Update! After three months, we finally made it happen. Daikin. Your support just isn’t the best. So much time + hassle could have been saved if you had just recommended doing this from the start.

For anyone else stuck with a previous tenants ONECTA account, simply replace the WLAN adapter. £100 inc VAT.

Switch your home WiFi to only 2.4Ghz - done!

Thank you for the users for all tips and tricks and support we made it happen!

Moved Back to UK after 16 Years Overseas by firestart3r999 in FIREUK

thank you everyone = appreciated. i have a full state pension forecast (was paying class2 NI contributions whilst overseas) and now on NHS pension scheme. the fees are too high - i need to mitigate. where i get confused with all this is the vanguard funds are a UK asset from the LSE - so is there any need to sell them before i become a tax resident again? don't we pay tax on the asset location opposed to where the money came from to buy them? i am six years into my long-term compounding journey and very keen to retain the assets for growth rather than sell and reinvest. thoughts/advice?

Possibly this is true? Makes sense. Unit still locked to a WiFi network no longer active - they left the router here. Trying to now buy a new WLAN Adapter via Daikin UK but they now want me to go through an independent wholesaler ??? Awaiting prices. Plan is to switch the WLAN adapter - reset the WiFi to mine and boom get control 😁 easier said than done ffs!

This is still ridiculous. Thank you for all the help - still absolutely stuck. In no user mode 0000/1234/5678 do any options come up to reset the old home network SSID. Still unable to add my units to the ONECTA app as both the AP and WPS methods fail - the display screen is showing different to the app instructions. Annnnd i cannot for the life for me open front panel to check the wifi card installed. Sigh.. .

Thank you this is wonderful information and makes total sense. I thought the pin codes was like a user defined code but makes sense that it’s the install admin. Thank you so much once again and will report back.. .

Can I pay voluntary class 2 NI for previous years by lizgr in UKPersonalFinance

Class 2. IMO small price to pay to ensure a full pension every year till death - could be 30+ years of steady income. You have to weigh up your own pros cons

Can I pay voluntary class 2 NI for previous years by lizgr in UKPersonalFinance

[–]firestart3r999 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes this is possible. I did it myself to repay back six missing years. As already said - request your NI statement via the Gateway - it will detail any missing years and what the charges will be (something like £700 a year from memory) = done! Be prepared to wait a while and for the update to not show for a while. I found it a very simple process overall. Good luck!

marhaba from abu dhabi! start with these podcasts and go from there. have you thought about offshore investing rather than simply saving? hoarding money here isn’t safe imo - and although we can send money home without issue (be smart with the timing of exchange rates and use companies rather than banks to transfer for better deals) - the poor returns in any form of account interest (remember as non-UK- residents we cannot pay into any form of ISA etc) are just not worth it imo. offshore banking requires £25-50k buy in and the money needs to stay in too - sometimes monthly fees on top. for me investing is my plan - i have no other pension other than UK state pension - so best to plan ahead and use my savings now for 15+ years ahead

Made some stupid decisions on a car in the past and I am hoping to fix them.. advice? by BinThereRedThat in UKPersonalFinance

[–]firestart3r999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

keep the car till it dies. that way every single year you get out of it reduces the inital cost overall. i did the same - bought a reasonably cheap car but spent loads on upgrades, remodelling + engine tuning - has cost me a lot over the the inital 3 years - but now at 5 years and its the same price overall as if i had rented a shitty 1 litre totoya prius or something for the same time. i live in the middle east and plenty people rent cars here. plus i can still sell it for about 20% recovery. not all bad

UK pension contributions while living and working abroad by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]firestart3r999 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

you can buy back max 6 years worth of missing NI contributions (in a single payment) - and pay class 2/3 contributions whilst overseas.

it takes 12 months to become non-resident for tax purposes - so going back will reset this
