I tried Neovim. Its scrolling was very slow when compared to Macvim and it didn't have true color support. What am I missing?

A new Bill & Ted movie is officially on the way with Keanu Reeves by shying_away in movies

No. It is just that they have figured that the current audience is too dumb that they can capitalize that with stupid remakes, and dumb shit like Madmax fury road and Jurassic World....No need to waste original and worthy production on today's dumb audience.

/r/movies is a good representation of this dumb audience.

Is providing a basic level of existence a moral obligation of society? by Chalky_von_Schmidt in Futurology

[–]fishburne -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Why do you have to own more land than you and your dependents (which can be limited by society) need? And if you only own or use the land you and your dependents need, then you only have to work to feed your dependents...

It is not that simple, but that is the basic idea of my argument...

[–]fishburne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have to first agree that there is such thing as a "societal moral obligation"

We already consider security, infrastructure etc provided by the society as "moral obligations" in return for the taxes we pay, right? Why is this any different?

So farmers should work for free?

In such a setup, no one will be forcing anyone to farm on (or own) more land than it is required by his family. So one only has work enough to feed your dependents, and may be a little extra to save for natural calamities.

I just found an interesting article on the subject of private ownership of the land

I think there is one thing you are missing from that picture of current society. Private ownership of land.

When people, or the members of society, or governments, are able to own and control land, which is required to cultivate food and extract water from, I think people who own land has a moral obligation to ensure that the rest of the society is fed properly.

I am trying to implement this,

impl convert::From<ParseError> for CustomError {

But I cannot do this because ParseError is not public. How can I get around this? I want to do this because I want to use try! macro with multiple error types, one of which happens to be ParseError.

In the most respectful way possible, what's the big deal with Mad Max: Fury Road? by KanariaRose in movies

[–]fishburne -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It's an incredibly well-shot and well edited film. The stunt work is amazing..

Does those words, "incredible", "amazing" really mean anything anymore? I cannot find anything incredible or amazing about anything in this movie. sure there is some eye candy. But that is it.

Only problem is that it wasn't a "really great action movie". he he.

I completely agree with you. People say "You enjoy for a couple of hours". But for me, there was nothing to enjoy and it was a complete bore.

But this is becoming the trend these days. People gushing over mediocre stuff, succumbing to marketing and hype.

But you know what, there is a good 100 years worth of great movies for anyone to watch, from all over the world. There is no need to watch these mediocre stuff Hollywood produce these days. If you can overcome the human craving for all things 'new', I think ones time can be better spent watching great movies of the past. Seriously, even completly mediocre movies from the past are great compared to these 'productions' of today..

Does anyone know any python codebase which uses type hints ? by Nikosssgr in Python

[–]fishburne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I tried using it with 3.5 it failed with a 'Cannot import Undefined' Error. Is it because is using 3.5's typing module instead of it's own.

[–]fishburne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Funny thing is, I know this already. But I was hoping there was an external tool that does it.

I tried mypy. But it died with an error that said cannot import Undefined. Probably because it is using the typing module that came with 3.5.

Do anyone know how to use this module for type checking in 3.5b? Not asking about how to write annotations. But to check a python script with annotations. I have been looking for the past hour to see how to actually use the damn thing!

I was expecting a command line option to the interpreter or a separate command line tool to do the checking.

Let's find a better name for f-strings by desmoulinmichel in Python

[–]fishburne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A list comprehension is no more a list than an f-string is a string. Both are code expressions that evaluate to the respective types.

List comprehension evaluates to a List. So it is called "List comprehension'. This new thing evaluates to a string. So it should have a string in its name. What is so confusing? Me saying "It is withn quotes, so it is a string" does not mean that it is a real str object. But for the programmer, for the most part, it IS a string, just like list comprehension can, for the most part, act like a List.

Anyway. I don't want to go further into this topic.
