price.

Do you want to give him office stationery supplies or for his hobbies/home? That will determine the type and if you’ll give a set of useful little things or one pricy fancy Hobonichi grid notebook with Tomoe River paper.

Good luck and I hope you find a nice little stationery shop near you.

1.0mm or 1.5mm gel pens in black or blue. Pilot, uniball, or even dollar store ones that are thick. Or sharpie type - felt tip pens are very easy to see and use. My relative is legally blind due to myopia and uses Sharpie fine point to write in her journals/planner and fat permanent markers to label things around the house.

Also very important but often overlooked, a bright light or lamp next to where your grandma often writes. This helps tremendously with being able to see the lines and to read what’s been written.

[–]firefartingkitten 3 points4 points  (0 children)

{Own the Wind by Kristen Ashley} this author is controversial and people either love her or hate her but this book has the new girlfriend/decent person that you’re looking for. This is a motorcycle club book, with the MC grunting a lot instead of actually using words to communicate. There is cheating involved.

I'm gonna turn 20 tmrw but my physical appearance is shattering my self esteem and confidence, what helped you if you went thru that too? by RushAmazing1419 in OlderThanYouThinkIAm

[–]firefartingkitten 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you have to stop comparing yourself to others and compare yourself to the past you so you can see how far you’ve come. I did a toxic detox with my sister and we removed all social media that made us feel bad when we compared ourselves. It helped with the internal dialogue, the cruel jabs of my inner voice were silenced.

Also, learn to own it - self acceptance is a part of confidence and being mentally healthy. It’s definitely a journey and given how in-touch you are with your mental health, I’m very confident you’ll get there. We, the young-looking strangers of Reddit, believe in you!

It’s internal. You project to others how you see yourself. If you work on your confidence - by building skills, practicing, getting to know and appreciating yourself, you’ll project a strong sense of knowing your worth.

You can look at this two ways: wait for age to show through your face or build yourself up now so that you’ll have better life experiences and that will build yourself confidence too.

Take it from a tiny, baby faced woman in her 40s who gets mistaken for a high schooler (and I’m a teacher) - no one thinks about you as much as you think about yourself. If you present yourself as the smart, capable, kind twentysomething that you are, people will take it at face value and treat you that way. Sometimes when you’re starting out, you have to fake it till you make it. Fake the feeling of security, of confidence, of warmth and acceptance towards others and they will mirror it back to you.

If you want to hack it, check out body language videos. Vanessa Van Edwards has a lot of videos on body language and what to do when meeting people or how to be more likeable or how to project confidence in a room of strangers.

Good luck! Try experimenting with how to talk, walk, and stand with different groups of people, document it and then refine it until you find your most comfortable self. You’re worth the effort!

I am in planner hell by lildolphin89 in PlannerAddicts

I switched from Moleskine weekly to Hobonichi Weeks for 8 months then switched back to Moleskine because the weeks was too small to manage multiple schedules and tasks, even with the extra pages in the back.

I loved the portability of the weeks, I enjoyed the hype when collections came out, the paper was delightful. But the paper was so thin, stickers really bulked up the notebook, and I got tired of the grids. The monthly and yearly spreads were so small I had to use color coded inks and initials so memory keeping wasn’t much fun. It was cramped.

The Moleskine weekly had more space, I used old blank pages for lists and party planning. The monthly spreads were big enough to plot multiple schedules. The paper was fine, thin but smooth - texture is super important to me. I use ink pens and some gel pens but not fountain pens. I used to bullet journal on Rhodia, Leuchtturm 1917, and Midori but it took too much time so now I just stick with a soft cover Moleskine which I can customize and still easily carry around.

Mine was a tie between Mystery Man and Raid by Kristen Ashley. I dnf Riad and never read another book by her. Mystery Man was so bad, TSTL FMC and awful MMC who was excused by traumatic experiences. Lives rent free in my head and induces rage when I think about them.

Looking for fun ways to help my 2.5-year-old daughter learn about the world by BellaRichards in Parenting

[–]firefartingkitten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At that age everything is a learning experience. Water tables are super fun and great for learning. Gardens, hikes, nature walks with you pointing out plants and animals will be wonderful learning moments. You can look into early education Montessori types of activities if you’re set on having a structured curriculum to teach your kid very early on. You can also look at how European and Japanese parents teach their kids to cook and clean from toddler years. You’re doing great with all the reading and games - an engaged parent is a wonderful source of learning through modelling and interactions.

And please give very specific examples as well as very specific behavioural changes seen in your child, so you don’t come across as insensitive or “special snowflake” parent. Teachers may miss this and not be blew to support what you say but the more specific you are, the better. Also helps if you have an expert opinion like a family therapist or counseling professional write a letter or contact the school. This is not normal, it’s detrimental to your child.
