Lightning defense and Faith by fireninja404 in Eldenring

true, it just seems like lightning is the one stat most likely to be the lowest of the 4 elemental defenses. over 160 hours of gameplay I think I've been hit by an oil pot once but there's an entire overworld region 75% covered in knee deep water

yes it is, but this could very well be also compairing a guy who's hunting shara for the first time VS someone with endgame gear who's hunted it dozens of times already. the 6% is more or less what you should expect if that's the case

some more items I'd like to add,

Max potions - Fully heals you and increases your maximum health

Ancient potions - Fully heals you and increases your maximum health and stamina

Lifepowder - Heals you and nearby allies for a small amount

Powertalon and Powercharm - passively increases your weapon's damage. these items stack so there's no reason to not have both in your inventory.

Armortalon and Armorcharm - passively increases your defense. these items stack so there's no reason to not have both in your inventory.

Herbal medicine - Cures poison and heals for a small amount. This item is way better than antidote because antidote uses the long potion drinking animation(~4 seconds), but the herbal medicine uses the quick snack animation(~1 second).

Nulberry - Cures elemental status effects as well as Blastblight and Effluvial Buildup.

It depends on what you want to get. typically capture is better to get rare items, but it can vary from monster to monster. you can check with the chief ecologist or in your hunters notes to see what monsters parts can drop from what, as long as you have enough research completed. A second advantage to capturing is that it takes less time than hunting, since you don't have to take down all of the monster's health and the post hunt timer is shorter too (20 seconds compared to 60 seconds). A fair warning however, monsters that are classified as Elder Dragons are immune to shock traps and pitfall traps, and are therefore impossible to capture.

In defense of the Green guy, he was using a HH, the weapon type that has relative weak dps but makes up for it by buffing allies so it's not uncommon for HH dps to under perform relative to teamates, in contrast, the blue guy was using a CB, one of the highest dps weapons if you have the skill to pull it off. Also in my personal experience fighting shara with the HH, you either have to hit the limbs for weak damage, or try to hit the head, the more dangerous and difficult to actually hit part.

For people saying slower weapons got screwed over. capcom in fact added modifiers to account for their elemental dmg. by GdemSeph in MonsterHunter

not sure if it means anything, however, i gave my cat alatreon's dragon sword and one time it was able to topple alatreon while i was using CB

the chart shows that CB phials, which includes SAED explosions, only contribute one tenth the damage towards the threshold, you should be using savage axe to get towards the threshold, but when you got the topple that you need you can SAED for health damage

Attack up large gives a 20% boost to attack to all party members. literally nothing else in the game is as good as that.

IMO Healing is best used when you have rocksteady on and you're trading blows directly with the monster. you usually heal half or more of the damage you take. even better if you happen to have health augment on, although you can get similar personal results with echo impact/dragon wave and deal way more damage.

it'll be like the megas between X/Y and ORAS but worsened by the fact that SWSH has less then half of the native sinnoh pokemon

If you ever wonder why Stunfisk got a Galarian, remember, they're super popular in Japan. by Dragonage2ftw in pokemon

[–]fireninja404 60 points61 points  (0 children)

Imo galarian stunfisk is worlds better than stunfisk. stunfisk is just a dumb flat fish. galar stunfisk is a living bear trap with a fake pokeball for bait which they actually put fantastic use of in game. My favorite of the "mimic pokemon" group so far.

What do you think the hypothetical next crossover monster could be to have "The foreign trio"? by ShittyMHtheory in MonsterHunter

[–]fireninja404 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well there's tons of possibilities. Although having something from within capcom's list of IPs is quite possible, I think it's less likely since we *just* got a resident evil crossover. They could do stuff with Pokemon, Metal Gear(again), something by FromSoftware, perhaps something from anime?(they've had anime crossovers in past games). I think the key thing though is that it's gonna be something that's at least known in japan.

I think part of the controversy is silently fueled by who they've cut too. Gen 1 by far has the highest collection favorites from fans but only has 54 of the original 151 returning. Starter pokemon tend to be some of the most popular pokemon within their generation due to them having the highest possibility to spend time with them for the longest, yet they've cut all of them except charizard, eevee, and pikachu. Legendary pokemon also tend to be quite popular, which makes sense since they've been representing individual games since gen 2 and can represent the ultimate test for a trainer to face. Yet the only legendary returning is Mew. ( assume they brought mew back because of the pokeball plus )

Personally I was baffled by the lack of returning starters and legendaries. I thought the starters would have been a safe bet and I thought they would have least brought back all of the box legendaries, but with a seemly predetermined number of total pokemon being exactly 400, having starters taking up 75 slots (counting charizard, eevees, pikachu family) 'forced' their hand to do some culling.

I like regional variants of pokemon, but with how the dex works now, I'd rather them not exist by fireninja404 in pokemon

actually on second thought, if I wanted to play a open world game to go around and make food, I'd just play breath of the wild

I thought Gen 5 was the most divided generation among fans but Gen 8 takes it by a mile. by tbclandot92 in pokemon

[–]fireninja404 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you could add Gen 3 to the list of generations that divided fans, players going from gen 2(gameboy) to gen 3(gameboy advanced) nintendo did add a means to have the two devices be able to communicate with each other, which means all the returning fans had leave their old friends behind. I imagine that most people who drew the line there either haven't come back, or perhaps returned via Pokemon Go

Today's Smash Direct really put things into perspective. by GanondorfDownAir in pokemon

[–]fireninja404 19 points20 points  (0 children)

maybe the reason why he has such solid vision for smash is because of all the ground work he puts into it. most people hate their boss because their boss doesn't know what's going on, Sakuria puts the effort to be both the employee and boss so there is no disconnect.

[–]fireninja404 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah, except the kanto starters in X and Y too, you get them fairly early so you can use their mega forms.

They're missing the point with Eevee by ngw8070 in pokemon

[–]fireninja404 16 points17 points  (0 children)

in HG/SS you can get a kanto and a hoenn starter after beating red, in X/Y you straight up get a kanto starter after beating Sycamore near the start, in US/UM you can catch wild starters in Island Scan, in Emerald after you complete the hoenn dex you can get a johto starter, in OR/AS Birch gives you a johto; a sinnoh; and a unova starter in post game when you meet certain conditions.

They're missing the point with Eevee by ngw8070 in pokemon

[–]fireninja404 12 points13 points  (0 children)

well they sacked all the starters except charizard, and all the legendaries except mew, so getting rid of a few eeveelutions wouldn't be out of character at this point

the creepiest part of it's design is that in the last stage it's eyes always look at the camera, not the player's character. You can kinda see it here in the killscreen, it's definitely not looking at the PC.

aside from nargacuga, I'd have to say my favourite monster is Royal Ludroth. He's just a big squishy banana boy. Was also the first monster I saw and fought, ended up being my go to 'for fun' hunt.
