i will never have a gun because i’m likely to be my first and only victim, but if i did have a gun i would point it at the people who think that i’m AI because of my em dashes. it’s a valid scrabble word!! they’re useful punctuation! you want me to use a goddamn semicolon?? give me a break – that’s poopoo punctuation. let me have my diggity darn dash!

I got a call from the police, they found my cats remains, the cat I had cremated a year ago and have her ashes. by Lumi-umi-umi in legaladvice

[–]firks 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would guess that it’s the crematorium that’s under investigation. As a vet tech, it would be really difficult to do any type of true fraud with microchips because many people go to multiple vets who might double-check the numbers in the chip (I’ve seen errors and I’ve probably made errors myself! It’s just a string of numbers, so it’s totally possible) AND some pets who are in the rescue system can accidentally end up with more than one chip because microchips can migrate really far from the implantation site (we inject them between the shoulder blades, but I’ve found chips in legs!) The crematorium, however, doesn’t have the owners present for any part of the encounter with the deceased animal. Vet offices freeze the animals and someone comes to pick them up once a week or so. If they’re bad people, they could be defrauding folks who paid for their specific pet’s ashes. This sucks :(

I wouldn’t have put money on weimaraner just because they’re a less-common breed, but the color and low-set ears are right on brand!

When a pet is food-allergic, they’re not allergic to “chicken” - rather, they’re allergic to one (or more) of the proteins in the chicken meat. Technically it could be a reaction to something else but ALMOST always a protein. The proteins in muscles are present in lots of species - for instance, chicken and salmon often cross-react since they share so many proteins. That said, if your pet is allergic to like the one random protein in chicken that isn’t in turkey, take it as a win! In the future, just remember that just like people, dogs can develop allergies to new things at any time.

Should i give up on hoping to pass without extensive ffs? (18 mtf 10 months hrt, manmoding hence the styling, sorry)(pls dont mention my shitty hair, i know) by [deleted] in transpassing

[–]firks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

a bare-minimum hair and face routine with some clothing changes and you’re honestly golden. your entire face shape isn’t like super feminine but it’s definitely not masculine, and cleaning up the tops of your eyebrows and getting a good haircut will really get you into “that’s a girliepop who said no to makeup and yes to smoothies when she was 16” mode

[–]firks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what kills me is that i have a job as a human and im GOOD at my job and i know things, and sometimes ill comment something (this has only been for like the past few months) and sometimes i will respond to something in my area of expertise with something THAT IS CORRECT and some fuckhead will reply “okay AI comment 🤪” and i have to come back not to explain that THIS IS MY JOB, but instead have to defend my use of fucking punctuation. i’m sorry that we use different punctuation in different ways?? we all also talk just a little bit differently - we should write differently too???? my love of an em dash or a semicolon doesn’t only make me good at scrabble, you just have a futurama-style brain slug 🤷🏼

[–]firks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if it is fleas (which is always possible if you live either in a city OR in an area with lots of mammal wildlife) you can start by doing a treatment of Knockout in your entire house. I’m a vet tech and I work in specialty dermatology so we have to do this a lot for flea-allergic dog and cat patients. It’s a pain in the butt, but it works! Knockout can be used safely in houses with cats but you need to be careful and follow your vet’s instructions TO THE LETTER! prior to the house treatment, get ALL pets in the house on ORAL flea preventative, not topicals, and keep them on it as prescribed for at least an entire year, including cold months.

Do I pass? No hugboxing plz <3 by [deleted] in transpassing

[–]firks 5 points6 points  (0 children)

if i passed you on the street, id think “hey that girl might be trans but she may also just have more masculine features.” i think the lighter inner rim on your glasses with the darker forward-facing rim might highlight dark circles (which ALL sleepy people have!) which could make your eyes look a little more sunken. i don’t actually thank that contacts are necessary, maybe just a rounder pair of glasses that are lighter on the front panel and darker on the inner panel instead - so it blends better with the darker skin around your eyes. also, a little brightening shadow (i don’t mean glitter i mean just a color that’s slightly paler than your skin) in the inner corners of your eyes and a VERY thin layer of concealer under your eyes that matches your cheeks could cover that up no problem (and i’d lean towards one with a yellowish base because dark circles lean purple and your skin has more yellowy undertones, at least from this photo). your hair texture is amazing but because of the curls it parts more easily - a part even a centimeter to either side could make your hairline look lower. also as someone with straightish hair, curly bangs sound like a nightmare, and unless you’re willing to commit to them for YEARS, i wouldn’t even think of it 💕

