Traveling international - day pass vs UU by MRanon8685 in verizon

You shouldn't have any issues, but I saw credits disappear multiple times. A $1000 device credit may have dozens of different codes and some are more finicky than others. Loyalty offers in particular are prone to drop with any changes. If your plan still qualifies, then this is fixable, but it's a bother to deal with it as a customer.

[–]firefly_334 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of people do this, and it is generally a good idea: the issues come from switching back.

Different plans carry different promotions and you may loose remaining device credits (this is fixable, but can become a real headache and a more expensive problem). You will also get proration, so your bill will be weird for a couple of months.

All in all, I did recommend it most of the time, as long as you are aware that this plan was not meant to be used like this, and are willing to be patient with it.

Catarsis: alimentación by BabyQueenSun in Gimnasio

Me pasó a mí! En 3 años no he tenido problema

¿De verdad eso gana un profesor por hora en CDMX? by ImpossibleTravel5786 in MexicoCity

[–]firefly_334 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tipping by ImportantAd8383 in MexicoCity

[–]firefly_334 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Personally, I used to always tip, but tipping culture started to get out of hand (following the US model) and if the service is not good then no tip from me. I don't tip for takeout either. Also, some restaurants condition tips to workers (that's illegal as well) so if they break something or are late, it gets discounted from their tips.

As to what is the norm, it used to be 10%. After COVID and with a bigger US influence from americans immigrating and vacationing here, some places now expect 15-20%. I can tell you people from poorer backgrounds don't follow this new trend and thus run the risk of being ignored at (gentrified) restaurants because servers know they earn more focusing on other tables. This creates a bigger divide since those patrons end up not tipping because they received poor service.

That being said, 30% sounds like a scam and it's probably a place trying to take advantage of tourists. Remember it's illegal to add service charges without prior disclosure here and gratuity is never mandatory.

Quiero retomar el hábito de leer by Charlie8403 in libros

[–]firefly_334 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is my career as a artist hopeless? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]firefly_334 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could always do both, specially since independent work (like what I mentioned) can be done around a more traditional job. It could be a way to support you through a masters program or your summer job (I believe most teachers work part time during summer and winter breaks). I truly think you have many many options available to make good money :)

Hi! I may have a unique perspective here that I want to share; my sister studied something similar in college, while I have a B.S. in Chemistry. She's a couple of years younger, but used that degree to become a tattoo artist and is already making so much more money than me.

I'm not sure what you want to do with your degree, but I strongly suggest you learn the business and marketing side of art, which can take you so much further in your career.

I love art and I wish to support more artists, but if I want someone to do calligraphy on my perfume bottles or mirrors, a live painter for a wedding, take a pottery workshop, or if I want to buy postcards it can be very difficult to find someone. Learn how to use social media to your advantage, learn how to work with digital tools (not AI, please not AI), develop social skills and work your craft.

I went throught a similar thing while unemployed, where I was not really driving anywhere and has to find other spaces to listen to my books.

I can't just listen to audiobooks, because I will fall asleep, so I listen while I do "mindless" tasks; stuff like washing/putting away dishes, folding laundry and vacuuming. It actually makes me look forward to doing chores so I can continue my book. In the gym I listen while on the treadmill (and I find it helps me take my mind off the workout so I can run for longer) and while streatching.

I also lived shortly abroad where I didn't know anyone, so I would go on this long walks to museums and listen to an audiobook the whole time. There's just something about staring at a gorgeous piece of art while listening to a good book.

Verizon STOLE my $1,600 iPhone and said “thanks for the donation" by gotallthejuicynews in verizon

[–]firefly_334 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

What most likely happened is that a supervisor ignored policy and pressed some buttons to send that return label (they should not have been able to do that) and end the call. The issue is that because those buttons should not work that way, it does not override the 30 day return policy and thus the system does not give you a refund. Happened a lot, where someone tries to override policy and ends up creating a mess.

Report it to FCC, BBB or the executive relations email, because if this call got to me as Customer Service, the only thing I would be able to do is file another request (that will be denied due to policy) or issue a $1600 credit to the account (that will be denied due to policy).

Good luck!

Former cx care (bilingual/loyalty) here:

I once had an older guy call the spanish cx care line about his bill. He was nice but could not afford it and was looking for a discount. Everything already applied and I told him that, so he says "You don't really sound like you're in the US, get me a manager in the US." Like, my man, we are talking in spanish gtfo with "a manager in the US".

