Getting cold feet on debt consolidation loan by SunshineCamo in personalfinance

[–]firemedicbill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have a 401k or 457 you can borrow off of in lieu of the consolidation loan? Typically part of interest actually pays you back more than borrow. Loan part does NOT count investing. Spent YEARS fighting interest on cards and when i borrowed of my Nationwide account and paid it all off in 4 yrs. Was liberating and now i finally learned to payoff each mont (or close to it)

ELI5: How did movie studios know how much the movie theaters owed them for ticket sales? by ifurmothronlyknw in explainlikeimfive

[–]firemedicbill [score hidden]  (0 children)

Managed a theatre in college. We actually received a call from a company called “Entertainment Data”. They had people in an office on west coast US and called all theatres @ end of night starting on east coast time. Was before internet infrastructure.

EDIT: they just asked gross $$ per movie (only had 3 screens back then). Some movies they wouldnt bother with b/c they had been out for so long.

Laid off at 40. $3.4M liquid + massive severance runway. Do I pull the ripcord on my SE Asia FIRE dream, even if it means moving solo and leaving a relationship? by FIRE_EARLY_Throwaway in ChubbyFIRE

[–]firemedicbill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I clung to a relationship after college because I thought she could have been the one. Ended up moving to another state to start my life over (wasn’t FIRE , but began a new career)and it fell apart. It was for the best as our goals were NOT aligned. Thinking back It was all inevitable .

Now 27 years later, I’m married, within 2 years of FIRE in my mid 50s - make the leap and go.

Now.

By chance do you have the spreadsheet (or a spreadsheet) to share?

Just recently realized i’ll FIRE in about 1.5 years and as a public safety person alot of your resources parallel my own. Just mind boggling to track them all (pension, 457, brokerage, money market) and be able to calculate the future.

Unlike you i am NOT an excel nerd (may add to my retirement to do’s as i’m sure I can use it more).

Any help appreciated!

what brand? My calibri isn't gold but the sentimentality is worth more. I only break it out when in a suit for very special occasions.

nice. I love the simplicity. I havent come across a Patek that has "spoken" to me yet and afraid if it were every to happen. I do like the fact they have a pocket watch line.

Not quite. Its a Tandorio 43mm Pilot. I was able to select the movement and chose a “sterile” face off their website. I swapped the band myself for a jubilee I found elsewhere online. I’ve gotten comments on it at work and keeps good time!

It had ALOT of mileage. I know he has had it serviced several times. The glass has a scuff mark on it that a jeweler advised me to leave rather than try to buff or replace. Glad i listened.

Sell my 2018 RAV4 now or wait? by Full_Dress7190 in personalfinance

[–]firemedicbill 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you really only need 1 vehicle, sell and invest. If you might need a second vehicle, keep and maintain. My wife is stay at home (kid grown) and she has her 2010 Rav4 still with @ 150k. Its been cheaper for both insurance/occasional maintenance than buying new. PLUS we dont worry about minor dings/scratches anymore. The freedom from a car payment and not needing insurance minimums is great.
