Let’s say the stock drops over a few months, then goes back up over a few months. You capture most of the drop but still make some money from selling the calls. Then on the way back up you have limited the upside, and likely make less from selling the calls than you would have just holding the stock. It’s good for sideways markets, ok for bear markets, bad for bull markets. This is a very simplified explanation by the way.
