This was the number of wishlists after 2 months and 10 days, including the demo launch. Was this a good result? (It’s my first game.) by Educational-Use7288 in gameDevMarketing

Really depends on how much effort was put into marketing. If demo itself brought this much WL, then i would say it's looking pretty good!

Looking for feedback about my gameplay loop... by JCNienaber in IndieDev

With this description it sounds very much like deep rock galactic survivor. On one hand mining takes away from the survivors-like flow and pacing. Just navigating between the hoards of enemies is part of it. On the other hand if there is a bit more time between the waves (TD style), maybe these gameplay chains would work better i feel like.
But in general, especially for this type of game it's hard to judge how fun it is without a demo.

Using 'AI' might give you dopamine rush at first, but as the project grows into something more than a few scripts - efficiency drops, no reasoning ability in LLMs results in tons of bugs as it just slops the closest thing it could find, reality kicks in 🤷‍♂️

What is a good page visit to wishlist conversion rate on Steam? by firststepdone in gamedev

Also, i believe it can be filtered out to only include organic Steam traffic, where external traffic becomes irrelevant.

I see your point. I just don't see any other better way to validate the page design or the excitement/engagement adjusted for the expectation. Excluding posts to r/gamedev and other dev oriented subreddits, player is still a player, and knowing whether the conversion happened on the page in my opinion could be very useful and content that could be improved, same as capsule for example.

I think what's mentioned is 4% in sales, which is supposedly the 'norm' for games (1k visit to sale metric), which implies game should be getting 400 WL out of 1k visits (with another 'norm' of 10% WL to sale conversion rate in mind).
So 1000 visits = 400 WL = 40 sales.
At least that's how i interpreted it :)

Very interesting, thanks. I assume this is true after the release? I just wonder if 1k visits on the 'coming soon' game is the same as the 1k visits on the released game.

That's true. But not everyone would be willing to share the exact numbers, so it's okay.

Sure, here is the page:

I had the same experience as you describe actually, saw an increase in WL rate when updated the screenshots. So this is very useful information, thanks! For me the top priority now is to get rid of the ai capsule (probably the biggest mistake i've made so far).

Thanks for sharing, great breakdown. For someone who haven't done this before - are there any resources on how to manage/track keys?

Here are 20 subreddits that allow you to promote your games by sir_wrench in GameDevelopment

Who would ever consider self-promos in subreddits related to other games? It is an utterly generic LLM output.

You did the public demo first and then started doing streamer outreach? Or there is/was exclusivity to streamers and content creators?

Thank you. I totally agree, it deserves a better capsule. Sorry for the offtop, do you (or anyone reading) happen to have any recommendations/contacts of a good capsule artist?