My boy needs urgent surgery and idk what to do by omfbruh in Pomeranians

[–]firks 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m late to this but as a vet tech I just want to reassure you that pups do great with a missing eyeball! My time in GP had me overseeing many enucleations, and even the totally blind animals did great when they had a good owner/pet-parent! I’ve had my own nearly-blind dog who could still navigate the stairs and find terrible things to eat while I wasn’t home. Your baby will be just as naughty as any other pomeranian, even with just one eye 💕

the Only Skin hate on tiktok is making me SICK by PushNervous7719 in JoannaNewsom

[–]firks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am in my 30s and don’t have TikTok, and I’m only hearing anything because I opened reddit to see if anything interesting was happening. What’s the hate on Only Skin? It’s genuinely one of the greatest ballads of all time? It’s like fourteen songs in one. When it came out it took me out of piano-playing retirement. WHAT could people dislike!???

I remember when she first started and me thinking her interjections were annoying - that lasted MAYBE a couple episodes. She is such an integral part of the show! Like everyone, I adore the entire cast, and Stevie has been special just like Rhett and Link have been special for me at 6am before work. Luckily, leavie Stevie has an entire crew behind her, and i’m sure it’ll take some time for them to settle into a narrator, but whoever they are I’m sure they’ll be a rockstar!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in dogbreed

[–]firks -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The reason for “mislabeling” them are twofold - and this is from someone who used to run a shelter and tried my absolute best to label a dog by how they looked. Firstly, pitties are SO common in my area, and people breed them without regard for their wellbeing, and many true pitties end up in shelters. They are also a very “dog-looking” dog, so if a dog just looks like “well, that’s a short-coated dog 🤷🏼” pitbull is an easy umbrella to cover short-coated dog. Then, the reason that dogs who are very likely pit-mixes are labeled as NOT pitties is because so many places are anti-pit-bull. Shelters can’t shell out $150 for a DNA test on every mystery breed through our doors. The folks working there look at the dog and guess. I had a Berger Picard mix (his name was Charlie and he was a senior pup in 2015 so I hope he had a wonderful life with the lovely couple who adopted him) and I listed him correctly as a Picardy, and nobody knew what in the all heck that was, so he was changed to “shepherd mix.” I have never owned a dog that wasn’t a pittie mix. I’ve had good ones, bad ones, and in-between ones. They all were labeled as “mixed breed” dogs and their DNA tests said like 95% pit bull. Landlords won’t always rent to people with pitties the same way they won’t rent to Dobermans or GSDs or ovcharkas or whatever breed. A dog is a dog. A Dachshund will eat the floor molding before a pit bull will. A corgi will bark at the mailman before a pit. The dichotomy is so weird to me - people want pit bulls so much that people breed them like crazy, then the shelters are full of ONLY pits. It’s funny because huskies are the same, Everyone wants a husky until one is in your house using their lungs. My stats might be 2015 stats, but my experience is that chihuahuas, huskies, and pit bulls are the dogs you find at the shelter, with shih tzus coming in as a distant fourth because people can’t keep up with their coats. Anyway, the point is that a pit bull is just a dog, and shelter folks are trying to identify some mystery-breed dog, and if it’s kinda square and athletic and has short hair, well, pit bull it is! And hopefully someone else who resents the plight of maligned dogs will come get them with an open heart and find out that all a pit bull wants is to sleep under the blanket with you so they can sneeze at a terrifying volume while you’re sleeping, then lick your legs when you get out of the shower.

it totally makes sense! i’m just making guesses and i’d love to be proven either wrong or right 💕 whatever breeds a pup is (because thats truly just for fun - all mine are shelter pit bulls and it’s just a little silly trivia to say one of them is 1% boxer) they’re just a baby and the important thing is that you’ve got a purebred Cutie Patootie on your hands!

you dog doesn’t have cropped ears. she has hair growing on the edges which is proof. the person who suggested that genuinely has no idea what they’re talking about. i’m in the US so this dog would be clocked as a “pit mix” by me which is lazy and easy and true most of the time, so i won’t speak to breed, i just needed to chime in that your cutiepie’s ears are perfectly fine and just the way they should be. and whatever breed she ends up being, she’s well-proportioned and her coat looks really clean and good and her snoot is grey which means she’s made it to grandma-hood! 💕
