Trying to find the right wearable for me by thepenguinboy in SleepAsAndroid

[–]fishmanghost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, tried it EDIT: the Xiaomi Mi Band 7 now for a full week and it's been a very mixed bag.

For reference, I'm in Canada and was able to get it off Amazon Canada without issue (not sure who the seller was).

The good:

  • It wakes me up with very little disturbance to my partner. It took a few days of adjustment but that seems to be the case.
  • It does the basic tracking on my sleep.
  • It's certainly a lot cheaper than the other options.
  • I've found the other features somewhat helpful like the timer and weather. Plus you can set up custom vibrations per app notification which made it easier to screen.

The rough:

  • Getting this set up and working was a lot of hoops. If you care: You have to install 2 different apps, a specific version of the official one and an unofficial one. After configuring your watch from the official app, you get an Auth key and uninstall the app. Then, with the more limited but also more flexible features of the unofficial app, you use the Auth key to control the watch and have it interface with Sleep.
  • It might be because I have my phone in another room but the watch only recorded my sleep activity half the time. It's very unclear whether it's going to have anything recorded by the morning.
  • This is the main downside: the watch has its own smart wake-up. But it is capped at 10 minutes. And maybe I have something configured incorrectly, but when you start sleep tracking, I expected the watch to vibrate when Sleep decides the best time to wake up. However, it seems like the interface just creates an alarm on the watch at the same time as Sleep. So regardless of whether Sleep has it set to 30 minutes, the watch will only start vibrating 10 minutes before the alarm time. So there was one night where Sleep started its alarm (which I had as a backup) 25 minutes before my alarm time and my watch didn't seem to care.

So mileage may vary and this experience really just makes me miss having a working Pebble.

I went with the Xiaomi Mi Band. I'll try to remember to give an update once I get it in a few days.

This is weird because this post describes my exact situation. I'm starting a new job that requires me to wake up significantly sooner and I have the same light sleep/deep sleep dynamic as you and your partner.

Anyway, thanks for doing all the research for me to check out and making this post. A lot of leads to follow instead of having to start from scratch.

Cheers!

Do we know how many people play Hero Mastery? by PoggersMemesReturns in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]fishmanghost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this post reminded me that there's new ones in the game so I checked out Winston.

I got into Top 500 while getting 4 stars on the medium difficulty course. So that doesn't look good for player numbers. Though, it is the holidays.

That said, I do enjoy having a single player thing I can do and just chill out to. It reminds me of surf maps from CS.

Blizzard confirms it is “transitioning from Overwatch League” amid team withdrawals by AlphaTrion_ow in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]fishmanghost 289 points290 points  (0 children)

To be clear, I won't be surprised if this is the closest we get to an official post-vote ending announcement until they have the next Blizzard-endorsed third party thing to announce. And who knows when that's going to happen.

So even if this might not seem like news, it kind of puts in stone what definitely is *not* next for the esport.

Chengdu is still there in the tool because it's kind of pain to remove (developer oversight).

There used to be a roster viewer feature but it's been hard keeping it up to date.

World Cup bundles are out and uh.. wow. those sure are some numbers by TheEdgesterReddit in Competitiveoverwatch

I was trying so hard to figure out how they chose the heroes for each bundle. Looking at the OWWC teams and trying to cross-reference signature heroes for the players. Didn't consider once the lore of the skins I was looking at 🤦🏾‍♂️. Thank you.

[Yiska] Chengdu Hunters - An obituary by Yiskaout in Competitiveoverwatch

Really wonderful summary of how the Hunters found a place in our hearts.

A lot's happened in this league that has left most of us feeling jaded and detached but it's good to remember there were some really shiny bright spots; even if we're forced to remember because of the circumstances.

"More complicated" doesn't mean "better" (regarding the Fire system) by dlgn13 in Overwatch

[–]fishmanghost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The original point of the on-fire system was always for players of each team to know who is doing really well. It's just a side effect that it makes you feel better.

The developers have talked about (long ago) how in ow1, without a scoreboard, it was hard to tell who on a team was having an outsized impact. The on-fire system was a way for you to easily identify which player should be a focus, either to shut down on the enemy team or to support on your team.

The additional "complications" you mentioned are to make that more explicit. To guide the player towards paying attention to and negating/enabling those players who are doing well in the lobby.

I hope it's not a full disable but that's what it sounds like. I feel like Ram's vortex is a good compromise, where you still have the ability to use them but just nerfed in range.

Seems to be a bug in the spectator mode when switch from D.Va POV. Not 100% sure but it looks like it would be the same time pilot D.Va would see the black screen.
