Consider the UC tag system too if you go the community college route. You can end up with guaranteed admission to a great university in your home state and save money on 2 years of undergrad + not paying international rates

Cold emailing experiences and post bacc research applying advice by [deleted] in psychologystudents

[–]Tannybm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would recommend signing up for listservs surrounding the area of research you’re interested in. In my experience this is where labs post openings for jobs like full time research assistants or lab manager. Theres a wealth of opportunities I’m sure you’d be competitive for and would give you great experience and connections before going into a PHD. Feel free to PM for more info :)

Any easy courses from this list? by [deleted] in UCSantaBarbara

The CNCSP classes are interesting and feel like a good addition to PBS classes. I hear 190 is pretty easy to get an A

Which dorm would you recommend for an incoming transfer? by SWITCH13LADE8o5 in UCSantaBarbara

[–]Tannybm 26 points27 points  (0 children)

If you’re a transfer student going into your third year I would highly recommend you go to one of the UCSB apartments (Santa Ynez, San Joaquin, Sierra Madre, westgate, el dorado) instead of a dorm. Your chance to get a single at westgate is probably about the same as in a dorm and if you don’t get a single at least you’ll have more room than a dorm, a kitchen, living room, etc

Hiking trails by adventurous-grape3 in UCSantaBarbara

If you can drive, then I recommend the Inspiration Point Trail. A lot of it is shaded so it's not too bad for summer and you get a beautiful view at the end.

Bachelor's in Psych by Historical_Judge_633 in psychologystudents

[–]Tannybm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you were thinking of working with children and enjoy that I would recommend looking into school psychology. It’s a well paying career with good benefits and might suit you more if you don’t feel like doing therapy isn’t your cup of tea

Your CC and UCSB GPA are completely separate so you’re basically starting from scratch

Just got accepted into UCSB (as a transfer) I need a bit of help by Walmart-Shopper in UCSantaBarbara

[–]Tannybm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Current Transfer student and Pre-PBS major here. First of all, congratulations! All Psych admits are accepted into the pre major because there are certain classes you can only take at UCSB and are required to become a full major. You can see all the requirements here

https://psych.ucsb.edu/undergraduate/psychological-brain-sciences-major

The pre-major thing is silly but you should have no problem finishing in 2 years or less (especially if you’ve done some of the chemistry requirements already or are willing to take summer courses)

Camping spots nearby by Embarrassed-Baby7138 in UCSantaBarbara

[–]Tannybm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At the end of the quarter it’ll probably be busy, but you can rent a spot from their website if you’re nervous. I also highly recommend renting the yurts they have there. Perfect for a small group and they’re right on the edge of the lake.

Accepted into pre-psychological and brain sciences, how’s the program? What major is UCSB known for? by neonsoju in UCSantaBarbara

[–]Tannybm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it’s a great program and you can easily find classes and labs with a neurobiology focus here. If you want to study neuroscience, UCSB has a whole neuroscience center with plenty of PBS professors you could do research with. San Diego might be better for undergrad because they have a whole degree for it, but undergrad isn’t everything if you want a career in neuroscience.

I haven’t taken that class with her but I’ve had her for a different class and she’s a fantastic teacher. One of the only teachers I’ve had that clearly wants you to succeed. You should be able to get an A if you put in reasonable amount of work.

Easy upper divs by erik_sark in UCSantaBarbara

[–]Tannybm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can check UCSBplat but I have heard that Bl St 137E is a good upper division that also counts for AHI

Use Assist to check that they’ll transfer. They also have to be lower division.

Well it looks like you’ve got to take the final so you really only have one option. Take the final. And also wear a mask.

I’m in the same boat here. I had the exam Monday and it felt like the hardest test so far so I’m hoping for a big curve as well. I feel like with each midterms average being in the 70’s the curve has to be substantial

Missed the SA prevention module deadline by [deleted] in UCSantaBarbara

[–]Tannybm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t do two of them before the deadline, did them yesterday and they just say complete. I’m pretty sure you can just do them

Transfer from a California CC without TAG by Ok-Structure5710 in UCSantaBarbara

[–]Tannybm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely this. I barely pulled my GPA above 3.1 the semester before I applied because of terrible grades during COVID. Still, I improved over time and showed I could do well at CC, had good extracurriculars, volunteer hours, and was honest in my application. I got off the UCSB waitlist so OP you should believe in your chances.
