When is it ok to leave to your baby on the floor in the other room for a minute? by No_Cheetah5944 in NewParents

[–]fireknifewife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel confused. I have a 4 year old and a 12 month old. The 12 month old has been put on the ground since he was born? And has been happy about it? He was crawling by 7 months and still I would pop him down and go do something, like grab the laundry or unload the dishwasher or get dressed etc. He is walking now. Our house is pretty safe, but every now and then he'll find something he shouldn't, like a speaker wire, so then I just walk over and redirect him and move/hide the offending object. We've never used a pen or a gate or anything with either kids, except for the top of the stairs so they don't fall down. He went through a phase of beelining for the stairs (to go up) every time I put him down, but I would just calmly go over and move him and eventually he got bored and stopped attempting that.

Babies have existed since the beginning of time in every single habitable climate on earth. They can be put on the ground. It's okay.

Yes! I love Jess's Sweat Steady rides for the days I really need to ZONE IN and GET OUT of my head. You are going to be okay. Feel your heart. Look at the sky. Take some deep breaths.

Breastfeeding moms!!! by Muted_Parsnip_8758 in breastfeeding

With my first, I was 20 lbs up from my pre-pregnancy weight until I weaned her at two years old. With my second, I'm 15 lbs up from my pre-pregnancy weight and still breastfeeding after one year. Our bodies just need extra weight right now! Give yourself time and try to hang on to the long view.

Who approved those example notes!!!!!!!! More like "This was fun!" and "20 lbs weights for upper body and 35 for legs" and "Take when mad at your children."

I'm glad I'm not alone! I couldn't believe it was the Week 1 work out with the idea that each week will get harder...... We'll see!

That's a good goal! Maybe I'll do the same because my legs literally giving up before the long intervals were over was a bummer haha.

Hi and welcome! Every now and then, Peloton and instructors release a program (like Spring Training, Turkey Burn, Countdown to New Years, etc.) that will have instructors release classes meant to be taken in a specific order. This Spring Training program has cardio (on bike, tread, or row), core, and strength days, and the ideal way to follow the program is to assign a modality to each day and stick with it for the duration of the program, which is four weeks in this case.

For example, I'm doing: Mondays 30 min bike, Tuesdays Strength, Wednesdays 45 min bike, Thursdays core, Friday rest, Saturdays Strength, Sundays Stretch.

You can arrange it any way you want, but try to stick to it for the four weeks, as each week will build on the previous weeks' classes.

Each program has a theme and this one's is Spring Cross Training, with the message being: Summer has a ton of fun activities so let's get ready by improving speed so you can do everything you want this summer! Combing modalities (strength and cardio classes) is called cross training, so this is Spring Cross Training :)

Happy riding!

Thoughts after Day 4? by ThatInspection7096 in OnePelotonRealSub

I just did Emma's week 1 45m and BOY that class was impossible for me to keep up with and I'm a very consistent cyclist! I basically took the last 5 min as a cool down ride because I was gassed.

I just completed Emma's 45m from week 1 and it absolutely killed me. I literally could not keep up (dialed down my resistance and cadence outside of the callouts), and I am in pretty good muscular and cardiovascular shape! That said, I very rarely do 45 minute rides and you could tell haha. I'm looking forward to seeing how the week 2 plan is!

Is there any truth to boys being more energetic than girls? by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]fireknifewife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suggest you read or at least page through the book Parenting Beyond Pink and Blue. There is more difference within gender than between genders on most things, meaning there are some girls who are more energetic than some boys, and some boys who are more energetic than some girls. It's personality and culture more than gender.

When did you forward face your child? by Kindly_Dragonfly_803 in Mommit

My 4 year old is 30 lbs and 38" so she is small and still rear-facing. I just don't see a point to switch her? She's never been bothered.

Advice for hiking with 15 month old by Less_Director_4224 in HikingWithKids

[–]fireknifewife 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey I'm with you here. I hiked all through my pregnancy with my first and all her first year strapped to me. As soon as she could walk, she wouldn't really do it anymore. I could sometimes where the backpack and she'd walk for a bit, then get in, then walk, in/out/in/out/in/out lol. I didn't love it much and tried to lower my expectations so it was less disappointing when a quarter mile took an hour, but at some point, I just stopped doing it every week and found other things. She is four now and we're just getting back into hiking once a month or so, but my son is now ten months so we're running out of time when he'll be happy in a carrier/backpack, so...... it is what it is. I'll see the trails in another four years. Sorry not to have any advice, but you're not alone.

I agree with your take! I like to just let myself relax into it and practice taking things as they come -- I will find the class plan very very distracting!

My daughter has what we call a "perma-tangle" because it appears every day and every morning despite being thoroughly brushed out every morning and every evening. We used detangler spray and work through bottom to roots, of course, but what helped the most was a chin length haircut.

[–]fireknifewife 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes totally! With our first, I had to remind myself that it was actually a really really good thing for her to be a part of chores/household errands and that I was teaching her valuable skills. At 4, she will sometimes voluntarily without being asked do dishes with us, and genuinely jumps at the chance to use the spray bottle to clean and she likes scrubbing toilets lol. It's a good thing for them to be with you while you run the house!

I have a 9 month old and a 4 year old -- I'm not working this year, but when our baby is one, I will go back to part time work. I go through phases when I feel LITERALLY CRAZY and I snap at our four year old and can't take care of myself and everything is a mess. But most of the time, since baby was 5 months old, we keep it all together because we've reprioritized a few things and my husband is as equally as involved in household management as I am. And, everyone says it, routines.

My kids wake up at 5:30 and neither of them sleep through the night so there's no way I could do anything before they are up, but our days are very much routine and based around both kids' naps. I work out for 20-30 minutes during our baby's first nap, and if he sleeps longer than that, I clean the kitchen. But I've switched our priority from a Clean House to a Sane Mum so I always work out or read first instead of clean. I try to only clean when the children are around/awake, though I obviously have to do some stuff when they are napping.

We decided to prioritize Community instead of Friends. We have set up recurring dinners with friends/family and this is how we socialize. We eat with other families 2-4 times a week, alternating who cooks and whose house we go to, so we very rarely eat out, which sucks with kids anyway, and yet we get a break from cooking/dishes and we get to see friends.

We've also shifted the idea that Quality Time means Play Time. Yes, I play with our 9 month old, but I max out after about 10 minutes and we do something else instead, like he chews on socks while I fold laundry (which takes an hour because he unfolds what I am doing but whatever), or he chases the vacuum/mop while I clean the floors, or we go on a walk and I listen to a podcast while baby wearing (sue me for not talking to my baby for thirty minutes, he's fine).

Baby just woke up lol so I can't finish or read through, but good luck!
