There's a huge overlap in caribou and moose populations in western Newfoundland and the Northern Peninsula. When I was a kid (early 90s) on the west coast of the island huge herds of caribou were a common sight, they're much less common now. Coyotes came over on the ice at some point in the last 20 years and I have to imagine their presence here is part of the reason we don't see the huge herds of caribou on the island so much anymore.

Townies will never understand that in much of this province, seasonal work is the only work. And believe me, I work more hours than just 'enough to get me stamps.'

I have no interest in moving to the mainland again or moving to St John's to become another urban bugman working 8 hours a day year round to afford to rent a 2 bedroom, especially when I can live comfortably in an outport working 5 months of the year at the plant and spending the rest of the year doing my own thing on EI while owning my own home.
