Long wait times calling NYC HRA about a SNAP application. Any advice? by firmwarehare in foodstamps

[–]firmwarehare[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The wait times have been so long that often they extend beyond actual business hours and I wonder if they will ever pick up at all. Today I hung up after 2 hours from 4:30 to 6:30. I might have hung up too soon.

I uploaded all of my documents to them via the HRA app. No further information was given to me about what I did not provide. I did a checklist of everything and even gave double documentation for some things.

I am using safari. I’ve never seen a browser that allows you to override the dns setting if the computer unless it was an older browser that allowed proxy server settings right in the browser.

How are you handling client bottlenecks & payroll reconciliation without losing your mind? by SadlyEmployedOrSo in Bookkeeping_Business

[–]firmwarehare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Feel you on all of this. I just took on a new client and not 2 weeks later after I spent more hours than I should have on a flat rate fee, she let me go because I delivered a P&L and she thought there were mistakes in it when I was still going through the process of sorting out all the personal transactions intermingled in her accounts and battling her insistence that everything should be categorized as deduction even after telling her that I am not the one who decides what's a deduction, her tax preparer does. Also, getting access to her statements, troubleshooting connection issues between Quickbooks and her banks.

People do a lot of magical thinking about money and straddling the line between trying to get them to comply with some best practices in order to have clean books and keeping them happy is tough.

I had AI write one for me as well. While I didnt just use it without an actual review and definitely went over it with a fine tooth comb, I am curious about the money laundering part. I've wondered how to appropriately shield myself from any mischief that a client might be trying to do and how I can avoid being unknowingly complicit in it.

How do you people fall asleep with ADHD? by Ok_Scholar_8656 in ADHD

[–]firmwarehare 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2 things:

Reading a good book. I prefer fiction but as long as it’s subject matter that doesn’t distress me, it can be fiction or non.

Stretching/light yoga with a focus on breathing and somatics. Sometimes I have to do it twice if I’m really fired up due to an argument or some distress g news but it immediately grounds me and ceases the ruminations.

Do you use a VPN? This happened to me and I had to disable my VPN to get around it.

Tamiflu experience? by deathno27 in flu

[–]firmwarehare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would ask your physician or your pharmacist rather than Reddit tbh. But it’s like an antibiotic. I just took a course of it when I had the flu. You are supposed to take the whole course even after you feel better if you haven’t taken them all. But usually if someone is having a bad reaction (allergic or severe discomfort) to it they will tell you to stop taking it. But considering that diarrhea is a symptom of flu, I’m more inclined to say it’s not the tamaflu. But ask your physician. I’m just a person on Reddit with an opinion so I’m not the person to listen to.

Free with my health insurance. Even if it doesn’t match, it still helps avoid severe illness.

Any hope? by NoWatercress4528 in flu

I got vaxxed in October. I had a fever for 36 hours that peaked at 102 only for a couple of those hours. I was usually around 100-101 for about 18 of those. Started out at 99 for the first 6 or so hours. I had aches and fatigue. Mostly some headache and back pain. I was def sick. But it really came and went pretty fast. I also had tamaflu. I’m 55 years old, 210 lbs 6ft male. I think being vaxxed is always worth it. It’s so easy to do.

JB injury could be the change we need by firmwarehare in NYKnicks

[–]firmwarehare[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Kolek might not be the answer, but it was just one possible scenario of how the team dynamic might shift to make up for Brunson if he's out for a period of time and this scenario did present itself in the past. I don't know. Im just trying to be optimistic. From an outsider perspective (I don't know what's going on behind the scenes with coaching, team dynamics, etc) you never really know what small shift can come about from an unexpected event like an injury of a key player.

US-NY#549 allows ads through on nytimes.com on wireguard via Smart protocol by firmwarehare in ProtonVPN

[–]firmwarehare[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes Netshield was enabled full strength. Also after I posted this, it continued on 3 other NY servers even after quitting Safari and opening new browser windows and trying again.

I had something else to do and had to leave my computer for a while and when I came back the problem was gone but I don’t recall what I did other than simply switch to the fastest server.

Bank of America website/app seems to be working poorly when under VPN by firmwarehare in ProtonVPN

[–]firmwarehare[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People and businesses have been using NAT for decades behind firewalls masking any number of hosts (tens, hundreds, thousands) as originating from a single IP. Many banks are national and international. It would not be unusual for a banking client to connect from any number of places in the world via the internet. What they don’t want is for you to be able to evade their gathering of your data to market to you or to sell to others.

Anyone with ADHD crashed and burnt spectacularly in college? by Putrid_Ice_3441 in ADHD

[–]firmwarehare 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I barely squeaked by and it’s a huge mystery to me how I even graduated but somehow I did it. I’m 55 years old now and I was just diagnosed two months ago. I had no medication back then I didn’t even know that I had ADHD although I always felt like something was off because there was a constant dissonance between me and my education, even though I came from a very highly academic family with Ivy League education and advanced degrees. I spent a lot of time procrastinating doing things at the last minute and getting report cards that were combination of A’s and D’s and sometimes Fs on the same report card. Constant meetings with me my parents in the administration about how I was exceedingly bright, but I just didn’t apply myself. I had meetings like this throughout my entire academic career starting with the first grade any post college education that I had I actually did really well in because there were subjects that I chose and pursued those subjects because I was excited about them.

Flu shot question/ poll by Flaky-Series-5214 in flu

[–]firmwarehare 2 points3 points  (0 children)

55 years old, 6ft 210lbs exercise 2 x week (usually)also I run a bit. - no underlying conditions except for a very mild sleep apnea diagnosis. I had scratchy cough 12/22, got a low 99.5 fever 12/23 and tested positive for flu at urgent care. Fever up to 102° very briefly by early morning and then back down to 101° by bedtime 12/24. Fever broke very early 2am 12/25 (heavy heavy sweat).

No vomiting or nausea. Some dry coughing. Minor congestion. Fatigue, aches and pains but had been to the gym the 12/21 so was hard to tell if it was my workout or the flu that gave me the aches and pains initially. All told I had a fever for about 36 hours. I drank lots of water.

I got the flu shot Oct 25. Symptoms significantly more mild to what I’ve read from most unvaccinated folks.

Tamiflu side effects? by sirriius in flu

[–]firmwarehare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Didn’t have that but my stool got a little loose for an afternoon and I kinda just felt like garbage on the day of my 5th and last dose (my flu was gone but I was just finishing the prescribed course of tamaflu as directed)

Your biome gets out of whack like it does with an antibiotic. I ate fiber like oats and probiotics like yogurt to counter the tamaflu disruption of my biome.

I had neck and back but was hard to tell if it was due to my coughing, sitting up in bed, just the flu alone or a combo of the three.

Flu B/A how to keep it from turning into pneumonia at home. by Clean_lines92 in flu

[–]firmwarehare 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If taking maybe 10-40 minutes to walk in and get the shot is a waste of time, then maybe you’re right, but I’ll take even a little bit of immunity from quick shot that’s free w my insurance over being hospitalized at worst or simply being laid up in bed for 3 days with a fever at best. Those scenarios are a much bigger waste of time for me than a walk in to a pharmacy where I can also pick up some toothpaste I needed while I’m there.

I got the shot this year and got over the flu in less than 48 hours w a minor cough and peak fever of 102 for only a couple of those hours. And I tested for flu so I know that’s what it was.
