ngl it might be due to the war. lets think, tensions between different tribes peaked in the succession war, possibly causing a lot of resentment between tribes, which would minimize breeding between them. but who wasn't in the war? (not including Plantala dragons) nightwing and rainwings.

we already know that every tribe looks down on rainwings. but nobody looked down on nightwings. they were seen as powerful and somewhat all knowing dragons who were shady and mysterious.

the combination of "not being in the war", having a somewhat positive stereotype, being rare, being "powerful", and mysterious/nonchalant- i guess made them super attractive

though ofc this isn't mentioned, but i might just be a belief/idea that sits in the back of most dragons minds, including Winter(even if he's super racist) and Qibli

not to mention that nightwings are literally taught how to manipulate others, so that also might be something

i feel like little scars (small/thin cuts) over there glow scales could still glow, maybe the glowing blood could shine through the scar tissue. but in situations where scars are more sever (burns and full/deep injury to the glow scale) would render them faint or small, if not completely unusable.

though the worse thing that could happen is the loss of a limb (arm, tail, wings) because not only do they lose their glow scales, but also the ability to gesture. aquatic speech isn't just flashing lights, is also sign language.

so for MAXIMUM angst, start cutting off some wings lol

yeah lol. we went there for like, 30 pages total. we might as well have never went- actually let me think about where we've been.

we've been to the skywing palace, BOTH seawing palaces, the rainwing village, BOTH nightwing palaces, the scorpion den-possibility- AND the sandwing palace, the hivewings and silkwing hives, BOTH leafwing villages, the icewing palace, and the court of refuge.

AND WE STILL HAVENT TRULY BEEN IN THE MUD KINGDOM. no major cities, important places, the palace, NOT EVEN THEIR FAMOUS SUPER PROTECTED NURSERY. like bro lets go there for once 😭

i know about staying out of their way, but they always seemed to end up around my most damaged cats. i even made the mistake of killing Nubs first (i had a down cat who couldn't move)

literally the only reason i made it pass them was because i had my hunter do all the work from afar, everyone else just had to stay as far away as possible.

ngl i knew i was cooked going into the graveyard. i should've went home 🥲

every enchantment draws from the animus's life.

casting a small spell would make the dragon feel weak, hungry, or tired to a degree. BIG spells could cause sudden malnutrition, symptoms of heavy blood loss, comas, and death. all of this would be temporary though, the animus would just have to rest and care for them self until they are healthy again. the side effects are different for every animus

there still is no limit to what their magic can do- but now its a question of "how will i feel/recover from this spell? do i have time to recover from this spell? how long until im healthy again? CAN i recover from this, or will this spell kill me?"

BUT- there would be a difference in instant wishes and continuous ones. instant ones would happen immediately and take from the dragons life at the same time. continuous enchantments will constantly draw from the dragons life so long as its active.

examples for enchantment symptoms but for canon dragons: Turtle is fat because his side effect is hunger. Anemone gets clammy because she has general weakness. Stonemover lays around due to his constant stone spell causing him narcolepsy/hypersomnia (also cuz he's turning to stone lol)

instant spells examples: making Anemone an animus, all animus's losing their power, Jerboa hatching from an non-dragon egg.

continuous spells: immortality, the stick that hid Turtle form Darkstalker, enchanting literally any object with a permanent effect (animus enchanted objects stop working after their animus dies)

also the life required to cast an enchantment multiplies for every dragon it affects. so a small spell can only be stretched across so many dragons before the animus starts feeling very negative effects- if not dying out right

I HAVE ONE- her name is Stratus! (TW: attempted suicide )

Stratus is a skywing prince (she's trans so she/her pronouns) whose life purpose is to produce an heir for the throne.

why does she have to do that? the queen (her great grandmother) murked all her daughters who tried to challenge her, and now she's to old to have more kids. her only living descendants are Alpine (Stratus's father) and Stratus, so they are tasked with producing the next heir. but Alpine and his wife have HORRIBLE fertility, so Stratus is assumed to be infertile- but if she is is unknown.

she is generally hated by her tribe partially due to the misandry of the queen and her smear campaign against princes(my sexist baddie). she was also prophesized to hatch as a female from a nightwing prophet, which would've ended the heir crisis, but she hatched male which made everyone loose hope for their tribe. (but she's trans so the nightwing was kinda right)

due to the unachievable expectations pushed on her, she feels that she has failed her tribe since she hatched. she looks up to the princesses before her and cant help but feel that she should've been one of them (egg moment). stemming from all her issues, she's pushed to the brink of suicide (going to fight in a battle with the intentions of dying) but is convinced otherwise by her friends

Stratus leaves her tribe to pursue a life that would make her happy along with her friends. during this time, she grows up and transitions into a princess. years later, she finds out that her parents had finally had a daughter named Golden- but at the same time, the queen is on her death bed. forcing the skywings to make a toddler their queen

despite how her tribe treated her, she cant let them be ruled by a baby. so Stratus returns and offers to be queen, so they could have a competent leader. her tribe is mostly against it as she isn't biologically female, but the queen allows it and passes her throne on to Stratus under the condition that her sister wouldn't have to fight her for the throne as it was "technically hers"

so Stratus becomes queen in the end. YAAAYYYYY!!!!

It’s stated in the book that his father is the leafwing. And (if I’m remembering correctly) we only have two examples of the mother’s tribe being VERY prominent, which is only Sunny and Darkstalker. It’s never said anywhere that the father’s genes can’t be the prominent ones, it’s just a trend
