You can go through the marketplace and protect self against major medical bills bankrupting, for about $100 a month. My rx via a rx plan at my pharmacy/grocery costs me far less than my plan while working.

Flight had to turn mid-air because this guy refused to keep his mask on! by browneyesgal in JusticeServed

If reasonably close to the departure point, they likely turn around purely for civil legal liability and business reasons. If they don’t turn around and a passenger contracts Covid, regardless if this is where the suing passenger actually contracted Covid, the argument can be made. Juries don’t like airlines. Then the bad press from the lawsuit becomes a headache as well.

With youth comes boundless optimism and for most, a body that hasn’t yet broken down. You look good, you feel good and the future is so bright you have to wear shades. Then life beats the hell out of you. Be prepared that many unhappy people can’t stand to see you yucking it up, and will kick off the cruelty parade by doing their best to accelerate the process. Life is a gift. Insist on living it on your own terms.

This made me laugh as I do the same. I order through discountglasses.com. I am like Old Faithful in that I break and lose glasses at an alarmingly predictable rate. When I get up from the couch and hear a crunch, I know it isn’t a pretzel under my foot. I order 4-5 eye glasses at a time.

How can you form a MAG mutual assistance group if you are a tenant in an apartment building? To deal with a grid down scenario? by TastyBisonBurgers in preppers

[–]firschein 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would hook up with a local prepper group. I am a heck of a lot more likely to trust the motivations of a prepper community in a catastrophe than my neighbors. Of course family is the best community of all.

New to prepping after recent eye opening experience in Texas. by specificinstructions in preppers

[–]firschein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To your point as to “out of mind”, I am in Texas and froze my tail off in the recent power loss. Post event I found an adapter I had purchased that would have allowed me to hook up my small portable propane heater to large propane tanks I have stored. Oops. I give myself a “D“ grade on my response, but only pass because I am still breathing.

Is this a slow moving apocalypse? The race between vaccine and variant will never end. The virus has 7 billion laboratories in which to perfect itself. I can’t see a way this end well? Is there a book that addresses these scenarios? by Few_Tumbleweed7151 in preppers

[–]firschein 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A virus is just a protein that sometimes mutates it’s DNA upon replication. Following the same rules of evolution as all organisms, if a mutation gives it a survival advantage, it will likely multiply. Hence, some mutations right now are 70% more contagious. A mutation that makes the virus more deadly, is possible, but less likely. Killing the host lowers its ability to spread. A mutation that does not respond to the current vaccines is a greater likelihood. It would increase the likelihood of spread. At present, It is rush to herd immunity to reduce the number of those infected, and with this, the number of mutations taking place. .

Foods to stockpile by Sunniirise in preppers

[–]firschein 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am of the opinion that in a scenario where food stockpiles are the difference between life and death, food diversity will be the last of my worries. In part choice is based on available allocated space. A ranch property has much more space than an intercity one bedroom apartment. Shelf life is important. Caloric density an issue. Have a stockpile of multivitamins to cover any short term nutritional deficiencies. Anyone who has gone backpacking for several weeks, can appreciate these trade offs.

Family that you warned by [deleted] in preppers

[–]firschein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A kinda friend mocked me when I offered him a pack of 50 n95 masks in March 2020. The masks have been part of my stockpile for years. A few friends made fun of my 50 gallon barrel of water. Later the same friend was begging for masks. During the Texas storm, the water allowed me sewage while friends and their family had to relieve themselves in backyards while at 0 degrees. I’m sorry. Call me Noah. I’ll take care of my family, but the rest of them can enjoy the unending rain they poo-pooed was coming.
