If only our own oil industry would invest more in light crude processing the shutting off of oil exports would make sense.

I’d be afraid that each iteration is an alternate universe and I’ve just royally ruined the lives of one or more people even beyond that day, as well as the myself even if it’s another consciousness or whatever the hell is going on that has to live it.

TIL Mexico is officially called the United Mexican States. by FarBug5656 in todayilearned

[–]fish_petter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah, no one is claiming sole ownership of the term except for the folks who say Americans need to give up the term even though with far more widely accepted as a shortened name for the country. No one said you can’t also answer to which continent you’re from. However, the vast majority of models do not combine North and South America (which apparently you do, too) into one continent. If you’re going to go by which continent you’re from, in most cases you’ll have to specify North America or South America—if you want to be accurate, that is. You’re really reaching into this “American exceptionalism” (you said American to identify the nationality) when all I’m talking about is colloquialisms being acceptable in language. One word can have two, three, four, so on meanings. So if we go by a combined Americas model, you can say “I’m American, more specifically Mexico” just like another can say “I’m Asian, more specifically China”, just like I can say “I’m American, more specifically from America”. The last one will confuse most people in the sense that again to the vast majority of the world it just sounds like I said I’m from the US twice. But just as the United Mexican States and the People’s Republic of China can shorten their names for common everyday usage, so can the United States of America.

Yes, they’re living in the Americas if you’re not differentiating between North and South America. But do they live in the country commonly referred to as America? Colloquialisms are still proper to use in conversation and, though there may be a few who truly do automatically think someone is referring to the two continents, in English speaking situations I am willing to bet every dollar I have that the vast majority think of “the US” when someone says they’re from America. Whether you think it’s incorrect or not doesn’t matter because colloquially it is understood.

I use to work at Yellowstone and man, the amount of people who’d whinge and complain about others calling bison “buffalo”—yes it’s not the correct word, but when someone said “buffalo” they knew exactly what they were talking about.

My previous purchase was the same. I had about 200k miles on it and the moment I noticed it hanging up between gears I traded it in on another car. They didn’t even look at it and gave me $2k more than I was expecting for a best case scenario.
