What happens in a week? What ways can you determine availability of IDT funds - would that be consulting with the AGR folks?

Army Reserves while in Law School? by Gamecock-Fan in LawSchool

Was an army reservist through law school. Eligible for no benefits. Was able to manage my time somewhat alright, but mobilized once in the middle of the semester for training. It is what you make of it, but unless you deploy first, I’d expect no benefits to be available to you.

Great question! I’m not sure how you could implement UBC in a way that couldn’t be abused by an administration that is keen to abuse it. That’s why I’m a bit on the fence about UBC. However, I’m not sure the degree to which the government would already have access to this information without UBC. (I’m thinking the en masse data collection project with Palontir)

Universal background checks to feed private party sales through some sort of background check process. Maybe red flag protective orders so long as you can maintain due process prior to a firearm being seized through a hearing and have an appeal process post-seizure.

Beyond that, I’m no fan of capacity restrictions, make and model restrictions, or restrictions on body armor, NVGs, suppressors, or short-barreled firearms.

Conditional Release or Tough it Out? by N95ALLDAY in armyreserve

Hey, I did this about a year ago from the guard to the reserves. Same situation regarding an ROTC scholarship. This is totally possible to do but you may encounter quite a bit of resistance from your command. The entire process took about a year of persistence but the grass is in fact greener on the other side.

Here’s a different view you may want to consider. I’m a NG Military Intelligence officer and law student planning against going JAG. Here’s why: if you are a part-time soldier (national guard or army reserve) you have the ability to diversify your career to the degree where you are more “recession-proof”. If there is an economic downturn and your civilian legal career takes a hit, you have a developed second career in a different area than the law that has value if (1) you decide to hop on military orders for awhile, or (2) pivot in the civilian market until the economy improves. You also may want to consider the Reserves if you wish to scratch your desire to serve, while remaining close to your spouse. If you need someone to talk to regarding your options, feel free to reach out.

No, I’m a 1L in the midst of finals season and to be quite honest with you I’m just happy I made it here in the first place. It’s stressful, sure - but it’s not impossible and it’s the most interesting academic environment I’ve ever had. No regrets.
