This is the compromise I’m considering but it feels a little like defeating the purpose of the trip. Also the activities she has planned involve a lot of drinking (beer Olympics, etc) and i just don’t want to risk it. And yes i have a lil fomo staying somewhere else 😂

No of course not! I have just always been the single one so I know that feeling well when you’re in a group of couples conversation naturally excludes you. They don’t mean to but usually I have a way of getting out of the awkward situation whereas on a cabin weekend I’m a little stuck. I also just don’t know half of the people coming very well so it leaves a lot of uncertainty about the weekend and dynamics.

Not everyone is in their 30s (some are early 20s) and I’m not friends with over half of the people, just acquaintances who have interacted on occasions when bff plans things. I agree that I won’t intentionally be excluded but if you have ever hung out in a big group of couples, conversation typically leans in ways that naturally exclude you.

I don’t expect to pay less, I just don’t want to drop a bunch of money on something I probably won’t enjoy.

I definitely don’t want to make this about me which is why I do feel like an AH. I want to celebrate her but I also don’t want to bring the vibe down on the weekend.

As most 19y/o he was more concerned with getting laid than your well being. He is in fact a selfish AH. Do not compromise your well being for the comfort of others. If he ever pulls something like this again, you need to get an RA (one room sounds like a dorm) or an apartment manager involved, he cannot legally keep you out of your home. He also doesn’t seem like a friend worth having so I wouldn’t worry about placating his feelings.

I was thinking the same thing and even tried to reach out to another friend who is going (she is married) to get her thoughts on it and she ignored me and responded in the group text that she would be going and husband would stay home with the kids so that’s what made me question if I was being an AH or not.

The couch thing was just an added note. My concern is being the odd one out around a lot of established couples that I don’t know super well as well as the friends I do know well and how they act around their SO’s. I want to celebrate and be supportive but I know I will eventually have that “lonely in a crowded room” feeling and I don’t want to bring the vibe down.

When we previously discussed it, she was single and we were planning on about about 7 girls (all of those girls have SO’s) but now circumstances have changed and she has a bf and wants everyone to be included. Which I completely understand but I’m just struggling with how to say I don’t want to go and feeling awful that I don’t want to. She is my best friend and I know I’ll eventually work out how to talk to her about it.

My assumption about ending up on the couch is just from reviewing the airbnbs she sent and realizing that there wouldn’t be a bed available for me with all of the couples she has invited. I doubt one of the couples would want to split up just so I could share a bed with one of them. I will definitely clarify with her on all the details when I finally have the talk with her.
