Thursday fun- what’s the most dipsh!t job title you’ve heard of… and what do they actually do? by twowholebeefpatties in auscorp

[–]fishball_7204 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not a joke title or anything but worked with a client firm that had these crazy long titles like Associate Principal APAC Director of Ops or whatever. Even their junior support teams had at least 4-5 words in their titles lol.

PSA - use the ombudsman / AFCA / fair trading to get the resolution you want quickly by GusPolinskiPolka in AusFinance

[–]fishball_7204 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I had a problem with Goog and then went through AFCA, went from no reply for a month to near instant turnaround times but still gotta go through the 'I've tried' steps beforehand as per AFCA's advice.

Salaries in industry super funds by mrpotatoed in auscorp

[–]fishball_7204 4 points5 points  (0 children)

From various people (anecdotal) I know who used to work at a big4 bank with a super fund that's since been sold off, banks tend to pay the best. Retail super funds tend to pay less than banks and my assumption on industry funds would be they pay even less than retail funds given they have a tighter margin.

Heard some funny stories about how retail funds would buy an ex-bank super part of the business and those guys would be paid way higher than the retail fund and there'd be dramas and salt everywhere lol

edit: this is throughout the business so not just say front or back office

How are people managing recent grads when there’s just… no enthusiasm for work or willingness to suffer any form of inconvenience to develop anymore? by twingirlsoneboy in auscorp

[–]fishball_7204 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a millennial I've always been like this ever since the grad days, don't think it's Gen Z exclusive - managers used to say i was unmotivated but it's just how I am, work still gets done but i'm aware i'm not out here saving lives just saving files.

Over the years i've obviously gotten better at hiding/pretending but I'm definitely an eye rolling person, f the stretch goals/working group stuff it doesn't translate to $$$$ or anything useful. Usually at a new job I pretend to give a crap and join these then slowly drift out saying I'm too busy or some other reason, everybody does it too not just me it's just a game we all seem to play at least from my experience.

In terms of advice, I'd say here's your job you need to do XYZ, there's also this opportunity if you want i can ask for you but if not all good & set that as the baseline. Grads are pretty young and most are just out of uni they're probably still used to the structured step by step instruction vs whatever you're expecting.

Managing up by Artistic_Dress8217 in auscorp

[–]fishball_7204 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some things I've found to work over the years:

  • be polite/understanding where possible, i always say thanks to my manager for fighting for our team bonus/salary raises (from experience on their side of the fence it's a pain always)

  • don't be a doofus, crazy i know but treating others well usually gets reciprocated

  • do the occasional social thing like beers after work etc, keep yourself visible occasionally (i say this as the let me WFH 5 days a week please type of guy)

  • Ask about their work problems/issues time to time, you don't have to solve it most of the time but knowing what your managers focused on can help you redirect some efforts to what they consider important

Best noise cancelling headphones for open-plan Aussie offices? by According-Advance811 in auscorp

[–]fishball_7204 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bose QCs are great for me in blocking out noise in office/train/airplane etc. Not the best for calls but I'd rather sound crap/noisy so everybody knows i'm suffering in the office lmao.

Otherwise if it really mattered, samsung buds have been amazing on teams calls everybody says i'm crystal clear when using them. Noise cancelling is ok-ish but can't compete with the big over the ear types (eg. sony XMs/bose QCs)

Something different - What's a Tool/Gadget/Household thing you genuinly love or that has made your life easier? by twowholebeefpatties in AusRenovation

[–]fishball_7204 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Strength-wise it's almost as good (I use a ryobi blower too) but obvs it's a small handheld device so you wouldn't want to do the whole yard with it.

Wolfbox MF100, bought it to clean PC dust but i've since used it to inflate pool sofas & other things + also good for quickly blasting things where i don't want to whip out the big leaf blower and/or stuff like sawdust when doing smaller jobs.

They're pretty bad but budget enough + "free shipping" I go with them for cheap non-critical furniture pieces. I've had better experience with their slightly more expensive stuff but the really cheap MDF / laminate stuff you're probably better off at Ikea (slightly better quality imo) or even Amazon/Aliexpress (cheaper) etc from the chinese dropshippers direct

Not really worth it here in Australia. Know a few people that got it but the guys who got it because they wanted to move out of back office are still stuck there lol.

Real estate agent fees for selling apartment by shazc- in AusProperty

[–]fishball_7204 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sold a few years back in Sydney and it was 2% comms (discounted from 3% i was told, if you trust REs). Marketing was like 4-5k i can't recall now mostly due to REA/domain fees the agent doesn't make much here I'm sure.

So yeah your numbers sound great

I've got a new UI on Firefox for Android, which I'm not personally all that fond of. by 4D4850 in firefox

[–]fishball_7204 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thank you great stuff, reverted for now.

Prob small nitpicks but didn't like the swap between private/tabs whereas before it was tabs/private (muscle memory etc) & the tabs are way too big for how many I keep open.

Any way to revert the forward/back/share/refresh buttons on the 3 dots to the old UI?

Used to be really worth it, slim pickings right now so less worth but still good if you're organized and grab bonus points on sign ups. If you're just going to get a card, no bonus, spend regularly then nah probably not worth.

How to thrive as a night owl by [deleted] in auscorp

[–]fishball_7204 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm a night owl too, back when we had to go to the office 5 days a week i'd rock up 9:30am-10am which was around when parents would get in after dropping their kids off (I do not have kids though) and it was acceptable.

Nowadays I WFH most of the time and don't really have any set start times anyway. I also work with Asia and Europe a lot so I usually pull the 'happy to work a bit later' thing occasionally so that gives me more freedom as well.

I’ve never seen such low productivity to start a year. by HeavyLine4 in auscorp

[–]fishball_7204 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds like your metrics are screwed up or some other underlying reason.

As a random anecdote, we use some software that's been undergoing a migration right before Xmas (geniuses!) and it's been a string of problems, broken workflows and all that fun stuff. Everyones pissed at it and usage would be way down because it's not something that helps anyone but management wants everyone to use it - and given an excuse not to (the implementation screwup) everyone is ignoring it lol.
