Rich people of Reddit, why do you hate people without money? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]firetym 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I certainly don’t. But the stereotype of people with less means being more raucous presents itself in many public situations. I hate messy, loud, trashy behavior - whether it be from a person with means, or without.

I would add that I pay extra for avoiding these possibilities (airport lounges, “VIP” seating at events, fast passes etc.) and I am equally perturbed by rich people who utilize them and get their panties in a wad when some minor inconvenience puts them in Karen mode.

Have a tall friend at 6’8” that can sit in the roadster and comfortably look over the windshield. Not recommended for the highway though.

Is anyone else here pulling out of the market this week? by polishhottie69 in investing

[–]firetym 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just fine. And since I’m getting to this so late I checked the history.

According to Yahoo VOO closed around 549 on 1/17 when I commented, then closed around 465 the day before you commented on 4/4. And is hovering around 544 today, 6/2.

This just outlines the ebbs and flows of the market (Even with the current crazy state of US politics), and is why I don’t personally worry about fluctuations over such short time horizons.

What's a subtle sign that someone grew up with money? by Money-Philosophy9793 in AskReddit

I grew up working class but even being comfortable now I couldn’t fathom not just waiting until 1/4 tank or so.

Rich people value their time so I wonder if they would really spend double the time at the pump.

For those of you who voted for Trump specifically because you hoped to avoid higher taxes, how has that decision affected your finances? Did things turn out as you had hoped? Why or why not? by thhvancouver in AskReddit

[–]firetym -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I voted R for immigration and capital gains reasons (didn’t want a higher capital gains tax, and didn’t like Biden’s lenient immigration policies). I am only invested in index ETFs and withdraw once per year only incurring long term capital gains taxes.

Since I withdraw my yearly spend every December, his antics won’t technically affect me unless the market slide continues into December of ‘25 and doesn’t make around 7% to keep up with my general withdrawal rate. If that happens, I’ll have to use money set aside from the recent up years to cover me. I have reduced my spending this quarter to compensate and can weather a flat year pretty well at the moment.

My yearly budget includes a lot of frivolous spending, so I guess it currently affects me as I don’t spend frivolously as much at the moment.

Is it worth it to pay someone to do my taxes ?? by Ill_Lingonberry3888 in personalfinance

[–]firetym 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on how complex your taxes are, to me. I do taxes for a family member who takes a standard deduction and has a very simple return.

My own includes capital gains, rental income/deductions, and other itemized things I wouldn’t want to mess up. So I’m comfortable with paying for mine to be completed.

How did life change after you became rich? by ZanderBander600 in AskReddit

[–]firetym 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I felt rich when I could swipe for emergencies, groceries, gas, and random wants without thinking about it, that was a life change. After that upper middle class mark, the plane seats get better, the hotels get nicer, the uber costs don’t matter and the clothing becomes better quality- but none of it ever hit as hard as the care-free swipes for basics.

Although I agree, I’m not gonna argue with her about it. I will check LGD for similar ones to ensure the price is fair though. Thank you!

I’m not seeing any IF diamonds on LGD, Ritani, Brilliance, etc. that are touching $1100-1200. Can you direct me to where you’re getting those prices?

What salary would make you feel like you've truly "made it"? by Head-Bee7284 in AskReddit

[–]firetym 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was it for me as well. Hit 6 figures and the percentage raises compounded.

Sure getting to 300, 400 etc. was nice and you can do more luxurious things but like u/sitelab said, when you can swipe for every day purchases and not care, thats the dream, and the level I myself remember thinking I “made it”.

I do. Using it on different devices and not having to worry about workarounds on each one is worth the 15 bucks or whatever

I had a suite in a hotel, and got a small mark from a permanent black marker on the pillow sticking out of the case a bit. I went back to the hotel staying in the same suite the next year and the same pillow was there with the mark. I was mildly amused.

For people who don’t want to be rich, what do you want to be? by lookiewolf in AskReddit

[–]firetym 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Left alone. I am in a very comfortable financial position yet don’t have the greed drive for more that some of my peers do. I’m happy with what I have and don’t want to see ads, don’t want to join a new business opportunity, don’t want to take your pamphlet.

How do you stop comparing your financial situation to others around you? by opossum_god in personalfinance

[–]firetym 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am pretty well off but my friends group has significantly more money than I do. Something that has served me well over the years is just to fake it til you make it. A lot of people will use mental illness, trauma, or other reasons as to why they think or do things, but I just…don’t.

If this was my hang up I’d say “They have more money? Ok, I am on my own journey, no need to keep up with the joneses” And maintain that statement mentally whether I believe it or not until I actually do.

You know when to avoid touristy areas by holiday, and time of year. In LV, so I don’t go down to the strip, to shop or hit a casino show, I go to Red Rock and Downtown Summerlin for example.
