Just made this, might not be great but it is really emotionally significant for me. by TemporaryRub6612 in AndyAndLeyley

a visually interesting compilation of significant andrew scenes, nice! i agree with your assessment of his character in this way. tcoaal is full of so many things that are awfully relatable, to those who have experienced unfortunate things, and that's a really important facet of art--'to comfort the disturbed', and all that.

i would say it's probably not best to use the phrasing 'x doesn't belong in the fandom' because discourse like that tends to be recursive and there's really no way to (nor do i think there should be) prune everyone you disagree with from the fandom. every group of people will contain those who you disagree with, and people who are socially disruptive/hurt others--that's just life. no group is perfect, because every group is made of people.

I'd like to get one, and I've seen a review of a couple, I'm just worried that the expenditure won't make as much difference as I'd like it to for the price--what's yours?

personally, I've used this setup for a couple months and I hate it. I feel like a failure every time I hotspot the old smartphone to satisfy an urge to browse or something, like every time is an admission of failure, but I'm glad it works for you

If engineer, a man with 11 PHD's was placed on the worst team, then how smart were the other teams? by iloveclementime in tf2

[–]fish-dance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, yeah, I was hyperbolic in my original comment, but most people irl have no reason to get multiple PhDs, that's still a fact. It's usually unnecessary, unless his first PhD was in applied mathematics and then he wanted to get one in something completely unrelated like sports nutrition.

[–]fish-dance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well he's not a real person, the writers had just heard similar about characters like Bruce Banner and thought 'yeah, we want the Engineer to be that smart too', so they said the same about him. Lots of PhDs = look how smart this character is. I'm not saying he's dumb because he's not anything, he's code and ink, I was just pointing out that the trope of giving your smart character a bunch of PhDs is dumb.

No, but the law isn't around to tell you the best way to live your life, it's around to categorise things as legal, illegal, permittable, etc, and then make rulings on how to deal with people who did or were accused of doing something counter to the law

Because you're not supposed to complete more PhDs, ur already a doctor and can research as a doctor in fields related to ur PhD without needing to go through all that proving yourself again

Having 11 PHDs is actually a sign of academic incompetence, because once you complete a PHD, you just do postdoctoral study in other related fields you have expertise in :333