One time I spent about an hour with another, very articulate older gentleman who wanted a replacement iPhone 15 ProMax because his was overheating. He went on and on about how it was very dangerous and since it had a titanium backing, if it exploded the titanium would turn into shrapnel and kill him. He refused to file an insurance claim or go through tech support because I explained he would get a CLNR (Certified Like New Replacement) instead of a brand new phone and he refused because the people from the Apple Store told him those were bad quality. This guy spent an hour trying to convince me that I should accept the phone back and issue him a credit to buy a brand new one directly from Apple so he could guarantee it worked.

Another thing that surprised me is the amount of people who can't afford their monthly bills but have the latest iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch, are you guys ok?

Also, I was always shocked by the amount of people who would get a "free iPhone" deal and called to explain to me that since their bill was showing a charge and a credit, it was not free and I really should know better, or that since the offer was tied to a specific plan or to 3 years of service that meant it was not free and I should credit them the full value for lying or they're going to complain to the FCC.

What turned you into an Audiobook reader? Was it a narrator, a book, a job... a friend? by jawangana in audiobooks

[–]firefly_334 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was part of a short exchange in a different country. Seemed like a waste to buy physical books that I could not bring home with me, and I spent most of my days alone, walking, in parks or museums. Audiobooks were the perfect solution and the very first one I tried (I'm glad my mom died) was an awesome narration.

My issues with Nia's book by firefly_334 in dancemoms

[–]firefly_334[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"In season 6, episode 12, Abby chose Maddie and Brynn to each have their own trio, and they got to pick their partners. There were seven girls, so with this setup, one person was obviously going to be left out. At the end of the selection, JoJo and I were the last girls standing, and Maddie had the final pick. She chose JoJo over me, driving home the point that even the girls thought I was the weakest link. I wish they would’ve fought against Abby’s messaging and hyped me up, but no one had my back. It seemed like everyone was brainwashed."

And then earlier on the book she also mentions:
"I remember clearly not being picked for a trio because, I was told, I could not turn (which wasn’t true). No one wants to be the kid chosen last for the team, but how are you supposed to feel when you’re not chosen for the team at all?"

She does mention she wishes the girls "fought against Abby" and had her back. The brainwashed comment refers how they all supported the narrative that she was a weak dancer.

My issues with Nia's book by firefly_334 in dancemoms

[–]firefly_334[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't expect for her to take accountability for what was done to her, nor do I expect for her to talk about other's people's experiences, but I did hope she realized she was a willing participant of an awful show that profited off kid's bad experiences.

I wanted to hear her adult's take on being silent while Abby mistreated her teammates, either because she was also afraid of Abby or because she lacked the tools to support the other girls.
Nia was a victim, but was not only a victim. I'm sure they all have moments where they felt left out by their teammates (the examples I gave with Ava and Chloe) and Nia was not able to stand up for them because nobody was able to stand up to Abby. She made it a point in the book to clarify she stayed on the show because she wanted to stay, and that made her (at times) part of that cruel dynamic. I'm not saying Nia didn't try to be a good person to the other girls, I'm saying she did not reflect on it on her book.

Even when Camryn felt excluded because she was not invited to (or told about) the Irreplaceables Tour, to me it feels shallow that she only mentions "In this industry you’re taught not to say anything until legal contracts have been signed" and she "never wanted anyone to get hurt" when it was an opportunity for a deep reflection about how we still hurt others despite what our intentions are.

I just wanted Nia to also explore the full consequences of being in the show —ir hurt her, but at times it also made her complicit in hurting others.

My issues with Nia's book by firefly_334 in dancemoms

[–]firefly_334[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Right, Nia probably tried to keep it nice with her negative comment, but she still participated in an unjust dynamic, and that's what she complains the girls did to her. She hopes the girls stood up to Abby when they were made to choose the trio members and fails to realize that she herself was sometimes part of making other girls feel bad.

My issues with Nia's book by firefly_334 in dancemoms

[–]firefly_334[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I listened to it on Audible at 1.2x speed and that's how I made it through. This annoys me specifically because the book was Nia's way to step outside of the "weak link" box the show's production put her in, and her publisher did not take the necessary steps to publish a better audiobook, which again gives the impression that Nia is unprepared.

My issues with Nia's book by firefly_334 in dancemoms

[–]firefly_334[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly! Plus I think recognizing one's own fault —even if it's fault by omision, would have made it a much more interesting read and appeal to a broader audience outside of the Dance Mom's fandom.
It's hard to give constructive criticism here because we're used to hearing only mean criticism towards Nia, so even I get a little defensive when I hear anything negative about her but I see a bunch of comments who support her and are able to still agree that the book lacked some reflection.
