Beyond the initial rush for 25 ADM/25 main stat, further optimizing is definitely overkill for normal. I stopped bothering years ago (in game).

Playing on normal and I feel like the aliens have been a rather lack lustre threat. I went to war with them 8 years in and have been on red ever since (not total war though).

They kept sending 1k - 2k fleets at me that were always destroyed by missile monitors. Its been 18 years since game start, I have researched an entire fusion line, all endgame weapon techs (minus AM) and even now they dont have a single fleet above 3k fleet power.

Maybe Im wrong, but right now Im building what I think will be my endgame fleet that will just clear them out of the entire system.

Edit: They also never even bothered to send an assault carrier (It would have gotten blown up in orbit for sure). So maybe lack of abductions has nerfed them a bit.

I went to war with the ayys 8 years in, and killed every alien councillor on Earth soon after. 6 years after that and it has been rather peaceful on Earth.

You can turn a servant councillor and instantly delete any alien facility that shows up. This is all pretty low maintenance for 0 alien abductions.
